“Fantastic hotel great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

Amazing hotel in great location. It is situated on the main shopping street a few doors down from Mozart's birthplace. Staff so friendly and when we arrived the airline had delayed our baggage, and the reception staff gave us emergency toiletries which was so kind.
Our room was really clean and well decorated.
Would recommend to anyone.

We spent one night at the Art Hotel Blaue Gans on our way to Croatia. The hotel is designed beautifully and located in the perfect spot to explore Salzburg. Our room was large and furnished in a contemporary fashion with old barn wood. Very nice in keeping the the modern/old theme.

In the morning, we enjoyed a nice breakfast in the restaurant.

My only complaint is the parking situation. We arrived at night and drove by the hotel four times (not an easy task with the way the one way streets are set up) before we understood that you had to actually BACK into their loading and unloading temporary parking spot. Once we checked in and were settled, we had to go move our car to long term parking. We asked the hotel clerk how to do this and were told we had to "park in the mountain" and were handed a map showing how to do this. After a couple of attempts (again the one way streets), we finally found the entrance to parking in the "mountain" and then tried to find our way out again. We probably spent two hours figuring out parking - a complete waste of time when we could have been enjoying the city.

For the prices they charge, I would have expected a doorman/valet parking attendent to sort these things out - especially at night.

dear tim
i am glad you enjoyed our rooms and our breakfast.
i am sorry about the fact you wasted time while searching for a parking space.
unfortunatly i cant do anything against our oneways in town.
our tipp:
if you get here by car please put in "herbert von karajanplatz" in your GPS- as mentioned on our homepage, so you will arrive at one entrance of our hotel.
best regards

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and it was the perfect location for our trip. We only had 1 full day to sightsee and this was the perfect starting point in Salzberg. There is off-site parking (actually inside the large mountain) very close to the hotel. My recommendation would be to call or email the hotel ahead of time to find out how to get to the parking garage. It took us about 30 -40 minutes of frustratingly driving around trying to find parking. If you do not call ahead just find a parking spot outside of the city walls, walk to the hotel, and they can then direct you. This is what we ended up doing. Be sure to go to breakfast hungry as there is a very large selection of cheeses, meats, eggs, breads, and assorted juices...it was fansatic! There was so much food that we even skipped lunch we were so full! There is a wine bar downstairs, however, it was closed during our visit. The location is great for starting the walking tour, walking into the new town, close to restaurants and bars! We stayed in a recently renovated room close to the upstairs lounge where tea and cookies were served all day. This was a fantastic stay and we would definitely stay here again if we ever return to Salzberg!

Room Tip: There is an elevator therefore if you have a lot of luggage there is no problem with a higher up roo...

the positives:
- the location of the blaue gans is perfect, right in the heart of the city center on the main pedestrian shopping street.
- the hotel's common spaces and guest rooms have a contemporary/minimalist decor. it's a very chic looking property.
- my guestroom was nice -- bathroom was recently updated, shower had terrific water pressure. wi-fi signal was strong, and the there was an in-room safe in the closet. i traveled alone and booked a 'regular' double. this room was perfectly comfortable for 1, but it was pretty small -- i would recommend booking one of their larger double rooms if you're traveling as a couple.
- the front desk staff were always very kind, friendly, and helpful.
- the property is kept very clean and neat.

my minor quibbles
- the air inside my room was extremely stuffy, even in late march/early april when it was freezing outside. there is an individual heating/air con unit in each room, but turning that on did little to circulate the air or help the situation. the single, small window in my room faced the hotel's inner courtyard. noise from the hotel's bar and restaurant went on late into the night, so leaving the window open all night wasn't an option. it made for an uncomfortable night's sleep.
- the service at breakfast was painfully slow. the food was totally delicious, but i'm not sure it was worth the long waits, having to get up and track down wait staff if i wanted to order a refill on my espresso, etc. one morning i waited 50 mins(!) for an order of scrambled eggs -- there were only 3 other tables taken in the restaurant so it's not like they were overwhelmed with customers. it's nice that the food was good, but frustrating having to wait so long for it.
- despite hanging the 'do not disturb' sign on my door handle, housekeeping entered my room twice one afternoon. this should not happen ever, let alone 2 times in the same day.

but overall i would recommend the blaue gans -- the location and the value make up for the small inconveniences mentioned in my review.

Located on the Altstadt's center of activity, Getreidestrasse, a visitor is ideally positioned to explore Salzburg. A short and cheap bus ride from the airport or train station, it is a beautiful, contemporary hotel. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. The included breakfast is staffed, serving the hot drinks you request and omelets. The customary breakfast foods served in Austria and Germany are here, with an especially good variety of breads. Our room was clean and well-appointed; the bath was a highlight. Find the wine cellar and the library; the latter has tea available in the afternoon. The wifi is fast and reliable. We were very comfortable here and this hotel enhanced our visit to this wonderful city. We will stay here again on our next visit.

This arty quirky hotel is great fun. We stayed in the Maison Room - fabulous but difficult to find in this 660-year old building. No one offered to show us the room, just sort of pointed us in the direction. It was a difficult room to find, down narrow corridors, and small steps up to the room - lugging our suitcases. But once we found the room, it was 1,500 sq feet - had a small cooktop, cooking utensils, rooms on multiple floors, large living room, bathroom, 2 bedrooms (one bedroom with fold-out couch. GREAT Breakfast included, discount on nearby parking, poor WiFi but there is a computer near the front desk for guest use. Not a whole lot to do in Salzburg, but some nice walking around.

Great location on Getreidegasse close to many highlights in the Altstadt.
Friendly and helpful staff on the desk and at breakfast.
Tasteful decoration and some homely touches.
Our suite was unique, and in an older section of the building, revealing some of its long and interesting history - though perhaps the stairs would be challenging for older guests.
Altogether a very enjoyable stay in a unique property.
