“Gorgeous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

Small but so much to offer. Charming old buildings, a huge variety of cafes and restaurants and whereever you go you get a glimpse of the surrounding mountains

“Very lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

Historical Innsbruck is so lovely. I really adore it. These authentic streets and all those monuments are wonderful. The Golden Roof is worldfamous but there is so much more to see and everything is in walking distance. Go there and fall in love with it ;-)

“lovely short trip city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

Innsbruck is the perfect short stay getaway. We spent four days here and found it perfect. Yes there would be more things to do depending on weather (ie. skiing in winter) but we felt we had a good mix of city and mountain activities. We took a hotel package from Innsbruck tourism which included 48hr Innsbruck Card. This was the best value deal as it covered public transport in the city, cablecar rides, alpinezoo entrance and museum entrace such as Swarovski World.

“Tourists have been here for too long a time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

The old town is obviously designed for a rush of tourists all the time. People in the streets were not inhabitants, as long as they didn't work to serve guests. I prefer places with more originality.

“" A WALK THROUGH HISTORY & TIME "”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

Innsbruck's Old Town is quite beautiful. Like many European Alt Town Sections. It is well kept and very clean. There are beautiful frescoes on many of the old buildings throughout the town. There are beautiful brightly painted churches and buildings in Pink, Blue, Green, Orange and other colors as well. I don't recall ever seeing any Bright Pink Churches anywhere else. You can either take a leisurely walk through Maria Theresien Strasse or ou can take a horse drawn carriage. There are more than enough great eating places and sidewalk cafes. More likely than not you will come accross a woman painted from head to toe in silver and wearing all silver clothing, standing up on a pedestal with her dog at her feet dressed up and sleeping in a basket. She stands there, ever so still as if frozen in time like a statue and holding a solitary silver rose in her hand. Place a Euro or so in her offering basket and watch her come to life. I have seen many human statues over the years but she is the most realistic of them all. At the end where the Strasse turns left you will come across the Golden Roof where emperors sat in mideval times on its balcony overlooking the square. The Golden Roof was built in 1500. It was decorated with 2657 fire-gilded copper tiles for Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor. The reliefs on the balcony show coats of arms, symbols and other figures in his life. From this privileged vantage point they were entertained by the peasants below whose only goal was to please their Emperor so they would receive a small token of gratitude for their performance. There are many (small) side streets or as the locals refer to them passageways. Don't be afraid to explore this old town and shop in its quaint shops. Try to take the tourist out of your tourism and you will surely find a rich history here!
