“Not 4 star, very average.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012 via mobile

Like a lot of other people have said this is not a 4 star hotel. Check in was good, the girl at reception was very nice and helpful. We had a junior suite, big room, bed was great. Room was looking tired. There were no complimentary....anything! Like other 4 star hotels. Breakfast was very good though. At check out we paid by credit card but got told we couldn't sign for it, we had to use the pin, which we have never had to do before, the woman was not very helpful with this said the machine says if its sign or pin and she can't change it. This should be a 3 star hotel.

Being unfamiliar with Salzburg and getting in late in the day, we drove along the waterfront looking for a hotel. After finding none and driving around town a little longer we stumbled upon Hotel Neutor. At first glance, it appeared to be in the middle of nowhere. The hotel itself looked like a time capsule; something right out of the 70s with photographs of opera singers and performers hanging all around the lobby. I'm not certain when it was built, but it hasn't been updated in a while and could stand to be renovated. The rooms were standard/basic rooms. They were nothing fancy, but clean and had everything a traveler needs, including cable TV and free WiFi. The staff was exceptional as was the included breakfast. The best part was the hotel itself was only a three to five minute walk to the old town. Walk out the front door, walk through the tunnel, and one is in old town.

We selected this hotel off the internet after we found that the Salzburg Card for accommodation must be booked well in advance. We found the Neutor to be a budget hotel rating between two and three stars, we actually stayed in the annex across the road and the only inconvenience was that we had to cross the street again for breakfast. While the room was only ordinary, it was quiet and only a short walk to the city through the tunnel. We stayed three nights. The staff were pleasant and helpful and breakfast adequate.

Room Tip: This hotel had a lift so stairs are not a concern

I don't know who rates these hotels but, in this case, they definetly need new eye glasses. I would be generous if I gave it two stars. The rooms are small, the bed was like sleeping on rocks and the room smelled badly. I checked with a few other travellers and their comments were similar. The hotel location was great and the staff friendly but that's about all I could say on the positive side. There is no security at this hotel, so hang on to your belongings VERY closely.

“My wife and I with five other couples recently undertook a private four week tour of central Europe. This is our fifth European trip in the last seven years. Our itinerary included a four night stay at the Hotel Neutor, a four star designated hotel in Salzburg. After our experience we believe that this rating needs to be downgraded.
The staff were always friendly and helpful, however the rooms were very small with nowhere to put suitcases other than on the floor which further reduced the miniscule available floor area. We have stayed in inner city hotels in Paris, Rome and London and this room size was the smallest we have ever seen. Our group approached reception to seek relocation to larger rooms which appeared to be available in the annex over the road. One couple were given a door entry card to a room which had not been made up after the previous guests.
None of the hotel rooms had an English speaking BBC World or CNN TV channel, the only hotel to lack this basic service in our whole trip.
The rooms reeked of an indescribable odour.
The breakfast was served in a small restaurant where the only available fruit was from a bowl of apples.
One of the couples from our group returned to their room after a days sight seeing to find it had not been made up since the night before.
Two other couples returned to their rooms after a day out to find that the old bathroom towels had been removed but not replaced with new ones.
Another couple returned to find that their door entry card no longer worked. Reception advised them it was because they had checked out, obviously they hadn’t !
The hotel thus was thus poorly managed for a four star hotel”
We certainly would not recommend this hotel to anyone expecting four star accommodation

That about says it all for my experience staying at this dive, dump, deplorable place. Someone had their passport/wallet stolen right out from under them during breakfast. Another person has items stolen from their room ... the list goes on and on. Do yourself a huge favor and stay away from this place!!!

Room Tip: Find another place to stay in Salzburg! Anywhere else will do!

We had booked three rooms for four days. This is not a cheap hotel by any imagination, though it was centrally located. On the last day (Aug.28 2012) I and my daughter were in the breakfast room, with hardly a handful of guests. . She had her wallet stolen there, She used her credit card that morning and was sure had the wallet with her. After a thorough futile search we complained to the front desk, the staff advised us to leave the relevant info and would contact the police herself. As we had to travel to Vienna that morning (already late by three hours by now) we took the offer.Later when my daughter went in person two days later found out that the police complaint was never given. In spite of the fact that her mother in law lives in Salzburg the callous behaviour of the hotel staff enraged and disgusted me.

On the second day we were getting ready for a wedding reception there were no towels in our room, had to scramble from the other room. Response, ran out of towels. In the night they bring two huge bathrobes ( I am a petite person).
Think twice before you rate them.
