“Good Value in Salzburg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

The main reason we stayed at this hotel was the price. Salzburg hotels in general are on the expensive side, especially in the old town area. We wanted an economical, clean place to stay that was within walking distance to the old town. It’s a fairly new building with a modern design located right by the river bank. It has a nice patio setup with modern furnishings by the river, making for a relaxing atmosphere. The old town is a pleasant 20 minute walk along the river with nice scenery. There aren’t many restaurants in the area but again the old town has plenty to choose from. An added bonus is that it’s a 10-15 walk from the train station.

The front desk personnel are young and personable and eager to help with questions and concerns. We asked for room facing the river but none were available. The other side faces a large apartment building. The room was small compared to other hotels we’ve stayed in Europe. It’s also minimalistic with no added furnishings, basically a bed, chair and stool with a very small table. Storage space is limited but laid out some what efficiently. There’s a small wall mounted flat screen TV but no alarm clock or phone in the room. The bathroom is modern and functional with a large shower area. The air conditioning was great, the bed comfortable and we experienced no noise issues. The hotel offers free WIFI. The primary point is that the rooms were clean and fresh looking and adequate for our one night stay.

The breakfast was served just off the front lobby. The items were limited in variety but well stocked; we paid an extra 7.50 euros each and found the value to be satisfactory.

Overall the Motel One is the perfect option if you’re looking for a budget hotel. What it lacks in some amenities it more than makes up for it in price. We would definitely stay here again.

The location of the hotel is good, 5 mins walk to Salzburg HBF and 10 mins to the city center. Room decor was very impressive and modern. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous. Have never seen such good service in Europe in any other hotel. The room had few amenities, but the location by the river, the ambience of the hotel and the exceptionally pleasing staff more than make up for that. The breakfast was good and in the evening the lounge area is perfect for drinks and chats with friends.

Room Tip: Request for river facing rooms

The employees at the front desk are truly the best we encountered on our entire trip through Europe! Each one of them was so helpful and went out of their way to assist us in planning activities, mapping out driving plans (they even went online and printed maps and directions for us), giving us hot water for tea, etc. The rooms are super sparce, but very clean and attractive. The hotel lobby is so pretty, and breakfast was excellent! It is located with just a nice walk to the heart of Salzburg - very easy.

We had a one night stay at this hotel in July 2013. Few remarks:

+ Hotel is quite new. Location is good. Walking to the city centre doesn’t take too long.
+ Clean and modern bathroom
+ Free wifi available in the room and in the lobby area
+ Breakfast was good and tasty. Service at the breakfast restaurant was very friendly
- Room was ok, but not very cozy
- We got upgraded room with balcony. Balcony was unnecessary because it was uncomfortable (not any furnitures, view to the opposite building was not very good)
- There was stale smell when you entered room but it went off when you turned ac on.
- Parking area behind the hotel was too small. When we made our reservation we also asked a parking place for our car. But when we arrived there were no parking space left. We had to park other side of the street (parking was free during the night time).

This place was ok for short accommodation. Salzburg old town was wonderful.

Spent about $70 for a room with a king size bed and huge windows facing the river. The hotel is near to the train station(15 minute walk with luggage) but I wouldn't say the neighborhood was that great. Not dangerous but a little run down. The hotel itself seemed almost brand new. It was impeccably clean and updated. The rooms weren't very large but since we were only there to sleep it was not a big deal. A 10 minute walk to the Mirabel Gardens and 20 minutes to the old town of Salzburg. The only things that marred our stay were that the receptionist checking us in was rather abrupt verging on rude and that we were kicked off the outside porch of the hotel for eating sandwiches we had not bought from the hotel. There were some outdoor couches and chairs located in front of the hotel but clearly not marked as a cafe - just present for hotel guests wanting to sit down. No one else was there, just our 4 kids and us not making a mess or anything but a hotel staff member came outside and told us to leave. Not very nice.

Just a 10 minute walk from the old town, this Motel One is new, crisp and clean, Room and bathroom are small but offer all comforts. Shower is great and we had strong a strong wifi signal in the room. Located on the river there is a nice seting area outside where you can eat breakfast. We would do it again!

Stayed one night, very clean rooms, quiet and very pleasing that our room faces the river. Very close to train station (took the bus because of heavy luggage but is walkable), bus stop is about 5 mins walk. Very friendly staff, gave us tips on what to see given the short time we had. Hotel is very close to mirabell gardens and mirabell palace (a little farther away). Area around the hotel is ideal for walking, biking or running. Noticed in their brochure that this is one of the Motel One hotel chain in Europe and we are absolutely glad we chose this hotel. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: don't know if all the rooms face the river. if not, ask for a room by the river. it is a sooth...
