“Good location, but you cannot avoid the steps in this hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

Stayed three nights on half board with Riviera Lakes & Mountains tour. The hotel has a good location near the Mirabelle gardens and a bridge across the river to the old city centre. We had an enormous room at the front of the hotel, overlooking the street. But it was sparsely furnished and the bathroom was small, although adequate. The weather was very hot, about 35C during the day, so we needed to have the windows open at night, even though a fan was provided. However, there was a lot of street noise, and we were disturbed by the rubbish being collected at 6am every morning.
The hotel is built on a hillside so when you get out of the lift at, say, level 3, there is a landing from which you have to go down about 8 steps to the rooms at the front, or up about 8 steps to the rooms at the back. This split level is also in the dining room. At breakfast the self-service area is at an intermediate level between the lower dining room at the front and the higher one at the back.
Breakfasts were excellent, with cooked breakfasts made to order and brought to the table. There was no choice in our half-board dinner menu, but we enjoyed the variety of what was provided. Wines were a bit expensive. Beware that unless you buy a bottle, the wine is charged by the 125cc glass. If you get a half-litre carafe you are charged for four glasses. So you might just as well get one glass, and then get another if you like it, or get something different if you don't.
We went up to the roof "garden" on a couple of occasions, but it was deserted. There is access from the roof garden to a public footpath up the hillside to a viewpoint over the city.
We found all the staff to be friendly and generally helpful. On balance we recommend this hotel, especially for when the weather is not so hot, and providing that you are OK with stairs.

Our 3 night stay was charming, we travelled with Riviera on their Lakes & Mountains tour and our first port of call was in Saltzburg staying at the Stadtkrug Hotel. Ideally located and full of old fashioned charm, it was perfect for exploring the city. Our room was fairly small and quite stuffy but they had provided us with an electric fan. Lovely bathroom, lots of nice white towels. The staff and management were great, very attentive and extremely pleasant. Food was great, as was the service. Would go back again!

This hotel only just edges into this category at 150e a night.
On arrival the hotel did not have our booking from Booking.com.but did have a room free.I mailed the agency and was phoned back directly and they insisted the booking had been sent.Nothing further was mentioned re this in our three day stay.
The room was a very good size and well equipped, but quite dark even with the lights on.The worst feature was a cheap looking laminate flooring that squeaked in some parts.
There was a builder cutting tiles on a machine just outside the window. We asked the member of staff at reception about this and she assured us it was a one off that day, however,he was there the next day as well.I would like to think that this was the last room available.we were told that the roof garden was closed,as was the restaurant for the first two nights although advertised as open on a Wednesday. It was open on the Thursday but I think that may have been due to a few parties on half board.
The breakfast was varied and of good quality but there are a number of steps to negotiate between the buffet and the restaurant proper.
This sound a bit negative but the hotel has a great location and a lot of history and this together with the very helpful staff and management leads me to believe that we were probably unlucky and would not want to deter others.

Big announcement on web page special diets like gluten free and others no problem.
We also mentioned this along with our booking some GF bread would be good asked the unfriendly staff for some get the answer it is not their business I should talk to reception.
In general staff is not polite more rude. Also the way to the hotel is not right on the web page due to road work. Was in hotels around the world never happened to me like this here maybe Austria has changed since I am living abroad sad to see.

Lovely hotel right in the old part of the City. Really enjoyed our stay, rooms were comfortable - our room was at the rear of the hotel was quiet apart from on the Sunday morning when a nearby church woke us with it's bell calling its congregation. A lot of the food is sourced from the hotels farm, gluten & wheat free diet not a problem.

Room Tip: Would recommend a room at the rear of the hotel to avoid noise from the street

We stayed here for two nights. We arrived early evening and, because the hotel was on a restricted access street, found it a little challenging to find. However, once we arrived, the hotel staff made up for the frustration. Great location, wonderful room, and beautiful wine garden at the top. The restaurant was closed for dinner the two days we were there but the front desk recommendation for dinner was spot on. Breakfast was plentiful and included eggs. Any staff person we encountered was extremely pleasant and helpful. Over all, I would stay there again

We took the night train from Paris and arrived at 10:30AM and the manager gave us breakfast when we arrived tired and hungry,he gave us directions on where to go and suggested a terrific restaurant for our first nights dinner.I can't say enough about this Hotel and the staff, including a great breakfast including eggs your way.I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a central location.
