“Cool veranda by the river / OK WiFi /”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

Nicely placed on the river shore with a super cool veranda that allows you to hang in style in front of the hotel. If you are planning to walk into the center you need a good 15 minutes as there is not easy public transportation from there to the center. If you have a bike though you are right on the bike path in to the center.

WiFi OK

Breakfast was mediocre with bland coffee and not much of a selection of protein foods. But having breakfast outside on the veranda was a treat.

There is a good and quick warm sandwich available as a light lunch from the bar but not much else.

If you are arriving by train and like to avoid taxis if you can, then this hotel is perfectly located. It's an easy walk (flat and straight) from the main station to the hotel and the staff will give you email instructions if you ask. Once there, the rooms are generous, modern, quiet and spotless with good bathrooms. I was lucky and got a river view - a perfect Austrian view of river, mountain and pretty church. It's very well priced for Salzburg and the breakfast is cold but good, with fresh fruit and great bread. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk into the old city but the walk itself is a pleasant and easy stroll along the river bank -- so you can watch all the dogs playing in the river :)
The staff are terrifically helpful so you can ask about restaurants, tours and train times. I plan to use this chain in Germany next year and wish I'd known about them this year. Highly recommended if you want value for money. Just a quick note: there is no phone in the room. I didn't need a wake up call and not sure how they would arrange this if needed. So ask first if this is an issue for you. Also, there's no tourist tax at the end of the stay so you won't get that little surprise as you do in some places. Not such a nice surprise if you've managed to get rid of all the local currency! Overall - a great choice.

This Motel One location is located less than 5 mins from the Mirabell Palace and Gardens. It is about 10-15 mins walk to Old Town and the historic buildings there. The hotel is very clean modern. The lobby has lots of seating to have a snack or drink. Everyone has been very courteous and helpful during our stay. The beds seem new but are a bit more firm than I normally like. Overall, good value for your money and close enough to Old Town to make it easy to see all the main sights.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the side facing the river (West side) for the best views.

The pictures are exactly what you get. Prices are awesome, staff super pleasant and very helpful, good breakfast and great local. We also had a beautiful view of the beautiful city. Very pleased with our experience. Keep in mind that is a efficiency so its nothing extravagant-- just what you need for a quick trip.

We chose this hotel because it was a 5 minute walk from the train station, 10 minute walk from the Old Town and 10 minute walk to the starting place for our Fraulein Maria's Bike Tour. Similarly located hotels were significantly more expensive, and this hotel is an excellent value for the money with clean, quiet, modern rooms. Wifi was free and the €7.50 breakfast was a reasonable price for the breads, cereals, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee, hot chocolate buffet. We liked the riverfront location because strolling Salzburg in the evening along the river is a pleasure. The front desk clerk (Patrick) helped us book our train tickets from Salzburg to Vienna and insured that we got the most economical and expeditious ticket for our party of 4. The staff was courteous and helpful without exception. We would definitely stay there again.

Great price & location, excellent staff.
Professional treatement with a smile.
But small room & limited facilities and breakfast.
Great for business trip but not for luxury or romantic one.
I really recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Salzburg city.

Room Tip: Room facing the river

The main reason we stayed at this hotel was the price. Salzburg hotels in general are on the expensive side, especially in the old town area. We wanted an economical, clean place to stay that was within walking distance to the old town. It’s a fairly new building with a modern design located right by the river bank. It has a nice patio setup with modern furnishings by the river, making for a relaxing atmosphere. The old town is a pleasant 20 minute walk along the river with nice scenery. There aren’t many restaurants in the area but again the old town has plenty to choose from. An added bonus is that it’s a 10-15 walk from the train station.

The front desk personnel are young and personable and eager to help with questions and concerns. We asked for room facing the river but none were available. The other side faces a large apartment building. The room was small compared to other hotels we’ve stayed in Europe. It’s also minimalistic with no added furnishings, basically a bed, chair and stool with a very small table. Storage space is limited but laid out some what efficiently. There’s a small wall mounted flat screen TV but no alarm clock or phone in the room. The bathroom is modern and functional with a large shower area. The air conditioning was great, the bed comfortable and we experienced no noise issues. The hotel offers free WIFI. The primary point is that the rooms were clean and fresh looking and adequate for our one night stay.

The breakfast was served just off the front lobby. The items were limited in variety but well stocked; we paid an extra 7.50 euros each and found the value to be satisfactory.

Overall the Motel One is the perfect option if you’re looking for a budget hotel. What it lacks in some amenities it more than makes up for it in price. We would definitely stay here again.
