Stayed one night recently at the Hotel Trumer Stube -- the inn keepers are very pleasant and kind and worked to make our stay enjoyable. They offer free Wifi and require that you pay in cash on departure.
The room was small but managed to fit 4 beds which was a good fit for our family. Hand soap and shower gel were provided, which we have learned is not always a given in Europe. The decor is definitely from grandma's house - everything from floral designs, to lace tablecloths and pink bathroom tiles with floral etchings. There is no A/C so you must sleep with the windows open -- and this is where it all went wrong for us. There are several bars/outdoor cafes within a few feet of the hotel. The party was in the street well into the night, then things quieted down for a bit -- and when the bars closed, we were treated to the drunken revelry of several folks on their way out. It was loud and obnoxious, even with earplugs. Once things quieted down (around 2:30 am) we were hopeful for a few hours of decent sleep but then the trash pick up came around 6:30 am... Unfortunately, that was followed by a 7 am sharp start of the heavy construction equipment about 30 feet from the hotel. In fact, the street was completely blocked while we were there - forcing us to pull in to drop luggage and then back out of the street (easily 100 yards) in reverse.
The breakfast was not included but could be purchased for 7.5 Euros -- it was standard continental sweet and salty stuff but lacked fresh fruit. The breakfast room is tiny so leave your backpack in your room until after breakfast. The location was great for the sights around Salzburg, especially Mirabell Gardens. A parking garage is not too far away and the hotel provides a small discount (about 5 Euros) so be sure to tell them if you drove.
Overall, I would stay here again -- if I could get a room off the street. If you are facing the street, you should perhaps just give up and go party with the locals -- Heaven knows we thought about that (but alas, were with the kiddos!) because you sure aren't going to get any sleep!
Ask for a room that does NOT face the street - if you plan to do any sleeping, that is. Besides th...
