“Perfect Salzburg stop”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2010

We were in Salzburg for 3 nights during a 17 day holiday in Bavaria and Austria and this was the perfect choice for this stop. It also coincided with my son's first birthday and they made us feel very welcome. Apologies to the other guests who were very gracious while he excited opened cards and presents during breakfast.

One thing to note, the Sat Nav made our arrival very interesting, taking us along the road a very interesting way. It is worth putting Moostrasse in first, then once in the area, change to the hotel address.

The hotel is about as quaint and authentic Austrian as you could get, but note there is no lift so rooms on the second floor shold be avoided for the hard of walking.

While in the city my parents did the Sound of Music Tour which the rest of us had already done. We instead did the Hop On Hop Off tour which visits most of the same locations that are in the city for 6 euros less.

Wealso went to the Eagles Nest which is worth a trip but don't expect a historical attraction, it is more a restaurant at the top of a mountain with historical significance and consequently, more protected.

The first night was a Sunday so the restaurant was closed, so we were pointed to the restaurant at the end of the road which was very good. On the 3rd night (Tuesday) we decided to go to the same place but that was then closed. So we tried the restaurant and, although they were incredibly busy, they found room for the 7 of us. And we are so glad they did. Food was fantastic!

Just remember to buy your diesel fuel in Austria as it's 20% cheaper than Germany, across the border.

We originally had a large chain hotel booked for a weekend in Salzburg with our kids, but based on the Trip Advisor reviews (which are usually highly reliable), I switched it to the Bloberger Hof. Excellent decision. We booked a suite on the top floor and had 3 seperate sleeping areas for ourselves and 2 kids. Hotel is very traditional, with lots of pine furnishings, etc. The room was excellent, staff very friendly and the restaurant is really superb (even more so given the prices charged). We ate both nights in the hotel and both nights the food was great (and the place was full)...they also make an effort for kids with a nice selection of food for them (which is not a regular compliment I give in Europe).

The hotel is not that close to the center of the city but as we rented a car, we didnt really notice the distance, and it is definitely an easy bus ride into town. (Parking is not that hard to find in Salzburg by the way...but it IS expensive!!!) We would recommended to get a car and explore outside the city too, e.g. the salt mines, Schloss Helbrunn with its water fountains, etc.

We will certainly be back. Cannot recommend this place highly enough!!

Our stay at the Bloberger Hof was truly delightful. When I made the reservation, the hotel only had superior rooms available. Unbeknownst to me, that meant that our room had a balcony that we could sit out on with a lovely view of the Alps. That added treat was worth the few Euro more that we had to pay.
The hotel is located in the outskirts of Vienna, in a small village of a little road, but has convenient bus transportation in and out of the city. The ride was never more than 20 minutes. It was certainly worth leaving the car in the hotel parking lot, which seemed extremely safe since the only people with access to the car would have been the customers at the hotel.
The room was large with a sitting area and table for relaxation, as well as the balcony outside.
The bathroom was large, with a large shower and included a hair dryer.
The hotel was completely non-smoking, one of the few who claimed such and actually held true to that feature.
The high speed internet was easily accessible and included in the price.
The proprietors were extremely attentive. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious.
Evening meals were available for purchase, and we were able to eat a scrumptious dinner outside on the patio at an extremely reasonable cost.
If you stay here, I would definitely recommend planning on enjoying your dinner on the premises. The food was much tastier, at far less cost, than eating in Salzburg.
We found ourselves short on clean clothes and were able to pay for a load of wash which came back to us neatly folded.
You're going to love this place!

We go to Europe twice per year. Had been to Salzburg before, but decided to stay in smaller family run hotel. Could not have been better. Bloberger is totally a family operation, and they take great pride in meeting your every need. Very good English spoken. Help with reservations and suggestions of places to see and eat. Be sure and get the rooms away from the road as there is no AC and windows will be open at night. We were there a week and hated to leave. The restaurant was the best food in Salzburg. The spare ribs (not on the menu--ask for them) are the best I have ever had, and believe me, I have had some ribs. The breakfast bar was fantastic with omeletts offered in addition. Room large and very clean. Bus stop in 100 yards away and is the easy way into and out of Salzburg where parking is hard to find and expensive. As much as I enjoyed Salzburg, the hotel was one of the real highlights. One day, we just stayed at the hotel , walked around the area, read, enjoyed the scenery and had a wonderful day.

We stayed at the Bloberger Hof in late January 2010, and it both agree it was one of our favourites places to stay during our three month winter trip through Europe. While the hotel is a good 10 mins away from the Old Town of Salzburg, it was nice to wake up to views of snowcapped mountains, neighbours riding heir horses down the road, and a delicious breakfast.

The owners both speak perfect English, and serve up wonderful home cooked meals in the beatiful timber dining room. Even though there are many nice places to east in Salzburg, we were sp impressed with our dinner the first night that we hurried back to the hotel the second night in anticipation of another great meal. Can't wait to head back to Salzburg and soak up the wonderful Austrian hospitality again.

Free wifi and parking were also a plus.

Stayed at the bloberger hof for 4 nights. This B&B is very traditional with nice surroundings. The room was ok, looked like a typical hotel room, not like an austrian cabin like I was expecting. The hallways etc are kept to look like to traditional austrian log cabin which are well kept. Staff were very nice, breakfast was fine, usual selection of pastries, cereal or breads. The bloberger is very quiet, it felt like a very reserved hotel and you do not hear any noise at all, maybe not suitable for a young couple more for an older one.
The location is quite far from the centre of Salzburg, there is 1 bus which runs to the main street near the bloberger hof. You could not walk to the centre, the bus takes around 20-25 mins, maybe not good if you want some nightlife as the last bus leaves the centre at around 11.15pm.
Overall would probably not recommend this hotel to a young couple (Like us) as its too far from the centre and has an extremely quiet feel about it. If you want a quiet break then this is the B&B for you.
