“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2014

This is a beautiful, traditional hotel in an excellent position by the river, overlooking the old town. The hotel is not part of a large corporate chain and this is reflected in both the very traditional Austrian decor and the very attentive, personal and friendly service. Breakfast was excellent, the Cafe Sacher served beautiful afternoon tea and there was a lovely ambiance in the bar. After staying in so many bland, uniform, corporate hotels it was a real pleasure to stay in a hotel with such individual style and such excellent service.

The sacher hotel salzburg is one of the best I've ever stayed in. The location is magnificent with fantastic views of the city. Every thing is a walking distance away. The restaurant serves delicious players & of course the Sacher torte is unforgettable. The staff & service are outstanding. If you'r heading that way this hotel is a must see. The veranda & outside cafe are really enjoyable.

Room Tip: If you ca afford the front rooms go for it.

We had stayed in the Sacher Hotel Vienna over Christmas and absolutely loved it, so we decided to try out the Salzburg branch as well. The hotel is similarly beautiful as its Vienna counterpart. The house exudes beautiful old-world exterior and interior design. You know immediately that you are in a hotel with a rich, colourful tradition. The view of the river and the old town is wonderful!

Having said that, while we were staying there (end of February 2014) there were renovations going on. We were aware of this, and had explicitly asked for rooms away from the building noise. Unfortunately, we ended up getting rooms exactly where the work was happening, and this could not be changed because there were no acceptable alternative rooms.

At reception/concierge desk, we also got the impression of only being half-welcome. When requesting an upgrade on one of the rooms, the lady said "But you have to pay for the upgrade." Really? Who would have thought!

The staff members who exhibited the best attitude were those at the restaurant and bar. At the bar I asked one of them if he could recommend an Italian/Mediterranean place, because that was what we felt like that evening. He enthusiastically recommended "Pan e Vin." This place turned out to be just weird. Not one guest there, uneasy atmosphere... Needless to say we didn't end up eating there...

Room Tip: Make sure to get a room facing the river. Traffic is quite heavy on the other side, and you'll w...

Dear Guest!
First of all, I would like to thank you very much indeed for staying at Hotel Sacher Salzburg and for your effort to tell us about your visit here on TripAdvisor. It was very nice to welcome you at our hotel as well as that you liked the old-world exterior and interior design and outstanding view to old town of the City of Salzburg. I also will thank you for your feedback regarding the behavior of our restaurant and bar staff members.

On the other hand we are very sorry that we did not meet completely your satisfaction. Please kindly allow me to express my sincerest apology for any inconvenience you have had experienced as well as for noise pollution during your stay. Currently we stand by finale renovations by few of our guest rooms and we really dry to undertake the refurbishment as gentle as possible for our guests. I’m also regret that the welcome was not as professional as it should self evident for a 5* Superior hotel. Please rest assures that I will follow up very carefully on all of your remarks and I will definitely clarify the circumstances to prevent any future occurrence.

Dear Guest, thank you again for staying at our hotel and for taking the time to tell us about your recent stay. We really hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the future and show you here the excellence that Hotel Sacher Salzburg is known for.

Sincerely,

Elfi Kammerhofer

Your backpacking niece will refuse to ever travel with you again. The Grand Tour of Europe you promised your offspring will not get beyond one point on the European map. Your wilderness-loving uncle who always loved to drag you from mountainhut to mountain hut ('Livingstone, I presume?') will strike you from his will. All because you booked Sacher Salzburg once, loved the gorgeous classic surroundings, the service, the lovely cafe, the evening piano play - and never want to stay elsewhere, ever again. Oh, and did we mention the 'heimweh' for Christian, Gerhard, Ms Kass and all other staff members you will no longer want to live without? To top it all off, if you came to celebrate your anniversary, like we did, you will find yourself stooping to anything to find new anniversaries. We have convinced ourselves it is perfectly reasonable to celebrate future parakeet anniversaries in Sacher - fortunately, we have four. Meanwhile, we must draw strength from one minor consolation: truth be told, our own breakfast in bed is a lot better.

Room Tip: Ask, if necessary beg, for the riverside view.

If you like to have a comfortable stay in the middle of Salzburg, this place is for you. Hotel Sacher offers luxurious rooms with very nice interiour, all in walking distance to the Getreidegasse. Food is typical Austrian and quality of food is excellent. The waiters were providing fast and excellent service and were able to tell interesting stories about the history of typical Austrian dishes.

Very family-friendly.

The feeling that from the front desk to the turn down service- cared that we were there, was my first thought about the Sacher. We were upgraded without asking. The room had a warmth, beautiful decor, and charm that is gettting harder to find anywhere. The restaurant food was excellent. The location is literally steps away from the pedestrian bridge into the older part of the city. There was never a wait for the elevator and the wifi worked! Though right on the main road with the windows closed you could not hear any outside sounds. Across the street you could ride a bus to any attraction. We loved our stay.

Room Tip: Ask to be upgraded.

We stayed in the Hotel SAcher for a company event - it probably wouldn't be my choice privately.

- the check in was excellent and the valet parking worked extremely well
- the hotel staff were really efficient at all times as well as friendly
- WLAN worked perfectly in my room, although some colleagues complained about bad reception - I expect this is to do with thick walls in old buildings etc
- my room was huge: the traditional /old fashioned style is not really my taste but I know a lot of people like this. Everything in teh bathroom worked and was very clean
- great breakfast buffet although sometimes the service was little bit slow (we were a big group though)
- location is ideal for visiting the old city

Room Tip: If possible, go for one of the corner rooms as these seem to be much bigger and have more windows
