“Excellent experience, location and staff great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

We stayed in a junior suite on the top floor with a garden terrace---a lovely aspect, in the building across from the main office and it suited us perfectly. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable and the desk staff very helpful. We definitely recommend this and will stay here again.

Room Tip: A junior suite on top floor with garden terrace

We stayed at Neutor for 2 days. The hotel is composed of two separate buildings on a road. when you get late in the night you just need to insert your room card to open the gate.By the way is is very unconvenient that nobody is there to help at the reception!! amazing, if you need something you must walk on the other side of the street to see the reception staff even if you have a phone in the room. This is just 5 minutes walk for the old town, passing an old tunnel. we were not located in the main hotel, so I can not tell how the rooms were in the other one. The halls on the first floor were quite depressing and the room was very basic, but clean. the lights didn't work well, the radietor didn't make hot enough and in the first night we were really cold, plus in the wardrobe there were not coverts so we had to ask for them. there was a tv and hair dries as facilities.the bathroom was poor: there were little towels and it was so cold! The breakfast room was good, clean and nice and there was a buffet with everything there (hand made sweets fresh every morning, cereals and tutti-frutti and marmelades. beverage had tea and milk- but not hot milk- coffee and orange juices. there was even salt as bread-many kinds- and toasts and ham, salami, cheese, eggs and fried egges with bacon) and the lady in there is very nice, police and kind. the reception staff was kind and helpful and the taxi are fast and not expencive (about 11 euros to the airport). we had internet free and I was able to print my boarding pass luckly. so, I would say that the hotel has a quite good staying but for that price it did not satisfy us at all!

Small rooms with strange wall fluorescent lights. Mold in the bathroom. Stained carpets. Even the walls are dirty and in a desperate need of paint. Wireless works. Lobby smells like Chinese restaurant. Location and friendly staff are the only positives.

CHECK IN - CHECK OUT
I arrived to Salzburg at 4 am. Previously I have sent an email to the staff to tell them that I will arrive at that hour and surprisingly the staff was there when I arrived at 4.15 am. The check in and check out hours are quite standard and is 24h. I am saying this, because most of the hotels in Salzburg have check in hour at 2 or 3 pm, while this hotel has at mid day. Also most of the hotels do not do check in 24h, just at specific period.
LOCATION
The location is just great, you have to walk 5 min and there you go, you are in the city center which is considered as UNESCO heritage.
BREAKFAST
The breakfast is really good and is served from 7 am to 10 am. You have basically a buffet with a variety of cheese, ham and bread. Beverages include: Coffee, tea, orange juice, hot chocolate, lemon juice. You can get scrambled eggs, bacon, yogurt, cereals, cake, etc. Really good.
WIFI
The hotel has Wifi and is included in the price of the room. Do not expect a really fast internet but something enough to browse addresses, weather, news, etc.
Highly recommended!!!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2011

The hotel was clean and convenient : just 5 minutes walk through a well-lit tunnel to the town centre. It was slightly down-hill going, and very steep coming back...funny that! The reception staff were all most friendly and helpful, and all spoke good English. Breakfast was superb: lovely fresh food, attractively laid out, and well-supervised by Helga! The same dishes every day, but there was so much choice that this was no problem.
We were there in October and it was really warm weather. Our room was at the front of the hotel, facing south but without air-conditioning, and opening the window for coolness made the room noisy and a bit smelly from traffic fumes. There was a fan, but still it made us think that in a real heat-wave the room would be quite uncomfortably hot. Otherwise the room was fine, with a good-size bathroom, and even a separate loo!
Word of warning for Salzburg ; we found that the restaurants closed quite early, stopping serving food at about 9 pm. The Mozart cafe wouldn't serve us the Austrian speciality pudding, as it took 20 minutes to prepare and we ordered it at 8,45! So we left, and found the best place to order coffee and cakes after 9 pm was McDonalds!! They had a "posh" end near the street and we finished our evening meal there!
However, Chinese and Italian restaurants stayed open much later. Ask at Reception for details of some quite near the hotel.
Altogether a lovely trip. Salzburg is a delight, and we found people very welcoming and friendly. Read my heading for a summary of the hotel!

But you can't beat the location. The lobby looks nice but that's about it. Staff was helpful. Definately not worth its 4 star rating if you don't expect too much you won't be disappointed!

Best thing about this hotel is its location - walking distance from Old Town Salzburg - and its staff, which was very helpful. Overall I found the hotel rooms a bit worn, the internet/wi-fi access intermittent at best, and the buffet breakfast good. We paid 110 euro/nite which was pricey compared to other hotels on our trip but not bad value in Salzburg, where everything is expensive.
