“a wink away from a four star hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

We found this hotel puzzling, because with a couple of simple things, it would be easily a 4 star hotel. We had the junior suite, which was done in Nantucket style neutrals, very clean lines with subtly amusingand sophisticated original prints on the walls Our room had some amenities you do not even find in most 4 star hotels here, such as the blessed tea maker with several herbal teas for a bedtime tisane, most welcome. An electric scale, to compare before and after the Sacher tortes...A wonderful shower that offered both soft rainfal and excellent handheld options...If they added a few welcome products, changed the little trash can to a new one that opens, added an IKEA magnifying mirror, maybe did a bit of touchup painting in a gentler shade than the grey in the bathrooms, I would give this hotel between a 4 and 5 star rating. The ladies who cleaned the rooms were delightful and added a soft pad to the bed as my curves and firm mattresses don't dance well together for sleeping..All with a smile. Late arrivals are difficult for the hotel, as it is family run and they're in bed early, but we had patient and excellent advice even before arriving on the phone about concerts, tours, the general area, again very friendly and professional. Nice touches, like a bowl of fresh apples in the lobby for anyone who needed a midnight something, were appreciated as well.

Room Tip: The '05 rooms are on the corner and with a view of the mountain just out the window, nice.

I had to overnight in Salzburg (a tiresome little city which I would have skipped altogether if I'd had a choice), and this comfortable and convenient hotel was just right. There was a decent breakfast included in the price and the room was comfortable and very clean, if a little sterile. In the summer, there is an outdoor patio which was closed owing to the time of year, but looked like a nice spot to have a drink. The owners were hospitable and friendly and spoke excellent English. They also offered a lot of really helpful advice and didn't mind at all to take their time to answer my questions. The hotel is in a great location, out of the way enough to be quiet at night but within ten minutes of the walking district where all the shops and restaurants are. Also, there is a great restaurant (Die Weisse) just down the street (the service and welcome there was quite a bit colder, but you should go once to enjoy the great food and make reservations in advance). The bus stop for the airport is about a five minute walk away. All in all, a really good value for the money (62 euro per night, b/fast and internet with your own PDA included). The towels and bedding were cotton and really nice (not always the case in this level of hotel).

Room Tip: I was on the top (third) floor. Very quiet and very comfy bed.

Very good situation, near the rail station, and very near to the city center. Little and familiar hotel, with very cosy rooms, free wifi in the room, and breakfast included. The staff is very friendly. The price is very affordable.

We enjoyed our one night stay at the Berglandhotel in Salzburg, especially with the helpful front desk staff. We were in Salzburg for the Christmas markets in particular and the staff were very helpful in getting us directions to all the right stops. The hotel isn't very centrally located in relation to the key sights, but you can get anywhere in the city in about 15 min walking so it's not too bad. We especially appreciated the comfortable beds, plentiful breakfasts, and wifi!

Clean, warm, stylish, comfortable - I really enjoyed my two nights here! Travelling solo at this point so appreciated the warmth and hospitality of the four different reception staff (which included the owners who were both delightful). Everyone was great in their own way. Helpful advice on Salzburg sites and how to get there. Lent me an umbrella (which I needed for most of my stay!) and helped me work out dry routes and activities. Breakfast was divine - especially the plums with a hint of brandy! Would definitely stay here again. Thanks to everyone at Berglandhotel for lovely memories of Salzburg!

Couldn't imagine a better place to stay in Salzburg. Very cool design (the owner is a stage set designer and it shows with very imaginative room layout and design.) Convenient to new and old town. Windows that open out onto the Alps and a fabulous breakfast. Very friendly staff. Parking was a big plus. You would love his place as we did.
