“worth the cost”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

This hotel is worth the price as the location is close to the main train station (1 km) so is walkable during the day. Taxi at night (some taxi drivers are very arrogant). The hotel is very close to the old town, museums, shopping and some Christmas markets. The hotel staff is uber helpful and friendly, the breakfast included is very good, the rooms are very clean and large and they were veery accommodating with our baby grandchild. One of the best parts was the great internet service. We never had a problem as we usually do EVERYWHERE in Europe! The chocolate, sacher cake and fruit left in the rooms is a nice touch. The rooms are quiet and the view is great. They have some adjoining rooms, but can't guarantee them. This and the hard beds are typical in Europe! There is a lovely view of the river, but is it really worth the extra cost??? I would definitely stay here again! This hotel is up to 5 stars in North American standards.

My wife and I have the privileged to stay 1 night at this wonderful hotel overlooking the old town in sept 2012. It was arranged by our Company. Everything seems to be ok. Understand the history of this building, still using key to open the room, that is still perfectly ok for us. Safe was rather 'tricky' to use, need the reception to assist us to 'unlock' the safe! Aircon was not functioning well, was told the "coolest" adjustable only to 25C. Coming from a hot Asian country, even the weather was cold in Salzburg, we still find the room a bit 'warm', we just need to lower the temperature to probably 23C, but it doesn't work in this hotel.

What is more annoying is next morning breakfast. We were greeted and seated, my wife immediately ordered a hot chocolate from the waitress. After almost 20min, the drinks never served, even my cappuccino ordered later was served. It is still ok for us, so I politely asked the waitress again to remind her of my wife's hot chocolate, instead of offering her apology to us, guess what this was her actual first reply: MAY I KNOW WHAT IS YOUR ROOM NO.???

What??? You think we are couple of thieves traveling all the way from thousand miles to steal your cup of hot chocolate? You just think we conveniently sneaked in the hotel breakfast room to eat for free? What a stupid and low class reply trained by hotel sacher?

For your information, we came from a group of 30 people staying in your hotel. I already highlighted the unhappiness to the tour agency and make sure that so long we still engaged them to arrange our overseas trips in Europe on the yearly basis, NEVER EVER in this hotel again. We paid a lot for this hotel, this was the kind of respect my wife and I received from hotel sacher? Will not come back and recommend anyone. What a snobbish team.

If you have the good fortune of staying in Salzburg, I could not recommend the Hotel Sacher highly enough.
From the moment we arrived we were treated like one of the family.
Although we didn't get a river view the room was spacious and clean, and the fresh fruit, mineral water, plus the pieces of Sacher torte was a nice treat. all the amenities in the room ...TV..DVD Player.. Radio clock with i-pod port were great and the Safe was really easy!
The location of the hotel was very handy for the Old Town, just a short five minute walk across the bridge so if you forget anything its a quick pop back to get it.
The reception staff were great, helping us to arrange our great trips. And after you've dragged yourself around all day a nice relax in the bar to unwind was just the job before we got ready for dinner.
The breakfast and Restaurant staff were very friendly not only remembering your name but what your drink was the night before. Breakfast was good and if they didn't have it they could get it for you. To my shame my German is non existent but the staffs English was fantastic.
All in all a great stay at a great old style hotel.

Room Tip: try and get a river view.

It is almost hard to describe this hotel. Old world classy Europe? The hotel is decorated beautifully as are the rooms. Upon check in, you are escorted to your room by a representative from the front desk as well as the porter with your bags. You find a place setting and fresh fruit and tortes waiting for you. In the evening, you return to your room and find the curtains closed, a footmat and slippers alongside of you bed, the bed turned down and a piece of chocolate. The hotel is just a 5 minutewalk from old town. The staff are extremely courteous and helpful. You really feel special when you are a guest here. This is my second stay here, and if I return to Salzburg, I will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the river is great. The front of the hotel has no view.

We were greeted at the door by a friendly doorman who somehow already knew our name making us feel very welcome right from the start. The check-in was also very smooth and we were given a number of brochures and orientation information to get further acquainted with the city. Our room was simply beautiful. Unfortunately we did not have a river view, however the charming decor and decent room size made up for this. The bathroom was also well appointed and shortly after arrival we were presented with a fresh fruit bowl, chocolates and two mini Sacher Tortes. The breakfast which was included in our package had a good selection of options and again the staff at the hotel restaurant were friendly and welcoming. The location of this hotel, the old world charm and fantastic service are what makes this hotel such a special place to stay. The old town and Christmas markets are a short stroll away and there are some fantastic local restaurants nearby. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who is looking for a special boutique hotel experience in Salzburg. It is a little on the pricey side, however if you book in advance you can sometimes get a pretty good deal. And don't forget to try their famous Sacher Torte (they even have it on the breakfast buffet!)

We just returned from four weeks in Europe, with stays Vienna, Salzburg, Geneva, Gordes and much more in France and England also. One of the two highlights of the trip regarding our hotels was the Sacher.

When staying in Salzburg two things are critically important. The first is being close to the "Old Town" area of the city. The second is being adjacent to the Salzach River, the heart of the city. The Sacher is one of the few hotels that provides both of these attributes...and does so with so much style.

Service was truly outstanding, the room was to die for, the view - out of this world, and yet so convenient that everything we wanted to see was within easy walking distance. It just doesn't get any better than this. All star ratings aside, even those aren't created equal. You cannot go wrong with this hotel when in Salzburg

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is high and overlooking the river. We got that without asking, as I believe the...

The location of the Hotel Sacher Salzburg is excellent, and the hotel has fantastic views of the Salzach river. The customer service was exceptional, and the rooms were immaculate! I would gladly stay at this hotel again.
