“A charming small hotel in the old section of Salzburg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

Good breakfast daily, fantastic concierge called Ulrike, great location central to all the major sights. One detraction was cooking smells from the restaurant downstairs wafted up to first floor bedroom (due to great weather, I kept one of the two bedroom windows open all night!).

I stayed here for four nights and loved it. The host, Ulrike, was amazing. She was very welcoming, helpful in discussing potential itineraries and organising tours and transfers. The room was full of character and a decent size and well equipped for a European hotel. The trade off on location (being in the old town) was there was a bit of noise from the street below at times but I didn't find it diminished my experience of the hotel. The breakfast was perfectly nice with Ulrike making coffee or tea for guests throughout the morning while gracefully dealing with phone calls and other hotel business. Ulrike also invited guests to make up a lunch pack on their last day which was a nice touch. I would definitely stay here again when next I return to Salzburg.

Room Tip: I had room 14 at the front of the Hotel on floor 3 and was very happy.

We stayed in the two room apartment and while it was very clean, it was quite shabby. The furniture was very cheap and the beds were uncomfortable, especially the one in the main room. It didn't have a box spring hand the mattress was very thin, we gave that one to the kids.
While it looked to be relatively freshly painted, pieces of the window seals and baseboards etc were torn off. Really shabby. Like I said it was clean though which is really the most important part. Clean sheets and towels.
Thy had Decent linens and even provided robes and slippers.
The lady who worked at the front desk was SUPER friendly and helpful.
The breakfast buffet was okay, we have had better though.
For the price, cleanliness and hospitality, I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Charming and quaint hotel in a central location in the old town. The manageress was very pleasant and helpful and provided us with a map of the town and explained all the sights! The room was spacious with all amenities and we ate in the hotel restauramt which was excellent with good service. We had an early departure and the manageress met us in the breakfast room and had breakfast ready and booked a taxi for us. A thoroughly enjoyable stay. Would recommend and would stay again!

We travelled in late September with our two children and had two twin rooms. Located just a few metres from the main square in the old part Salzburg on a tiny old street, this is the perfect place to stay to get the spirit of Salzburg. The building is nearly 700 years old so the rooms are all different sizes. The beds are comfy and the rooms are clean but could be a little warm in Summer. The highlight is definitely Ulrike, your host. She is friendly, helpful and was fantastic with our children (6 & 11). The stairs are narrow to each floor, but this only adds to the charm for us. Breakfast was included and plentiful and food at the restaurant was great, or it is only 5 - 10 minute walk to most restaurants in the old part of town. Great place to explore the old town of Salzburg from.

If you are looking for all the modern trappings of a 5 star, sterile characterless Chain Hotel then don't bother with the Goldene Ente. However if you want a hotel with lots of character, great location wonderful staff and a cozy trip down memory lane then this is the place for you.Stayed here for 4 nights in mid October and really enjoyed it. The building is hundreds of years old which places a lot of restrictions on what can and can't be done, but our room was bright and cheerful with good bathroom and all very clean. great location in the centre of town and only a short stroll to everything, plus there is a friendly cosy restaurant/bar at ground level. The real highlight is the staff - Ulrike, the Manager is just great and does so much to help and ensures everything runs like clockwork. Breakfasts are filling and good selection. WiFi is limited to a guest area but was free and unlimited, as was use of a computer. We found this a great place to stay, but it may not be for everybody, but do give it a try!

Room Tip: Keep your window closed at night but leave the bathroom window open

We stayed with our 4 children, oldest being 8, for one night. The top floor suite they had reserved for us was a perfect size, and the only hotel we found that could accommodate 6 people in one room. The staff was warm and cheerful, and really made us feel welcome!

The location is perfect for strolling the old town and seeing the fortress and churches. We ate at the restaurant attached to the hotel, which had good traditional food, but was somewhat lacking in child friendly fare.
