Our stay at Haus Arenberg was delightful. The location was ideal for our family, quiet, gorgeous view, yet with easy access to the city center. The inn keepers were very helpful in providing information on local attractions, giving us an insiders’ view of Salzburg. The breakfast was served in a lovely sunroom, and the food was excellent. Our room had a balcony overlooking the Alps. The grounds are private and lush. It was a wonderful way to explore all that Salzburg has to offer, and to have a feel for the rich cultural offerings of this amazing city. We plan on making Haus Arenberg our home away from home each time we come to Salzburg.

We really enjoyed our time at Haus Arenberg. Gabrielle and her family could not have been better or more accomodating as hosts. She was wonderful to ask about reservations and activities, and you truly do feel like you are staying in her home (which you ARE.). The breakfast was great, and she offered to fix my son eggs every morning, something he enjoyed very much. She even moved a room for us when she realized that our kids were bigger that she expected. I can't say enough about how much she improved the quality of our trip. We had three nights in Salzburg, and all of them were memorable. This isn't like a "5 star" hotel....you get great service and a wonderful, local experience but it isn't overly fancy or luxurious. It is "5 star" in other ways, which are all great.

The hotel is about a 15 minute walk to the main center, uphill, but not terrible. We enjoyed being out of the noisy center, as we had just come from Munich and stayed in the city center there. We took the bus (very easy) to Berchesgarten and also to Hallein to the salt mines and luge. I would suggest a rental car to Hallein. While close, it is more difficult to navigate the bus schedules.

I can't wait to go back one day. A wonderful, peaceful place.

We rented 2 rooms as we are a family of 5 adults. We were on 2 different floors but that was the only negative and it was very minor. The owners are delightful and welcoming. This bed and breakfast is a bit spendy but worth every penny. There are beautiful flowers welcoming you at the entrance and in the backyard and patio area. The food at breakfast, which was included, was fresh, plentiful and delicious. An assortment of pastries, breads, kuchen, cereal, yogurt and more- Gabrielle offers to make eggs for you on the spot and serves up as much coffee as you can drink. The rooms are decorated in a homey, european atmosphere with beamed ceilings and attention to detail. The location of this place is on top of a hill and can be tricky to drive a rental car up to. The owners will tell you to walk to town, at first ,we were not sure but it really is very walkable and beats the traffic jams that are a given in this popular destination. The weather was a bit rainy so bring an umbrella with you !

Room Tip: Ask for room 6 with the balcony-great views.

We booked this accommodation online under Salzburg Card package (3 nights / 72 hr) through Salzburg Tourism website. The room is very clean, has everything we need for our entire trip including free WIFI, the service is very friendly and professional considering this is a family owned business. The owner is very attentive. They serve cold breakfast but again there are so many variety of food to choose from. The location of this place can be a bit challenging for elderly tourists especially if planning to arrive by bus as it involves 500 meters walk from the bus stop up the slope. But this can be soon forgotten as it is compensated by tranquillity of the area, the view of the mountain top and warm hospitality of the staff. The hotel is only 10 mins walk to the city or 5 mins via bus no. 6

I definitely recommend this place to anyone. I personally will definitely come back here again if I’d ever come back to Salzburg.

i booked this hotel over the internet and wasn't dissapointed. It's about a 15 min walk from the Old Town set in a residential quiet area. It was a bonus to leave the car at the hotel and walk into town. The rooms are adequate being modern with a balcony overlooking the Alps. The only one dissapointment was the bathroom which stated a bathtub (in the official guide), but it was a shower which was open to the toilet so if you showered the whole toilet floor was wet. Also the breakfast whilst good had no hot dishes such as scrammbled eggs or bacon which we had in every other hotel we stayed in during our Austrian trip. For a city hotel it was good with a good nights sleep to refresh one. We'd certainly stay here again.

We stayed at Haus Arenberg in January with a 12, 9 and 3 year old. The hotel was wonderful and the staff were fantastic. The rooms were very roomy for Europe and well worth the cost. The family made you feel at home and were very helpful with ideas for eating and sight seeing. It is a 10 minute walk to downtown - and even with the cold and snow was extremely enjoyable. We will stay here again when we travel back to Salzburg.

We satyed in this charming Pension for 4 nights in the Summer of 2007 and had a very enjoyable time.

The location is excellent, with the walk to the centre of town not only quick but very pleasant.

The guest house was typically Austrian, and although the many animal heads in the breakfast room may have raised a few eyebrows they certainly added to the charm.

Our room didn't quite live up to expectations, the castle views were replaced by one of a hedge, and due to our room being in teh basement we had frequent visits from spiders etc.

Overall, this is a great place to stay and I would definately reccommend it if you are looking for affordable, quaint Austrian charm close to the centre of Salzburg.

  • Liked — proximity to centre of town
  • Disliked — lack of light in room
