“April in Salzburg! Wonderful hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We loved staying in a historic hotel right in the old part of Salzburg! We could walk everywhere. The hotel had charm and grace! Breakfast was delightful! Excellent staff, fluent in English. I so enjoyed my 3 night stay!!!

We stayed for 3 nights and had a good experience at this hotel. The couple of minor issues we brought to the front desk were immediately dealt with. The location is great for a tourist. Parking was tricky but the hotel staff were helpful. Breakfast was good and had fair variety. I would recommend this hotel for giving good value for money.

My sister and I loved the location of this hotel. Every year we pick a few new cities to visit and our goal is to try to find hotels that are quaint, within walking to everything, are clean and offer breakfast, free Wi-Fi and are well priced. This hotel was all those things! We had a great experience and found the front desk staff friendly and helpful. They organized a Sound of Music tour for us and stored our luggage and booked a cab for us to the train the last day. We had laundry done at the hotel, good hot breakfast with pots of hot coffee and a cappuccino machine. We plan on coming back as 2 days in Salzburg was not enough! As an American, I can say the parts of Austria and Germany we visited did not "cater" to English speaking clients. Many things are not in English and German words are really long and hard to pronounce so you have to ask questions a lot, but that is part of the fun of being a tourist. This hotel has a cinema that looked like a fun experience but the movies didn't have English subtitles so we didn't go. This hotel is not a Hilton or Westin but I can have that in the states! This hotel is not a luxury hotel but a unique place in a gorgeous city!

Room Tip: Reading the other April review all I could think of is she wasn't on the 4th floor! My sister a...

We spent 2 wonderful days in Salzburg. For such a short stay this hotel is just a perfect choice. You can reach everything in a walking distance. A rooms are rather small, but clean with nice furniture. Breakfast was very good, wide range of food selection. Second day we were around 10 to breakfast but couldn’t find place as the tables were not cleaned – here some room for improvement (not as criticism). The hospitality was very good. Thank you and hope to return soon.

Quaint, old world style hotel in the old town of Salzburg, very convenient location for exploring Salzburg - once you have found it and parked the car! Room was clean and comfortable, excellent breakfast. The staff was very helpful and friendly at check in and check out. There is a lobby bar, but the evening we went there to order drinks the desk clerk totally ignored us until we eventually managed to get his attention, then was quite rude. Things were salvaged when a pleasant lady came and served us and was very friendly. However, the grouchy man kept loudly speaking to her angrily and was clearly having a bad day! The hotel is not easy to find and the parking is both difficult to find and then very tight. We had parked in front if the hotel and misunderstood the directions to get back to the parking and it was a nightmare navigating through the narrow streets. Get detailed directions from the hotel in advance and note that the parking is a sharp left hand turn up a narrow lane BEFORE the hotel entrance - parking in front of the hotel to unload baggage then backing up to drive up into the tiny parking lot (driving "around the block" after leaving the hotel is a recipe for a frustrating tour) is the best plan.

The reception staff were very rude, the man at the desk literally grabbed the sign-in sheet out of my hands before I could finish filling it in and then tossed it back to me - we felt very unwelcome. The room was so small, we couldnt put our suitcases down and still get into bed - one of us had to open the case in the small closet. The room door opens directly into the bathroom! The shower and toilet was in one tiny closet - so small you had to walk in sideways, not even space for towels. We know we had neighbours, because we heard them late each night coughing, or walking above us-- the walls are so thin. - the place is a rabbit's warren of doorways and stairs with no indications where anything is - very disappointing and really gave a bad first impression of our much-awaited trip to Salzburg and Austria. On a positive note, it was clean and breakfast was okay, but crowded.

Green Features: We did not see any practices relating to the environment.

I have never written a hotel review before, but feel that it would be an injustice to other visitors looking at booking this hotel if I don't warn them before they make a decision. What ever this hotel hotel claims, it is not a 4 star hotel. I'm not a fussy traveller having stayed in a range of accommodation around the world from tents, caravans and shacks to 5 star luxury and proper family run guest houses. I booked the Kasererbraeu as part of our honeymoon in Austria because it claimed to be a 4 star hotel (luxury guaranteed I thought) and offered a couples' package. What a rip-off. This is a run-down hotel that is not well maintained. breakfast time is reminiscent of feeding time at the zoo (except the food is less palatable here). We couldn't even find anywhere to sit!!! I won't even go in to our so-called 'suite' which, apart from the new bathroom, was run down and in need of decoration and a decent bed. nothing was properly cleaned ..
I could go on. I wouldn't have minded any of this if it hadn't been for the extortionate price I paid for the privilege. 479 euros (this did include a mediocre meal and a mozart concert) and I had to pay for parking on top!!!! Needless to say I will be complaining to the Austrian board of hotels to double check their rating (a crap 3 star at best). Thanks for ruining the end of our honeymoon.

Room Tip: We booked a suite thinking it would be luxurious and high quality ... top tip - book elsewhere is lo...
