“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2010

Ms. Marianne and her family made our stay at this hotel very pleasant. Their attention to their guests' was outstanding with their welcoming smiles and friendly personalities. The central location was fantastic, as was the home cooked breakfasts. The rooms were true to the character of the region but none the less comfortable and clean, and affordable. We highly recommend this hotel and extend our thanks and appreciation to the family for making our brief stay in Salzburg very rewarding.

Although across the river from old town center, it is only a 5 minute walk to the action. A narrow hotel, located on a quiet street with small but charming rooms that offer a good nights sleep. The staff is very eager to please and serve a full breakfast with yummy, hot, made at the moment omelets.

I just returned from a 2-day stay at the Garni Trumer Stube, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. I was surprised to see the negative reviews on this site, but then realized they were written several years ago and mostly focused on Giovanni. Now, Marianne (Giovanni's daughter, perhaps?) is the main person you deal with, and she couldn't be more polite. She is extremely helpful and friendly, and went above and beyond to make my stay stress-free (she dealt with my tour company when they called to reschedule my tour, and also offered to let me use the front desk computer for a moment when I needed to quickly book a train ticket.) The rooms are clean and spacious for Europe, and I believe they all have their own bathrooms (mine did, anyway). I also got a great reduced rate by using booking.com (I'm not sure I could have afforded the hotel otherwise). The hotel is just above the river; it's about four short blocks to the top of old town. There was some minor street noise from the restaurant on the same block, but it was pretty quiet by 11 or so during the days I was there. There was also construction going on down the block (they started work soon after the Glockenspiel at 7 am), but presumably that will be finished sometime in summer 2010. If you want a quieter room, try requesting one on the back side.
The hotel is just over a mile from the train station - an easy walk if you don't have many bags, or a 7E taxi ride.

Hello everybody...

In the center of Salzburg we found this very nice hotel with a room for the whole family. The hotel is not too fancy, just nice and clean and friendly - and not expensive, especially when considering the neighbourhood.

We would go there again if we visit Salzburg again.

I recently visited Salzburg and found this nice family-run hotel within walking distance of all the main sights and the train station.

Being family-run the Trumer Stube had the sort of personal attention you don't get in chain hotels The family: father, mother, daughter were fabulous whether preparing breakfast in the morning or giving guidance to guests including ones who lacked sufficient German language skills. It is also very affordable especially considering Salzburg is a major tourist city.

The good: The location was in central Salzburg, within close walking distance of all major Salzburg sights. The hotel personnel were friendly, although they constantly gave us the hard up-sell on all kinds of cheesy touristy activities. Be prepared to be subjected to a cheery sales routine.

The very bad: We were lied to about their credit card policy, and forced to pay in cash. When I tried to pay for the room with a credit card (a US-issued Visa), the girl at the desk refused to accept it. I was told that they would only take cash. When I explained that I had no cash and had expected to pay by credit card, I was very cheerfully pointed to the nearest ATM. If I had known that they wouldn't accept credit cards, I would have stayed elsewhere. It's a perfectly fine hotel, but a little truth-in-advertising would've helped. (Surprisingly, I don't see too many other reviews that complain about this ... perhaps others were warned about the card policy ahead of time, or the owners just chose to screw with us for some reason. Either way, it doesn't help matters.)

If I hadn't been treated so poorly by the owners, I might've recommended the place. The location IS convenient. If you can get a low enough rate, try it out, but be sure to bring a stack of euros just in case they try to pull the same scam.
