“Very nice hotel and hotel staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013 via mobile

This hotel was very good! The staff was friendly and very helpful with your activity planning in Salzburg. My favorite staff member was the hotel yellow Lab named Sven! He was a big hit with my grandchildren! The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Everything in the room worked as advertised. Good Internet access in the room. Very nice little breakfast area which was 7 Euro extra if you wanted to eat there, which we did. The food and coffee were average - typical European spread. No complaints and would stay here again if return to Salzburg! Thanks for the wonderful hospitality! It made our stay in Salzburg a memorable experience! Hello to Sven!! My Lab Daisy would love Sven!

Stayed one night to explore Salzburg and due the good location near to the center we could manage to see the highlight of the city (we were after) by walking instead of driving. Typical Austrian style room nice and clean, good traditional breakfast nothing to complain.

Stayed here for 2 nights with a Rick Steves tour. Nothing to complain about. Location was excellent and room was quiet and clean. Would be a great place to explore Salzburg from. Close by to other restaurants and sightseeing areas.

Room Tip: Hair Dryer-if you need one must ask a front desk and they only have a few.

This was even better than what we anticipated from the good reviews prior to coming. What made this memorable: the warmth and friendliness of of this family-owned hotel. Marianne, her daughter and husband made us feel like family. It was, by far, the friendliest place we stayed on our entire trip. The room was clean and comfortable, an excellent breakfast, and we walked from the train station (however, we are walkers; it is a short taxi ride, if preferable). We chose this place based on Rick Steves recommendation, and we'll go on record to say we were totally satisfied and recommend it without qualification. We will stay there again if we are in Salzburg!

Marianne and her family made our trip to Salzburg a wonderful experience. Our room had a balcony and was wonderful! Breakfast served by the Hirschbichler family was great. This hotel location provided easy access to many sights and Marianne was extremely helpful in recommending various venues.
Lovely hotel and reasonably priced--highly recommend.

Just a short stay in Salzburg, but Marianne helped us pack as much sightseeing into our visit as possible. Her recommendations from restaurants to activities were right on. The room was clean and comfortable. A short taxi ride from train station (only 7 euros) about 10 minute ride and everything else was in walking distance. The only thing I would skip is paying the extra money for breakfast. It is a typical european breakfast but there are too many cafes that offer the best pasteries, cakes and coffee and you should not miss out on them. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a room with balcony.

Altstadt Hotel Garni Trumer Stube is a family-run pension enjoying an attractive location at the northern edge of Altstadt (old city) to the north of (on the right bank of) Salzach River. It may feel a little quirky at times and the amenities are sparse, but the owner Marianne exudes a great personality that characterizes this small hotel more than anything else.

The location is very good, almost excellent. Virtually all the sights are within walking distance, and even Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (the main train station) can be reached on foot. Bergstraße, the road in front of the hotel, is relatively quiet compared to the touristy bustle of Linzer Gasse nearby. The said Linzer Gasse is full of shops including bakeries, restaurants, groceries, marts, and a tiny store selling newspapers as well as the Salzburg Cards (highly recommended for intensive sightseers). Ask Marianne to pinpoint the shops (she speaks perfect English).

The rooms are furnished with a floral theme that some people find cute and others outmoded. While not squeaky-clean, the atmosphere reflects Marianne’s affection to her business and feels homey. As can be expected from small independent European hotels, there is a lack of amenities, especially in bathroom. Nevertheless, the hotel as a whole will do the job for travelers just looking for quiet comfortable nights and not much more. Breakfast can look a little pricey, but it may be worth tasting homemade warmth from Marianne’s mother for at least once.

This hotel’s chief strength lies not in its rooms, nor in its location (though it certainly is good), but in its familial service. It was clear to us that Marianne is genuinely interested in her guests having an enjoyable time in Salzburg. Salzburg hotels commonly offer, and even push for, vouchers for those Schloss-konzerte (castle concerts) and Marionette performances, and the price include a commission. Marianne was never pushy, and on one occasion skipped her share of commission, just because she felt the concert was worth our while.

Hotel Garni Trumer Stube, if taken as a sum of rooms and facilities, would be just another basic mid-range lodging that happens to be on a convenient location. With the warm hospitality along with competitive rates added, however, it rises up above the pack and becomes an attractive choice for budget-minded sightseers. We do recommend this charming pension.
