“Great Hospitality Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2011

The Golden Ente is a nice hotel, about *600 years old building, conveniently located in the beautiful old town of Salzburg. Ulrike was very warm and hospitable. The breakfast was included and very good too. There is also a nice restaurant on the ground floor. The room and bathroom were very clean and updated. After train, tram, bus rides and hauling luggage around, it was nice to drop off our bags and walk down the street to enjoy the beauty of this pedestrian town. This hotel is walking distance to the main sights, as well as any bus or tram stops needed to travel to the nearby towns and train station. We found out about this hotel from reading Rick Steves travel books. We will definitely come back to this hotel if we are fortunate to return to Salzburg.
* not very sure about the real age of this building.

The location of this hotel can not be beat! Located on a narrow cobbled "street" in the Alstadt, and only a few short steps away from the Salzburg Cathedral, the Residence, Salzburg Fortress, Mozartplaz, Cafe Thomaselli and a five minute walk to the Salzach River This hotel is exudes everything that is the old world. The hotel is in a 600 year old building with medieval arches and narrow stone stairways, which is absolutely charming. Not to worry - the hotel has an elevator! The breakfast room is spacious with numerous choices each day for breakfast! The rooms are good size, by European standards, with your own personal safe and large wardrobe. There is an award winning, fabulous, restaurant downstairs which we would highly recommend. Our room overlooked the "street", which at times was interesting, but it also gave us perspective of life 100, 300, 600 yrs. ago. To wake up, or go to sleep, listening to the church bells from the Salzburg Cathedral & St. Peters is beyond words. HOWEVER - what really makes Golden Ente so special is a wonderful lady named Ulrike. Ulrike greeted us, the moment we arrived, like we had been friends forever!. Not only does she run a "tight ship", but she is an amazing hostess with a wonderful sense of humor and has a personality and heart that is larger than life. We welled up with tears when our viist came to an end, and we had to say good-bye. As we walked down the alley, with the cab driver and our luggage, she called out the window to wave and say a final "good-bye". The Hotel Golden Ente is indeed charming - but It is Ulrike that makes it "very special". We will definitely return to this hotel the next time we visit Salzburg!

Room Tip: Request a room that is not located on the street. Sounds echo, so it can tend to be a little noisy a...

We stayed at the Goldene Ente for two nights and were fortunate enough to be allocated the Suite which was a VERY large two bedroom apartment. It seems we were the lucky ones! Our room (suite) had the usual amenities and lacked nothing. The shower pressure was good and the bed was comfortable (we had two to choose from!). Ulrike is funny and I liked her a lot! We loved her making sure we had "plans" (or a "programme" for the day, as she called it,) without trying to sell us a tour. She was helpful without being intrusive or pushy. We would deinately stay there again as it is right in the middle of the old town - this hotel is in a perfect location. The restaurant downstairs (which I believe is a seperate entity) is very good too. Make sure you try their Salzburger Nockerl as you won't be disappointed.

My daughter and I spent a weekend here and found it excellent. The location is perfect and the owner is so helpful and friendly. The room was great, everything we needed. Excellent restaurant downstairs.

I wish I could give this place a better review as the folks who ran it go out of their way to make your visit pleasant. True hospitality. The property is said to be newly renovated, but it is in a 600 year old building and maybe there is only so much one can do. The room we has was very large, but sparsely furnished in distressed antiques. The room was gloomy as it opened onto an airshaft in the center of the building.

Internet is provided through and older computer in the hallway, which was frequently occupied.

Breakfast was quite good, but don't try to use the coffee machine on your own! It was rather funny to watch others try self-service only to be quickly intercepted by the hostess who would fill your cup for you.

The hotel is centrally located just steps away from the cathedral and that alone might be worth the price charged for many. We thought it was a bit high for what was offered, however.

The hostess, Ulrike is instantly an "old friend" and helps you in any way she can--always with a smile. She even emailed us links so that we could line up musical events before we arrived. We have stayed here before and wanted to come back to see her and enjoy the perfect location of this wonderful hotel. The breakfasts were delicious, too.

We just finished a short stay and were very pleased with Goldene Ente. The location was near to everything in the Old City. The rooms are quite small, however. The hostess, Ulricke, was super. If you want location with friendly service without breaking the bank, I recommend highly.
