“Great Pool & Steam Room - Friendly Staff - Very Big Family Room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2007

This Hotel is full of Character and not the usual hotel chain. The staff were most helpful and friendly, couldn't have done more for us. Hotel Spa and pool very very good and like others we appreciated the free cool juice. Hotel also very well located and found it very quiet. Family room was simply enormous by any standards. Be sure to book dinner at the "Zum Fiedler Affen" just 10 minutes away - great value, great menu and great food. Recommended by barman in the hotel and lived up to recommendation. Some carpets in hotel need to be replaced but this is a small quibble in a hotel we enjoyed so much and will re-visit again. Breakfast great, not least because nothing was too much trouble for staff. Also only 10 minutes from main train station.15 minutes to old town through streets that are a joy of small shops. Totally recommended.

The high points were the new spa, which is beautiful (the pool is small but there is a current to swim against), steam room, sauna, relaxation room. I liked the fresh juices served in the spa, and it was very relaxing. The bedroom was standard, though very clean, and there was some street noise. The hotel was unairconditioned, though there are fans. It got a bit hot, since I was there during a heat wave. It wasn't quite as well insulated as the second old very thick walled hotel I stayed in, so it was really necessary to keep the fan on all night. The breakfast and breakfast rooms were very nice. There was fresh-squeezed orange juice, which seemed to be dilluted a little, on request and some lovely bakery-fresh Austrian pastries, vegetables, cheeses. I stayed in the main building and not in the annex, which is accross the street. The location of the hotel is good. I had a quite pleasent experience overall.

We had seen mention of the Wolf-Dietrich in Rick Steeves AUstria tourguide and called them from Germany. They had only one room left, in their annex, but it was the best room we had in our month stay in Europe. The room was spotless and roomy; the staff were very helpful, and the included breakfast was excellent. The only detriment was the lack of an elevator in the annex, but the staff were very obliging in carrying up our heavy bags. Great pool and free internet services, as well as a lovely lounge for relaxing and a superb location. Would DEFINITELY recommend it and would stay there again.

  • Liked — cleanliness and convenience as well as friendliness/helpfulness of staff
  • Disliked — lack of elevator in annex

We just returned from a trip to Austria and wanted to recommend the hotel Wolf Dietrich to other families.
We had a lovely family room, spacious and clean with very comfortable bedding. The hotel had little added touches like complimentary coffee and tea with snacks in the late afternoon (in addition to a healthy and plentiful breakfast).
There was even a lovely indoor spa to relax in at the end a busy travel day.
The kind ahd helpful staff treated us so nicely. They were understanding and accomodating when we had made a mistake during our booking. This showed true professionalism.
I recommend this hotel to all travelors ready to explore Salzburg.

What a nice place! Very attractive lobby, with a small bar and tables and chairs. A nice breakfast room with a great selection of foods and attentive staff. A wonderful spa and pool in the lower level. Our room was great, too, but the twin bed (our room was a triple with a queen size bed and a twin that was more like a converted sofa) was not too comfortable. There was a computer in the lobby that guests could use for free. Everything else was very nice, and the location was great--walking distance to everything, even a pleasant walk across the Salzach River to the Getreidegasse. Quiet street. Near shopping and restaurants. The price was great for what we got. Would definitely stay there again.
One of the clerks at the front desk (who was there when we arrived) was not very professional or welcoming, but the rest of the staff was helpful and well-informed. We were able to buy tickets for the Sound of Music bus tour at the front desk and a mini-bus picked us up right at the hotel and took us to the tour bus a short distance away. Short cab ride from train station.

I travelled extensively for over a month in Europe and The Wolf-Dietrich was the best hotel I stayed in for the money!
First, the hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of all the major attractions in Salzburg. The Wolf-Dietrich's staff welcomed me to the hotel, gave me information about the sights and tours available and checked me in with a warm smile. In the two days I was at the hotel, every single staff member I encountered acknowledged me and asked me if I was fine and if I needed anything. The room, although small, was quite functional and clean and was tastefully decorated. The room had cable TV and DVD and a stocked minibar. The hotel ammneties, including an excellent breakfast, a luxurious spa and indoor pool were up to par with a five star hotel. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone travelling through the beautiful city of Salzburg. A note for the pampered North American- the hotel room was not airconditioned, however it did have a fan and the nights in Salzburg are cool enough to leave the window ajar and enjoy a good night sleep.

  • Liked — The ammeneties and the staff.
  • Disliked — No air conditioner in room

I stayed at the Hotel Wolf-Dietrich, with my now wife, and both our families between 30th May and 4th June as we got married on friday 1st June at the Mirabell. Everyone was overwhelmed by everything about the hotel. They made us all feel special from the moment we arrived, to the point that no-one wanted to leave and come home.
We did not stay in the residence but in the main hotel. The breakfast was superb and there is a wonderful spa downstairs. There is even a small children's playroom which is attached to the family rooms.
Our warmest wishes and heartfelt thanks to everyone at the hotel for helping to make this a wonderful celebration.
We cannot recommend it highly enough.
