Absolutely our favorite hotel in Salzburg. Right in the heart of old town. Walking distance to the funicular to the old fortress, which hosts beautiful concerts in the old castle. Staff very friendly and helpful. Clean modest rooms, the apartment suite is the best! Wonderful breakfast every morning. Steps away from all the shops and restaurants.

We regretted our decision to only stay one night after we had such incredible service from the staff at the Hotel Goldene Ente. Not only were they very knowledgeable and helpful, but their outgoing and friendly personalities made our stay very memorable. Our room was clean and spacious and breakfast was delicious. Thank you Ulrike for making our stay very memorable!

My parents and I travelled to Salzburg mid september 2010 and stayed at the Goldene Ente for 2 nights. The accomodation was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful especially Ulrike, she was just great and would do anything to help you. The hotel is located in the old part of Salzburg and is on a quaint little street, with other shops and a large square at one end, where the horse and carridges go around and where the Christmas markets are held. It is also walking distance to the cable car's up to the fortress. We also attended a Mozart dinner concert, which we would definately recommend to do, as it was amazing, even my dad enjoyed it, and this to was walking distance from the hotel. We would definately come back here. I would also love to see this place at Christmas time, with all the snow and Christmas decortations. It would be very magical!

Great location-charming innkeeper-spacious accomadation-nice breakfast. The apartment had 1 full bath and 1 sink and toilet room-perfect for 2 couples. We walked from the train station with luggage-not a problem. Restaurant outside was good. Biggest complaint was no wi-fi, but access to computer near office.

but mine was unfortunately not one of them. The hotel is absolutely charming and the service is memorable, but some rooms are much nicer than others. I took the train from Munich to dry out for a few days after Oktoberfest. I called upon arriving in Salzburg and they had one room left- I thought I had lucked out! The hotel is located right in the heart of the Altstadt- the location could not be better. You step out onto a quaint old street full of shops and restaurants, and you can walk everywhere. However, my room (#7) was an interior room on the second floor that was spacious and well-appointed- but lacked a window. Besides the absence of natural light, it gave the room a stuffy feel to it that the tiny fan couldn't quite address. Unfortunately, there were no other rooms available, and I didn't feel like schlepping around the Altstadt with my luggage- so I just stayed. I did get a pretty good night's sleep all in all- no chirping birds or streaming sunlight to disturb me! And the rate was pretty reasonable, just 75 euros. Also on the positive note, breakfast is nice. And this hotel probably has the nicest management of anywhere I've stayed in recent memory. They went out of their way to be helpful and friendly, and really made me feel welcome. One suggestion is that they could offer free wi-fi to guests. Not that you need to be glued to your e-mail in a charming place like Salzburg, but it would still be a nice service to have.

On the whole, the place seemed fantastic- it was just a shame that I didn't have a more visually-appealing room. I would still recommend the place, but make sure you ask to see your room before you pay!

My husband and I stayed here with our 22 year old daughter. Upon arrival, we were given a room with two single beds and a hard-as-a-rock couch that they put a sheet on and called a bed. After speaking with the woman at the front desk she declined to do anything to rectify the problem. Very, very disappointing. Food is very good though and location. Next time I would go back to the Hotel Elefant a few streets away, much nicer.

This is a small jewel in the most charming street in Salzburg near everything. Wonderful breakfast, clean rooms, excellent restaurant on premises, perfect for the Salzburg Festival. Ulrike who manages the hotel is fantastic.
