“It is worthy to be praised”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

We loved the Alstadhotel Kaserbrau. The staff are all very friendly and make you feel right at home from the time you walk in the door. This is a beautiful old hotel situated just below the gorgeous white Hohensalzburg Castle. We stayed in a very comfortable suite which was tastefully decorated to fit with the style of the hotel. Breakfast was included in our rate. European style breakfast including boiled eggs, scrambled, bacon. sausages, cheeses, breads, cold meats, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juices etc etc. Really lovely. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Salzburg without hesitation.

Arrived at this hotel after staying in Vienna. Upon arrIval was greeted by non smiling staff exception of one, who was lovely. Given room that had a bed that Heidi would have loved as a child! Went downstairs asked for another room, was given a large double room with comfy bed and white linen for extra euros per night. After that all was great! Location perfect, room large and clean, views stunning. Breakfast varied and generous. Lots of tour material on hand, reception will book everything you need. Wi-fi only in lounge area so not very private if you have to use theirs. Lots of cafes and restaurants around the corner. . Was there for 3nights. Salzburg fabulous and my lovely quiet room meant I didn't care about anything.

Room Tip: If you don't like the room ask at reception they will accommodate.

If you want a traditional hotel in a good location for a fair price with breakfast, this is a good choice. The rooms match the area, however the bathroom has been nicely updated. There is a small parking lot right around the corner from the hotel. Wifi is free but only available in the lobby. We loved Salzburg and the Xmas markets. If we ever go back I'd chose a different a hotel for a different experience. I would however eat in the attached Italian restaurant again - the food was amazing! Also, great little soap shop across the street from the hotel.

How this hotel has a four star rating is a mystery since it is three star at best and in many respects two star. From the outset the man serving on reception was chaotic ,rude and unhelpful . We planned to stay three nights but checked out after one and on checkout were told that the receptionist was simply filling in .But despite this we would not have stayed as apart from the bathroom, the hotel is unrennovated and the decor is a tasteless mish mash of odd furniture, crammed with tizzy nick nacks and our room reeked of stale cigarette smells despite claiming it was a non smoking room ! In short the hotel had a distinct amateurish quality about it .

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel altogether

I was given a very small typical Mozart-like room at this hotel.I guess no one knew either I was six foot tall or a midget...but there are rules concerning the square meters attributed to a standard 3 stars or more European hotel and, according to them, you will have to pay a higher price. Apart from this, breakfast is great, so are the people working there and the location is really fantastic.

Room Tip: Ask first for a large one with a normal sized bed if you get nervous in small places and are a gian...

This hotel is in a fantastic location--right in the heart of the city so it makes it very easy to walk to any of the sites or just wander about taking it all in. The property is also charming-classic "old world" European property!

Room was spacious and the bathroom had been recently updated. The bathroom was also very spacious, considering this is an older hotel (not something you find a lot when staying in these older places!). While there wasn't any a/c (and I am a fan of the a/c, known for nixing a property for not having it!), the provided fan kept it plenty cool! Little bit of street noise, to include people making their way home at the wee hours of the morning, but it is a city, so it is to be expected!

Breakfast was fantastic--a good assortment of food and I didn't leave hungry.

I was most impressed by the friendliness of the staff. From check-in, to breakfast to everything in between, we were greeted with kindness and attention. I even watched the staff patiently deal with "ugly Americans" and their demands!

We stayed three days at this hotel. The hotel has a perfect location, right at the beginning of the tourist area making it a short walk to everything but away from crowds. It is a short ride from the train station (bus # 3, stop Mozartsteg). As for the hotel itself, it is a traditional European hotel that has not been updated to today's standards. The bathroom was very tired with water spraying out into all directions from the shower head. The room is a good size. The biggest pain is that there is no air conditioning. I am not a big fan of AC, but not having AC forces you t keep the windows open meaning that you hear several bells going off every 15 minutes, hear noisy passers by who had a few to many and hear road construction early in the morning. I did not get a good nights sleep during the three day stay. The wifi signal is not very strong even when you are in the lobby. You have to go into the lobby washroom area to get a strong signal.

Breakfast is good with a good variety of choices and serving trays are refilled without having to ask. The have a modern coffee machine that allows you to choose the coffee you want or they will serve you a pot of ordinary coffee. One thing that I appreciated is that they have a wonderful Wellness center with a steam-room, sauna, small exercise area and resting area. The only fault with the Wellness center is that it closes at 10 PM and you have to advise them 1 hour before use so they can turn everything on. This makes it difficult to use considering that you go out for supper and must give them an hour notice. This is probably why there were very few guests who took advantage of this service. I think that they should automatically turn the system on every night at around 6 or 7 PM so the place would be ready for evening use.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel for its great location and Wellness area as long as you know ahead of time that the price to be paid is a below. standard room. The price paid for the room also compensates forthe lower quality amenities.

Room Tip: A room at the back of the hotel is probably preferable to avoid noise at night.
