“Excellent boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2011

It is a stylish, excellently furnished boutique hotel. Difficult to believe that it is in a 800 year old structure but the architect has very cleverly retained visibility of the old stone structure in the breakfast room and staircases. It has the warmth of a small hotel. The Room was small because the hotel is in the heart of the historical old town but it is well appointed with good quality fittings. The only thing missing was the tea/ coffee maker in the room. The hotel serves only breakfast but the spread is good and made to order eggs were available on request. The location is excellent as most places of tourist interest are within a few minutes' walking distance.

Sometimes selfishness gets in the way of a good review. We stayed for three nights in this gem of a hotel in the middle of the old town in Salzburg. For purely selfish reasons we don't want too many people to find out about this place but the staff and owners deserve to be praised for their excellent hotel! It's small; only fifteen rooms, all of a good size and fitted out in a modern but comfortable style. The location is right in the heart of the old town in easy walking distance of all the major tourist attractions. A lovely breakfast is part of the package. Great restaurants and eateries surround the hotel, so there is plenty of variety for lunch and dinner. Staff were very warm and attentive. A great boutique hotel in a great location.

This boutique hotel was so enjoyable, so well-located, so coolly furnished that we came back and stayed another night (though that meant scrambling to cancel a reservation elsewhere). It's a little pricey, but the rooms are super-modern and comfortable, the hotel is situated in the heart of Salzburg's old town (and steps from the cathedral), and the service was consistently top-notch. This was one of our very favorite hotels from a family trip to Austria, Switzerland, and Germany. I look forward to my next stay.

What a wonderful hotel! We wish we could have stayed longer! The location was perfect. The hotel was beautiful - very modern and sleek mixed in with old architectural elements. The rooms were immaculate and the staff was very helpful. The owner was very welcoming and went out of his way to help us. My only suggestion would be to ask for directions for parking to the hotel prior to departure because it is located in a pedestrian only area.

My husband and I took a chance and arrived in Salzburg (after touring Germany) without a hotel reservation. Hotel Am Dom is listed in the AAA book and we were fortunate to get a room. The hotel is run very well and is immaculate. It is a lovely gem in the heart of Old Town Salzburg. We stayed in room 512 which was beautiful. Take time to enjoy the delicious breakfast. The hotel is located in the pedestrian zone. The GPS in the car will not correctly get you there. You will need to park the car and walk to the hotel. Parking, internet and breakfast were included in the price and the owner was very helpful. Enjoy your stay!

Room Tip: Room 512 is perfect!

My wife and I just spent 3 wonderful nights here and what a delight. Freindly, convenient, helpful. Brand new rooms with air-conditioning, wonderful breakfast. We would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I enjoyed a 3 night stay at Hotel Am Dom. It is very central to everything. The hotel is very well presented, rooms have a modern look and are very clean and comfortable.
The only thing I would confirm before leaving is to get directions on how to get to the hotel if on foot. Also if driving the best place to park the car and then directions to the hotel. We arrived when a concert was happening in the main square, and bollards were up and we were not able to drive to the hotel and drop luggage off. I had to walk from the other end of the town and ask where the hotel was, then walk to hotel, and get directions from the reception staff of how to bring car in with all the luggage. I then had to walk back up to the car and then used a code to get through the bollards, and check into hotel and then park car in parking area suggested by staff.
When you have had a long day driving it would be nice to know these things beforehand. I think this a question us travellers need to ask more often.

I would definately recommend anyone staying here. The staff were very helpful to assist where they could. The owner even collected our car from the parking area on our last day, which made checking out much easier. Thank you for a great stay.

Room Tip: Higher floor for quietness if you sleep light.
