“Christmas markets”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

This would be Salzburgs best Christmas markets. You can visit the grounds and see the large Sturgeons (fish) in the ponds. Also great other times, especially if you are a Sound of Music person as the famous pavillion is there.

“Great Fun For The Whole Family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

The Hellbrunn Palace and Gardens are definately worth a visit if you have more than a day or two in Salzburg. You can get there and back on bus #25 from the Old Town and it takes about 15 minutes each way. However, we caught a boat (Tour II) from Marketsteg and enjoyed a 35 minute cruise up the river to the Palace. The cost of the boat cruise was 14 Euro per adult and we caught bus #25 back to town.

The palace itself is pretty, though not exactly awe-inspiring. The staff said it takes just 20 minutes to see the entire exhibition and that's about right. The audio-guide was useful and provided informative commentary without going into ridiculous amounts of detail.

The real attraction are the Trick Water Fountations. The tour guide spoke English, Italian and German, though its fair to say the German commentary lasted at least 3x longer than the English or Italian. Even so, the trick fountains themselves are a great attraction and kept our children (3&5) totally enthralled. The tour of the fountains lasted about an hour.

The craftsmanship and engineering involved is very impressive and the fountain tour was a highlight of our stay in Salzburg. The gardens are also very beautiful. This is the sort of place you could spend an entire afternoon simply soaking up the beauty of your surroundings.

Personally, I think its a fraction over-priced but this is nothing new in Austria. They charge for children 4+ which is a bit steep.

I'd definately recommend this attraction and if time and money allows do catch the boat up the river. Note that the boat only runs until 31 October after which it goes out of service until March.

“Fun”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

the magic fountains are cute and good for some laughs. The tour guide will tell you where the water will come out if its cold outside, or you can also just look on the floor for water. Be aware however that the guide we had had a very thick accent and was hard to understand so even if he told you, you may not understand. The gardens are pretty but small, in the back corner they have a huge children's playground. Up on the hill they have a small palace with a museum of Salzburg culture with costumes, furniture, etc. Nothing too interesting and its a hard climb. The gazebo from the sound of music is also there and worth a quick look. The palace itself is hardly a palace and has a few wall paintings and about 4 pieces of furniture, nothing too exciting.

“Fun and Entertaining!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We had lots of fun here. The water fountains are fun and our guide made sure everyone had lots of fun. He kept shooting people with the fountains and everyone had a great time, even though it was super cold! Some of the fountains are very interesting and fun to watch. Worth the trip.
