We pre booked two nights at what we understood to be a 4 star hotel. We had booked a standard room but what we were given was a total shock, it was certainly not what we had expected or booked. The room was very small, sparsely furnished and drab. With two suitcases there was no room to move. How it could be regarded as 4 star is a total mystery. Reception were approached for a change of room, but the request was treated with disdain.

In most 4 star hotels in which we have stayed small toiletries are provided in the bathroom as well as tea/coffee making facilities. Not at the Central Hotel. Neither was soap provided for either the hand basin or shower, nor any hot water in the bathroom on the evening we arrived, or the following morning. After a complaint to reception hot water was available the following evening. We can live without complimentary toiletries, shampoo, gel, etc , but if nothing else basic hygiene demands that some type of soap is provided and hot water.

On our experience this hotel rates two star tourist. There are many other hotels in Innsbruck and options for a better standard of accomodation, and certainly better value than the Central Hotel.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel, which had a lot of character, especially the breakfast area. Breakfast was superb with great coffee. The hotel was in a great location, handy to the city centre with plenty to see within walking distance.

Our room was very spacious and clean; however, the decor made the room appear very gloomy, and our room did not have much of a view. There was no air-conditioning, which would have been welcomed as it was very hot. There was construction noise, but fortunately, we were out most of the days.

Taking into account the price & the 4-star rating, our expectations were a little higher than what the hotel actually offered.

The hotel itself is quite nice and was recently renovated. However there is a serious noise problem due to a huge construction site across the street from the hotel. The work started every morning at 6 AM and continued until around 6 PM. This included heavy machinery and demolition of existing buildings. To make matters worse, we had to keep the window open as there was no air conditioning and it was fairly hot. (We were here in mid May) This non-stop noise (including Sunday) made our stay VERY unpleasant. During the winter months, I would not see this as a problem.

I would not stay there again, at least as long as the construction is going on. At the very least I would recommend to make sure to book a room that does not face towards the construction site. While this is temporary, ask the hotel about the situation.

Good-sized rooms, very clean, friendly staff, close to but not in the tourist area. Convenient to transportation and Innsbruck is in a spectacular setting!
