Quite a strange one! It is about 10 minutes from the train station in a quiet area. In my room there were 10 beds (5 bunks) and the room was very small. The shortage of space made it difficult to inhabit. Most odd was the fact that cold showers were free...whooppee! However, if you wanted warm water you had to pay 50 Euro cents for 6 minutes. You best get out before the clock counts down, as the cold water will come as warned. I have never stayed at a place with a meter for warm water.
I actually resented having to pay for it, as the cost of the hostel is not cheap. Anyway, the bar is really relaxing and there was a nice mix of people. I would probably advise you to find a better hostel in Salzburg, as there are no doubt alternatives. I stayed here in August 2002.

Cheap and close to the train station, but you get what you pay for. We got a room to ourselves (we were travelling in a group of 6) but the shower situation was awful. You have to pay 50 cents for 6 minutes--then the water turns ice cold! I had to run out mid-shower to feed the thing for another 6 minutes. The bathrooms were definitely on the smelly side as well.If you really like hostels, you might still enjoy it--there were lots of backpackers and young people to talk to.I wouldn't say it was terrible, but it was definitely on the "would not stay again list." We loved Salzburg...next time we'll pay a little more for a decent hotel there.
