“Budget hotel well worth considering”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2009

Only stayed for 1 night, but would happily stay longer. It is a budget hotel, but it is a quiet location. The room was small but adequate. Free onsite parking.
The staff are helpful
The hotel is only a short drive to the city centre.
Certainly no complaints.

POSITIVE

Good price for Salzburg.
Very clean room.
Free parking.

NEGATIVE

Paid Internet (3 euro per hour).
Far away from the city (but if you have a car you can reach the centre in 10 mins – there’s also a bus just outside the hotel that will take you to the centre but I don’t know how long it will take or how much it costs).
Very basic / cheap looking room (and tasteless decoration).
Breakfast not included (10 euro per person) – can’t comment on the quality of the breakfast as we didn’t have any.

The room was small but the size was enough for 2 persons with 2 big bags. The bathroom size was ok.

Pros: Value for the money, very clean and tidy, friendly staff.
Cons: Little away from city but well connected by public transport. No inhouse restaurant and the breakfast was average

Hotels in Salzburg were expensive esp those in the city centre, and those within reasonable rates were fully booked out more than 1 month before my arrival. I have heard of the Ibis chain of hotels before, so when I saw that they were offering Euro 50 per night (early bird discount), I pounced at the chance, ignoring the fact that the hotel may not be in the city area.

Travelling to the hotel for the first time using public transport was a little daunting. We knew that Bus 21 stops in front of the hotel but there was no Bus 21 in sight when we alighted from our train at the Hauptbahnhof. There was a bus terminal outside the station, but the bus driver ignored us when we started asking for directions. Fortunately, the officer in the OBB information counter in the station was helpful enough to tell us that we have to take a bus to Zentrum (Mirabell Platz) and change to Bus 21 (direction to Bergheim, alight at Gruner Wald - 15 min ride). Note that the bus frequency drops to 2 buses per hour after 8pm.

Everything was easy after that. Bus 21 is pretty convenient as it stops in front of the Old Town where the main attractions are.

Regarding the hotel, we were very pleased with the cleanliness and state of the rooms. There was air-conditioning and furnishings were generally new. Beds were comfortable and clean. The bathroom was clean and bright with liquid soap and hairdryer provided. The room was considered large and there was ample space to put our luggage, enough powerpoints to charge our camera and handphone batteries. The TV was a bit small with mostly German/Austrian channels, but hey, at least there is BBC News. The staff at the reception were quite friendly and helpful. There's free internet access in the lobby (incl WIFI) too.

Unfortunately, the hotel is not near any restaurants (except McDonalds) so we had to be mindful to have all our meals outside before returning to the hotel. Breakfast is simple but pricey (Eur 9.50 per person).

Overall, we were very satisfied with the hotel. This hotel will suit travellers who are looking for comfort at a decent price but do not mind the 15 min bus ride to the hotel.

  • Liked — Cleanliness and spaciousness of rooms, free WIFI, good value for money
  • Disliked — Distance from city centre, infrequency of public transport after 8pm

..... when you go by car to Salzburg. Just leave the autobahn at Salzburg Nord and you are "home". To continue to the city choose e.g. bus 21 at the entrance of the hotel.

We had a friedly welcome, but were somewhat irritated by the 2 elevators,, talking about different levels, while you are still on the reception level, which is 2 level above the bus stop mentioned before.

The rooms are reliable ibis quality with the new ample shower cabin. Looking out from the window you will see streets or autobahns or trees with Salzburg's center far away or Mc Donalds in the next building.

Hot buffet breakfast with ham & eggs, cheese, cakes, fruits, corn flakes etc. is highly recommendable. Staff can give good ideas for visiting the city or the country around (Salzkammergut) including salt mine city Hallein, Kaiser city Bad Ischl, St. Wolfgang with the famous White Horse Inn, some mountains with to climb up etc.

Hi, once again we stayed in Salzburg for a night and the Ibis chain did us proud. Great service levels and a city that needed more time to explore - we'd happily come back and use the same hotel to base ourselves for a holiday. With the river and Sachar Hotel nearby - and the bikes! the hotel gives you the basics with consumate ease and value.

Thanks!

i was a bit dicy to stay at this hotel for the only reason that hotel is too far.

but i disagree for the simple reason that the city is so small and bus no.21 will solve all the purpose. the bus stop is right outide the hotel and it is the perfect bus to take you to the city centre where one spends most of the time.

the staff was good, room was good, mc donalds is down. the grocery shop is a 5 minute walk down the railway bridge in the neighbourhood but closes at 7.

but be sure that once u r here, there i sno other entertainement. so be sure that you spend the rest of your day in the city and only then come back to hotel.

there is a 23 hour snack counter in hotel, which we did not try so i am not going to give suggestion on that..

overall experience considering the price factor i wuld rate is 10 on 10....
