“Great hotel in a great location to explore Salzburg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

Hotel Wolf Dietrich is a great hotel. We got a room in the main building. There are also rooms in a building across the street. We booked a "cosy double room" and were expecting a small room but were pleasantly surprised by the size. The room was reasonable size with a big double bed. The breakfast was lovely with good selection of breads, cheese, cold meats, yogurts and hot bevs. The reception staff were very friendly. Parking is close by the hotel in an underground garage, approximately 5 minutes walk. The hotel is located just off Linzergasse street which is a lovely pedestrianized street dotted with cafes and boutique shops. We ate in Wasserfall restaurant (on Linzer gasse) 2 nights during our stay! I would highly recommend it for food and good wine. The Altstadt is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Also if you intend on visiting a number of the sights in and around the city i highly recommend the Salzburg card which allows at a cost of 35 euro for 2 days (24 euro 1 day) allows access to most of the main sights in the city and outskirts.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main hotel building instead of a room in the residenz across the street.

Nice decor, huge bed, romantic, not too hot even in summer, nice people, decent breakfast, and lots of good features we didn't get to try, including a bath, spa and DVD collection.
Wi-fi was a bit patchy but otherwise everything was fantastic until it got extremely loud and rowdy from the courtyard below in the night and seemed to stay that way for hours. We later realised the shutters weren't completely closed so it probably would have been quieter, but overall felt like we must be in a bad location because it's not like it was right above the centre of the city - there was no explanation for why it would be so disruptive for over half the night.

We were assigned to the annex building across the street, on the top floor. Elevator only reached the floor below and having to cross the street every day to talk to the front desk and to eat breakfast was not something we had in mind for a four star property. The lighting in the bathroom was a little too dim. Finally, parking, at 15 Euros a day, was 3 blocks away.
However, those things aside we enjoyed the location and the hot and cold breakfast. The room was nicely done and the staff were very pleasant.

Two buildings, main and one across the street. Take the main, if you wish to use the SPA area, you will not have to cross the street for it. Antique room, antique style, clean, nice. Not top hotel, average, but good enough. No parking in the hotel. They will send you to the nearest parking inside the mounting, about 300 meters away, but it was for free. Nearby good restaurant - Alter Fux. Every quater hour you may hear church clock. Once every 15 min, twice every half hour, three times every 45 min.

We stayed here during Festival. The location was great, the staff were nice but the room was the most absurd room I've ever seen. The person who designed it must have been on LSD. We were "upgraded" to the Papagano Suite. It had a huge indoor tree dominating the room with 3 foot parrots on the bedpost and in the tree. There was a free standing large tub which was frankly dangerous to get in and out of without falling and NO SHOWER. The lighting system was terrible. The room was designed to be whimsical but was basically not designed to stay in for more than one night. We asked to be moved but no rooms were available. We heard another couple loudly complaining about their room and I think they left the hotel. The regular rooms we saw looked OK and I think if we had one of those we would have been happier because otherwise the hotel was at least average or above average.

Recently stayed two nights here during an Alpenstrasse road trip. We were in the separate building across the street from the main building. The room was finished very nicely with a great sense of style and finish. Working a/c, mini fridge, tv, good wifi. There's also a liquor store/wine bar right around the corner that's open until midnight.

The breakfast buffet was very good and included with our room. They had a good selection of basic hot/cold breakfast items, including eggs and sausage.

The parking was about 2 blocks away in a public lot as the hotel is in a pedestrian zone. The hotel does charge you for parking but at least provides the in/out pass for you. You can also drive down the pedestrian road and park for a short period to unload the car. The lot is less than 5 minutes walk and not a big deal.

We spent a day in Salzburg, and used this as a base for a day trip to Konigssee and Berchtesgaden. Salzburg is a beautiful city, and the drive to Konigssee is very worthwhile to see a stunning and untouched lake. Don't miss the farm fresh lunch of chees, bread, bacon, milk and beer at the little farm near Salet during the lake cruise.

Definitely recommend this place in Salzburg's old town. Very easy walking and a wonderful room.

Thanks.

The location of the hotel is great - walking distance to many places of interest... walking distance to the old town of Salzburg. However, I got a room that was very stuffy - no ventilation and even though there was a fan provided in the hotel room, it did not really help. Maybe it was during summer when I was there - 32 degrees celsius, which explains why the room was stuffy, dry and hot. I'm sure the lack of cool air-conditioning will not be a problem if the temperatures are lower.
The breakfast provided every morning was good though - I really enjoyed it. I think this hotel is good if you want a good location and if you're not planning to stay in Salzburg for too long. I was here for 3 days. I love Salzburg, but the hotel was okay only.
