“Great Hotel in top location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

This centrally located hotel in Kitzbuhel has a variety of rooms, some have balconies but tend to be older and the bathrooms are in need of an upgrade. Other rooms have been refurbished in a contemporary style and are delightful, however these modernised rooms tend not to have a balcony. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food was outstanding. i have never seen such a varied salad buffet table - with at least 30 different items to choose from every night. Breakfasts were equally as good. Nothing was too much trouble for the dedicated team of staff and after all it is the staff that make this place a hotel.

Room Tip: If you want a room with a balcony request a room on the second floor. If you want contemporary and s...

This was our second visit to the Schwarzer Adler during the past year, such was our positive first experience at this hotel. All the staff are very friendly and helpful from the reception, dining room to the cleaning staff. Towels and bedlinen were refreshed daily, and the en suite bedroom was kept very clean.
The choice of fresh fruit, cheeses, cold meats and ‘home cooked’ breads at breakfast would be very difficult to improve upon. The 5 course evening meal was of a high standard and included a salad bar.- We could have managed with fewer courses, and a variation of the salad bar each day would make evening meals more interesting during a long visit.
We have stayed at many 4 star hotels in Switzerland and Austria, and this hotel ranks amongst the best of them. The spa facilities were very good, the hotel having a large heated indoor pool on the lower ground floor, and a large outside pool on the roof which is maintained at a lower temperature.
A good daily packed lunch was willingly supplied if requested. Otherwise the location of the hotel is perfect being just beyond the town’s pedestrian area. Many local buses stopped immediately to the rear of the hotel, and the nearest train station and gondola were only 7-10 minutes walk from the hotel.
If you sleep liking to leave your windows open at night there can be a problem with early morning noise from delivery lorries delivering to the hotel and to a nearby shop.
Kitzbuhel itself has much character and the ‘summer card’ we purchased allowed the use of 29 gondolas etc., plus local buses throughout the area. This card was good value, although it was quite difficult to reach many gondolas owing to the postbuses running infrequently and sometimes not easily connecting with other postbuses in the area which were required to reach many of the gondolas. Quiet villages in the area such as Ellmau, Kirkberg, Westendorf, and Soll are well worth visiting as part of a walking holiday.

If you like to laze by a swimming pool, this hotel had a very good one on top of it. It would appeal to people who like to sunbathe and dip without too much exercise. The staff were very good and friendly and the rooms were very good. If you have a room at the front of the hotel, there is no balcony like the ones at the side and you do get the noise of the traffic and revellers in the night but this is more than made up by the view from the window. The food is excellent and is prepared by a gourmet chef. It is about 5mins walk to the shops and from where you pick up the coaches for the day trips. The only thing I didn't like was I thought the lounge area was quite dark and made reading difficult.

Room Tip: If you want a good view, rooms at the front of the hotel are the best but there are no balconies and...

We travelled from Vienna to stay at this hotel. This hotel met all expectations. We paid extra to stay in a larger room and we were not disappointed. There was a bowl of fruit in the room when we arrived. (Only disappointment was - no kettle, but we bring our own anyway). The duvets and pillows were so soft and the bed very comfortable. No complaints!

We were on half board and the meals were out of this world and we never went hungry. the choice for breakfast was unbelievable, everything imaginable, and all so fresh.

We used the spa pool and Jacuzzi quite a few times, which was lovely and warm and comfortable and after a swim you can sit and have a complimentary cup of tea.

All of the staff were fantastic. We only managed to get a few names, Merle, Attila, Sophie and Patrick but even though we didn't get others we would like to thank ALL of the staff for a wonderful 11 nights stay at the hotel. They were ALL so very friendly and helpful. We would certainly recommend this hotel and Kitzbuhel itself to anyone for a perfect stay.

We didn't have the best of weather, as we had hoped in Austria, (lots of rain) but we weren't affected by the floods in Kitzbuhel that had affected other parts of Austria and indeed across the border in Germany.

If we went out (which was walking every day) we could have a packed lunch if needed. We asked for one each the first time but after that if we needed one we had one between us, as it was too much after the good breakfast.

The walks around the area are perfect; although we are not seasoned hikers, we thoroughly enjoyed walking up the mountains or walking to Lake Schwarzee, only 30 minutes away. Taking the train into other towns and walking their trails we found, all over the place, yellow signs showing you the way and letting you know approximately how long he walks will take, which is very reassuring.

Kitzbuhel is a perfect place to stay as it has the railway circling the town, which we used quite a few times. The trains are on time to the second and are so comfortable and clean.

