“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

This hotel is a real charm. Wonderful Rooms in a600 year old building located on a perfect Salzburg street and all within walking distance of everything you could possibly want to see. Great staff! The ground floor restaurant is a separate entity but try to not miss it. The food is pure Austrian, reasonably priced and very good. Do miss the Nockrel dessert!!!
Keep in mind, we were told, this hotel will close on or about Jan 1, 2014 for 6 months of reno and reopen under another name. Try to get in before things change...............

Booked die Goldene Ente after reading excellent reviews online. Arrived in Salzburg after a long traffic filled ride in the pouring rain. The hotel is in the old city and you cannot drive there, despite what your GPS says. This is not noted prominently anywhere and we actually had to pull over and call the hotel to find out how to get there. We had to park in a garage that was at least three blocks and a town square away. Also, there are columns that pop out of the street after 10 or 11 am that allow street cleaners and delivery trucks to drive through the old town in the am--you don't want to get stuck in old town after that.

Our room was "ok". Very close to the neighboring buildings. Furnishings were old and mismatched. Room was clean. Windows did not close all the way and breakfast was ok. Everything was just ok. Meh

This was our third stop on a European vacation and our best.

Historic Salzburg is packed into a pretty small area. You can walk to all the major attractions. Mozart's birthplace is only about a block away and the lift to the Salzburg castle only about four blocks.

The Goldene Ente (Golden Duck) is a quaint centrally located hotel in Salzburg. We were made welcome by the receptionist Ulricka who made us feel welcome and served as breakfast host. She was able to answer all our questions and line up reservations for excursions.

The hotel has very limited U.S./English television access, a single shared internet terminal and small rooms in a historic building over 400 years old. But these limitations were overshadowed by an otherwise great experience.

We would definitely stay here again if we make it back to Salzburg.

The Hotel Golden Ente is a great place to stay because it is right in the best part of the old town. Goldgasse is just an excellent street. The hotel lobby is on the first (second in the US) floor but there is a lift and the staff is very friendly and helpful - even if you are not Rick Steves who stayed here. The room was small but had its own bath. There was a WiFi spot but was not available in the room. We were in 12 hotels in 12 cities on our vacation and this was the best breakfast and it was included in the price of the room. There is no need to walk from the train station because a bus stop is just a few blocks away. We have forgotten the bus number but just ask a bus driver or call the hotel and they will tell you which bus to get on. However, when you go back to the train station you have another bus. Catch #1 in front of the Burger King on Rudolfskai. Single bus tickets are cheap as elsewhere and you probably will not need a day pass because most things you want to see are in walking distance of the hotel. If you are coming by car you can call the hotel and they can give you a number for temporary access to the area to deliver your luggage. We ate at the restaurant on the ground floor twice. It is a good restaurant and convenient but you probably will need reservations. There was a safe in the room and the fleece robes, the slippers and the umbrellas were a nice touch.

It is a fine 3 star hotel that could use a refresh. Lack of wifi in the rooms and the main common areas was a problem. Breakfast is nothing special. Wonderful location and the restaurant downstairs is excellent.

We had a wonderful stay at the Golden Ente. We were kindly greeted by the front desk woman, who couldn't have been more helpful. The location is perfect for the bus line or walking distance. The room was clean, wih a comfy bed. The street was a little noisy at night but nothing terrible. There was also no internet in the rooms because of the stone walls, but it was accessible one level down. We would definitely stay here again
