“Historic and Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

If you are a Sound of Music fan, this is a must see, and even if your not. A little bit of a hike up a beautiful cobble stone road or up a great old stone stairway with wonderful views.

“Be Prepared to Hike up 150 steps!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

We walked and hiked hoping to hear the nuns sing their Divine Office. The church was open but very dark (it was overcast & rainy). For 50 cents, the lights came on the front altar piece for a minute or two so we could shoot some photos. They locked up at 4PM and we left without hearing any singing. Would not do again unless it was a bright day and I knew I could hear singing.

“Another Sound of Music location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

Worth a visit for The Sound of Music connection. You can't go into the convent but you can visit the church and stand at the gates used in the film.

“A Bit Quieter Here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

The convent is located adjacent to the route walkers take up to the Hohensalzburg Castle. If you're willing to walk, it's a decent stop that actually has parts open to the public. Some spots that were used for the SOM movie were plainly recognizable, and the chapel was open. No food or souveniers here-this is a working abbey.

“The views are worth the walk”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

It is interesting that in Salzburg, "Sound of Music" history and Mozart history almost carry the same weight. This is where Maria Von Trapp was a novice. Can't see much of the abbey its self, other than the church. Excellent views of Salzburg on the walk up.
