“Friendly Service, Good Hotel for Families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2009

We stayed at the hotel during an Easter visit to Austria. We arrived before 1pm, but had no trouble checking immediately into our room. They offer parking close by (5 minute walk) for 13 Euros per day at a public parking garage. We stayed in one of the Family Rooms across the street in the Hotel Annex, and the family room was the main reason for choosing the hotel. It had two bedrooms, one double bed, and one room with 2 twin beds. Nice room, good bathroom, great shower. The room faced the street, but we did not hear much as Wolf-Dietrich Strasse is a side street and fairly quiet. Upon seeing our child, they mentioned to us about free use of a large selection of DVD's in the lobby, which included children's titles. While we were not in Salzburg to stay in and watch TV, and the weather was great, that was a nice gesture that would have come in handy on a rainy day. The hotel also has a spa area with a small indoor pool (~25 x 12 feet). It was great for our child to play in after a day in the city, and refreshing for me too. The spa / pool area in the basement of the hotel is very nicely done. The hotel has a mix of comfortable outdoor sofas and tables set up on the sidewalk outside the hotel too. It was a great place to relax with a glass of wine. The included breakfast was a buffet and had a good mix of hot and cold food, fresh breads, and fruits, and eggs and meat too.

Overall, 215 Euros a night for the family room was fair, not a great deal but not too much. What made it great was that everything about the hotel was positive, the people, the pool, the room, etc. We would stay here again.

We stayed in the Papageno Suite and it was wonderful!! We celebrated our wedding anniversary while we were there and we could not have asked for a more romantic, fun room. I don't want to spoil the surprise for future guests but with its free standing bath, huge decorated bed, and drapes hanging everywhere, you cant go wrong!!!
Fantastic location also. Breakfast is good and the staff are friendly. Everything was soooo easy.......

We ate in St Peters (oldest restaurant in europe) and although this has received mixed reviews from trip advisor's, we had an absolutely fantastic meal with superb service. We did not go for the concert upstairs, but had a peak .... beautiful room but more intimate dinner down stairs.
We used Panorama Tours for Sound of Music Tour (had booked it previously online)and really enjoyed this - its a must really!!
Loved the bar in the Goldener Hotel, poor service in the roof top bar in Hotel Stein, but we had a truly wonderful time in Salzburg. It is a beautiful city, great people and fantastically romantic!!

We really liked this hotel. Friendly and helpful staff, great location and superb spa area.

Tips
- get the no.2 bus from Salzburg airport - it is so cheap and easy and drops you off virtually outside the hotel
- we bought the 72 hours Salzburg card for 35 euros which must have saved us a fortune. It gets you into all the museums, public transport (including the airport bus - you can buy it when you arrive at the airport) in and around the city.
- we used the card for the cable car up Untersberg mountain which you can reach via the no.25 bus outside the Mirabell gardens. Amazing views (on a clear day!)
- we enjoyed The Mozart Dinner Concert (at St Peter), which cost 48 euros. Nice three course meal with very entertaining Mozart snippets in between courses. Bear in mind that you will be sharing a table with others - each table sits about six - unless you pay for the gourmet meal where you will get a private table for two. We booked it through the hotel, but if we had booked it in person with the restaurant we would have got a 10% discount with the Salzburg Card.
- We booked The Sound of Music tour at hotel reception. The tour company was Panorama and they were very good - informative, professional tour guide and well organised. You are picked up directly from the hotel. You have to pay in cash for the tours.
- Bear in mind that quite a few of the museums close on Mondays, which meant we missed a few we wanted to see. I would advise you check this out if you have particular places you want to see

Have a great time!

We went with the family, expecting a family room. We were delighted to find a split level arrangement, with double bed and en suite above and spacious lounge with sofa bed and single bed, plus another bathroom, below, and TV's in both rooms - the main one with DVD (with a wide choice of free DVD's). Plus views over the city and mountains beyond.
We were in the annex. Across the quiet street was the main hotel, with spa in the basement, complete with pool, sauna, steam room etc - all spotless and beautifully designed.
The inclusive breakfast was superb, with a large variety of organically produced food and drink.
The location was good too, not in the heart of the medieval town but within easy walking distance, just off a pedestrianised street with great restaurants which leads doen to the river. The staff were also very friendly and helpful.
The only problem might be that in the annex where we were there are no lifts and lots of stairs.

Be sure to stay here for a perfect holiday in Salzburg. it's conveniently situated off pedestrianised Linzergasse- where the locals shop. A five minute walk takes you to Mirabelle Platz for city tours or across the bridge to the Old Town sights.
All the hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The organic breakfast sets you up for the day. Our superior , very spacious twin rooms were beautifully decorated. The circular bath tub with ever changing star like ceiling dimmed lights made for a relaxing soak or if you prefer you can visit the sauna and pool downstairs. Free afternoon tea, coffee and delicious cakes were served daily in the bar /foyer from 3- 6pm.. This is where guests mingled and chatted about the days events. Rudi, the very efficient barman was always on hand to share his local knowledge and tips about where to go and even where not to go!
For Sunday worship and 1960's Latin mass experience go to St. Sebastion's Church nearby-- after which you can visit Mozart's family grave in the cemetery. In Linzergasse area visit restaurants e.g. "The Fox "& "The Monkey" for hearty Austrian fare. Be sure to climb the 300 plus steps for a walk & view on Capuchin hill. This is where Mozart composed " The Magic Flute" Later don't miss a concert in the Mozarteum Hall followed by a visit to Sacher cafe for lunch and apple strudel

We were in the annexe (Residenz Hotel), the rooms were a good size but it had no lift - we were on the fourth floor. Staff did take our bags up but would have like flexibility of lift. Also being in the annexe meant we were less likely to use spa as either had to change at spa or cross street in dressing gown!
As the lift in main building was also out of order due to maintenance for the 2 nights we were there we did not bother to ask for room swap.

Rooms had DVD player and a large selection of free films in reception.

What made this hotel stand out though was the friendly service. Happy to make reservations for us and when we mentioned in passing that one meal booking was for my wife's birthday we were suprised at breakfast with a glass of champagne and rose petals. Also free cake and coffee each afternoon and free internet in reception.

Also good location just across the river from the Old Town.

Although the room (family suite in the main building) was fairly spartan, the hotel was a great value. The pool and spa were wonderful for the entire family and the DVD collection was great for the kids. The hotel staff was always very kind and helpful. This really distinguished them from the rest. Breakfast was very nice as well with good organic and vegetarian options.

Value was outstanding if you are looking for a well-located hotel. Nothing fancy, to be sure, but a solid, comfortable, family-friendly place. We would come again.
