“Austrian cosiness for at reasonable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2010

Hello everybody...

In the center of Salzburg we found this very nice hotel with a room for the whole family. The hotel is not too fancy, just nice and clean and friendly - and not expensive, especially when considering the neighbourhood.

We would go there again if we visit Salzburg again.

I recently visited Salzburg and found this nice family-run hotel within walking distance of all the main sights and the train station.

Being family-run the Trumer Stube had the sort of personal attention you don't get in chain hotels The family: father, mother, daughter were fabulous whether preparing breakfast in the morning or giving guidance to guests including ones who lacked sufficient German language skills. It is also very affordable especially considering Salzburg is a major tourist city.

The good: The location was in central Salzburg, within close walking distance of all major Salzburg sights. The hotel personnel were friendly, although they constantly gave us the hard up-sell on all kinds of cheesy touristy activities. Be prepared to be subjected to a cheery sales routine.

The very bad: We were lied to about their credit card policy, and forced to pay in cash. When I tried to pay for the room with a credit card (a US-issued Visa), the girl at the desk refused to accept it. I was told that they would only take cash. When I explained that I had no cash and had expected to pay by credit card, I was very cheerfully pointed to the nearest ATM. If I had known that they wouldn't accept credit cards, I would have stayed elsewhere. It's a perfectly fine hotel, but a little truth-in-advertising would've helped. (Surprisingly, I don't see too many other reviews that complain about this ... perhaps others were warned about the card policy ahead of time, or the owners just chose to screw with us for some reason. Either way, it doesn't help matters.)

If I hadn't been treated so poorly by the owners, I might've recommended the place. The location IS convenient. If you can get a low enough rate, try it out, but be sure to bring a stack of euros just in case they try to pull the same scam.

Charming small hotel, very conveniently located. The room we had was big enough, very quiet altough on the street side, and quite nicely decorated.
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and made sure our stay was pleasant. They have good advices about concerts, and touristic informations.
Breakfast was OK, nothing special, but again served by friendly employees.
Definitely a place that I would warmly recommend for a romantic, and not too expensive, trip!

On arrival, we were greeted by a most friendly and helpful receptionist/owner. She helped to organise daytrips and gave us lots of ideas about places to see and visit. Our bedroom was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The street itself was extremely quiet so a good night sleep is guaranteed. Despite its quiet location, it is actually in an ideal spot as it is almost right in the middle of the old and the new town, tucked quietly away. Close and within walking distance to all cafes, restaurants, bars and shopping. Almost directly across the road you'll find a lovely, comfortable pub run by a nice friendly couple which guarantees a perfect night cap. Breakfast was nice and simple and again you are greeted and served by friendly and polite people. On our last day our flight was late in the evening and we were asked by the owner if we wanted to leave our luggage to collect later in the day. We were delighted with this and returned to collect it later that evening. Again the staff were most helpful and rang us our taxi. I cannot commend the staff enough, particularly the younger girl who was so friendly, helpful and genuinely nice all of the time. A lovely stay in a homely and wonderful little hotel!!

We stayed here one night in July 2009. Our tested and true Garmin Nuvi took us right to the door of this otherwise tricky to find hotel. We liked the Trumer Stube as a very good value in a fine location. Sylvia was exceptional and helpful. The room overlooked the street and was clean and nicely decorated with a good shower. The breakfast was good but did not stand out.

The hotel is a short walk across the river to the to the old town but it is a nice walk and not a problem at all. The only downside is parking which can take a couple of passes to find a good spot and the police are seemingly eager to write tickets. But the area is attractive with plenty of bakeries etc..

We would return to the Trumer Stube when our travels being us again to Salzburg and would recommend it as a good value and good choice.
