This hotel closed in 2006 or 2007 and over the past five years a number of unsuccessful attempts have been made to find a new investor. A planned re-opening early in 2012 never happened.

It was indeed a great place and for a while the Kobenzl was regarded as one of the top hotel in Salzburg.
If you are looking for a quality hotel (with very good restaurant) a little outside of the city and with great views and walks I would recommend to check out the Romantikhotel Die Gersbergalm. As we own a house in Salzburg we never stay in hotels and only ever use restaurants and on a number of visits this one was excellent.
The hotel is located very near the Kobenzl

Very comfortable with friendly staff and outstanding food. I would go back anytime. It was very tempting to stay in the hotel all day and only look at Salzburg from a distance. The halfboard option for meals is a good deal. Food at hotel better than anything you would get for same price in town. The view is priceless.
Taxi to town tedious; didn't try bus. I would rent a car next visit for daytrips around the area.
The hotel is a little worn, but I did not mind. Everything worked and the staff was very nice.

Dear Reader, The Kobenzl is really a great hotel. The view is spectacular the food -- very good. To get to town, the desk will arrange a taxi -- fairly reasonable price. We stayed with two very young children. Lots to do. The desk is very good at booking excursions -- we did the "Sound of Music Tour", the "Luge and Salt Mines" (in Germany, sounds wierd, but lots lots of fun!), went to the Mozart concerts and visited the castle. Great food and shopping in town. Take a ride round the city in the horse carts for hire. Terrific ice cream! Overall this is a great vacation. Also the owner at the Kobenzl is a lovely lady who knows you and your family and aims to please! I felt welcomed!

My boyfriend and I stayed here in December. We were visiting to go to the Xmas markets. I was slightly put off about the hotel when I read the review saying " not for young people" As me and my other half are both in our early 20's.
We flew with Ryanair, got a morning flight so there were no delays. We got a taxi to the hotel which cost around £15, as it was approx 20minute a drive. Our taxi driver pointed to a mountain and said to us, " your hotel is up there, you must be millionares to be staying there" Wow, we were so excited.
We were met by staff, and given a cup of Gluwein straightaway, then into the breakfast room for a lovely brekkie.
The accomodation was lovely and as we stayed during midweek we had the place practically to ourselves. You get your own towelling robe and slippers, we wandered around the place going on the sunbeds, swimming in the amazing indoor pool which was nestled in the mountains, drinking as much fruit tea as you like and just simply chilling out.
I celebrated my birthday there, and in the morning I was given a little birthday cake and candle by staff, and everyone sung happy birthday. It was really sweet!
We mainly got taxis from the hotel which cost around £6 one way. We got the bus on one occasion they come every hour in December, it was about £3.
The hotel is definatly out of the way but if you want to relax and unwind after shopping it is great, and we stayed there for 5 days which I think is too long, 3 nights is fine.
Also check out there webcams for the view!

My wife and I stayed here on the last week of March and out expectations were met by this amazing hotel.

Location- 15 minutes from Salzburg, costs about 20 euros from airport and 15 euros from city center. Located on a mountain with probably one of the best views overlooking salzburh and the alps. We tried many time to reproduce our views on camera but nothing could beat the real thing. Make sure you pay a bit extra for this view.
The bus that passes the hotle in the morning comes at 11 am and returns from town at 200 pm so it is better to pay for a taxi.

Check- in- We were allowed an early check in at about 11 am. Smooth and efficent. They always had a smile.

Room- Very classic decor but certainly has seen better days. Don't let this put you off. It was still amamzing.

Food- Brakfast was lavish with complimetary champagne to accomopany your smoked salmon. Nothing beats a good breakfast with a wonderful voew of Salburg.

Dinner- Make sur eyou book directly with the hotel as this is the cheapest way. And when you do, boo the half board option for 48 euros per person as it is excellent value for money if you want a lavish 5 course meal. It works out cheaper then taking a taxi into town if you are nto driving and the ffod was rich and delicous. We had all our dinners at this hotel although I am sure theer are other good restaurants in Salburg. On one night we omited the fish course as it was too much so we got 4 courses for 38 euros per person.

Drinks- Afforable. eURO 2.80 for a large beer and euro 6 for a glass of sprkling wine.

Service- Empeccable!!!Nothing was too hard for them and they made every effort to make you comfortable. Remember, quite a few head of states and royalties have stayed here and they made us feel the same. We even got a lift into town by the owner one morning as it was on his way. Very personalised service as expected for Small luxury hotel groups.

Leisure- We only tried the massage for 55Euros. We found the other things a bit expensive but they were definitely a proper spa with everything u want. Definitely worth a try if you are feeling lavish. The lady that woked theer does however try to sell you her products.

Price: A bit on the high side. We payed 200 euros low peak for a balcony room with its own living room. But it was worth it.

Summary: If you wnat someplace romatic with a great view and excellent food, this is your place. Although it is 15 min from town, it packages Salburg as city to enjoy for clutire and history as well as to retreat for some relaxation.

Tip: We did not use the salzburg card as we only visited mozart's birtplace and residence on the first day and the castle on the second. Walking around town is easy and you would probably not take the bus back to your hotel. If you want luxury in town, I noticed that the Sacher had a great location.

We just spent a night at the Kobenzl in Salzburg and would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel as a wonderful, romantic, 5 star getaway.

Located on a small mountain right outside Salzburg, the property offers stunning views of the city. There is a public bus to the hotel, but taking a taxi is an option too at about 12 to 15 Euro from downtown. The staff will pick you up from the airport or train station on request.

The room was lovely and had a very comfortable bed. We really enjoyed our private balcony. There was an abundance of fluffy, soft towels, and we were provided with bathrobes and slippers. My husband asked about purchasing flowers, and the most beautiful roses cut from the hotel's gardens were placed in the room at no charge.

There is a very nice indoor pool, surrounded by glass that slides open onto sun terraces protected from the wind, just as good or better than an outdoor pool. We did not use the spa, but it looked very nice.

The restaurant offers great food and spectacular views from the terrace. The breakfast buffet is a feast with lots of different options!

What made this place special though was the staff. They are very attentive and friendly, really making guests feel welcome as family. The service was truly excellent.

We would love to go back and take friends and family there.

hotel kobenzl is a relaxing 5-star hotel set 'high on a hill' overlooking the beautiful city of salzburg with the Alps as a back-drop. the deluxe rooms are well worth the supplement as the view from our balcony was breathtaking every time we looked out! The owners and their staff are very friendly and from the moment we arrived we were treated like part of the family.
Food at the hotel is also 5-star and is made all the more special by the stunning views from the large picture windows in the restaurant. There is a good-sized indoor swimming pool although you feel as if you are bathing in the Alps as it is surrounded by large windows overlooking the meadows and the mountains beyond.
The hotel is some distance outside Salzburg and you do need a taxi although the local bus is cheap and reliable and stops right outside the hotel. This bus will drop you in Mirabell gardens which is a good central place to start your sightseeing.
We would definitely return to this hotel because of its friendliness, cleanliness, and because of its quiet location and unparalleled views of Salzburg.