They have open air concerts in the town and we were lucky enough to see a Brass Band play in the square one Friday night. It was FANTASTIC.

If we ever go back to Austria, Kitzbuhel, and the Schwarzer Adler Hotel, is the place we would go and we would highly recommend the area and this hotel to anyone.

The swimming pool situated on the roof makes this hotel an amazing place to be in during summertime; excellent panorama over the city and surrounding area. Free parking, free internet and 1 free massage session per week are very welcome extras. The food is fantastic as well. Hotel's personnel is very friendly. Location - very close to city centre. To conclude: a recommendable destination!

We stayed at the Schwarzer Adler Spa hotel in Kitzbuhel in May 2013 and what a fantastic stay we had.

Where to start?... the hotel receptionists couldn't of be more helpful and accommodating throughout our whole stay. From advising us how to get the most out of our trip, where to go, how to get there - nothing was ever too much trouble and all info. was always delivered with a smile. Our room was simply awesome - contemporary in style with traditional Austrian influences weaved in.

The room had all of the mod cons, and best of all, a fantastic view looking up towards The Hahnenkamm. The room was also exceptionally clean and had a fantastic sofa by the window maximising the view of the mountains opposite. After a day walking in the awe inspiring mountains of the Kitzbuhel region and some time relaxing in the spa, the room offered us the perfect sanctuary to relax and reflect on the days events.

The Spa itself is one of the best we have ever stayed at. The Spa area itself is a work of art, sensitively designed to maximise your time of relaxation from the moment you enter. Whether it be swimming in the heated indoor pool, chilling out in the jacuzzi, relaxing in the sauna, bio-sauna and steam room or simply having a complimentary cup of tea while reading a book - the experience of the spa will leave you feeling refreshed and relaxed and ready for another day out in the mountains.

[Our highlight - the rooftop pool and sunbathing area]:
And then there's the rooftop pool and sunbathing area... WOW! Words simply won't do this justice! The roof top offers 360 degree panoramic views of the Kitzbuhel region which are just mind blowing! We had seen photos before arriving but you will still be blown away by the views! If you want to simply switch off for the day I can think of no better place to do so - you really won't be disappointed. There are plenty of sun beds on the roof, free towels and an area in which there are sofas and chairs to chill in - incredible!

The only final thing I wanted to mention is the food. We opted for half board option and were not left disappointed. In the evening we ate at the in-house a la carte gourmet restaurant "Neuwirt" which has been awarded with 2 toques Gault Millau and 1 Michellin Star and quite rightly deserves to be known as one of the best restaurants in Tyrol. The presentation, the textures, the taste - all a complete work of art! The service was personal, friendly and extremely attentive to every dietary requirement and this was all served up in a charming, relaxed setting. You really do have to eat here - a truly amazing experience!

The last thing to say is that all of the hotel staff we met were simply wonderful, and I really mean that. Friendly and relaxed, personable, approachable, attentive - you will always be greeted with a warm smile. In short, I would recommend this hotel to anybody.

Thank you to everybody at the Schwarzer Adler for making this holiday a wonderful experience for us!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that looks up towards The Hahnenkamm.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Schwarzer Adler earlier in March. Our standard double room was very good size and nicely decorated. We did not have the best view the hotel can offer, but frankly we did not care as we got the best view from the top of the Hahnenkamm ! The bathroom was also very good size with large shower box and bath ( useful when you have to rinse your ski gear !). We booked half board and were not disappointed by the food, that was varied and top good quality. Wine list bit limited, but we spot a couple of good bottles. Breakfast was fantastic with plenty of choice from hot and cold buffet, plenty of fresh healthy option and lovely freshly baked bread, they even serve good Cappuccino ( always tricky !)
We were not sure about the evening entertainment with the 'Italian piano bar' ( it finishes at 11 pm and not 2 am as I read in other review) , but majority of guests seemed to enjoy that and it attracted also non resident, nevertheless it was good to be in a lively venue and we enjoyed spending a couple of nights at the hotel bar. The Spa is definitely one of the reason why to choose this Hotel : wonderful, modern facilities help you to relax after the hard work on the slopes ! Only negative points : I would have enjoyed more luxurious toiletries and towels, both quite cheap. Turn down service is not included in all the rates...so standard room do not get : it would have been nice to be informed beforehand about this and not finding out after check-in.
Overall we would definitely recommend this Hotel a probably come back soon ! `For me one of the best option in Kitz !

Room Tip: Make sure your room is in the refurbished part of the Hotel
