“Great Location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2010

A short cab ride from Salzburg main train station (approx 7 euro), the Hofwirt is at a great location. It's located at the end of a short pedestrian that leads straight into Salzburg Old town. The decor is very modern. The rooms were small but comfortable. Street noise would be an issue for some but did not bother us much. The breakfast was included in the room and was plentiful. They had a cappucino machine, breads, rools, hot and cold cereal, cheese and meat plates. Staff was helpful. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. A nice litlle hotel, convenient and comfortable.

Stayed one night - managed to get a parking space in their limited car park.

The hotel is 300m or so from the centre of town, so is just a shirt stroll to the sights, with plenty of restaurants along the way, so it could hardly be better located.

The hotel is designed in a full-on minimalistic style (lots of white - no decoration anywhere but for the odd painting), which made a change from the very traditional sort of dark, woody Austrian hotels you find everywhere. Receptionist helpful, and room just fine. No restaurant, but loads nearby.

A good choice for location and no fuss.

We booked this hotel through an online hotel broker and the price we received for a 3 star hotel in a European city couldn't be beat. The value was a very good deal. I certainly have more positive things to say about the Hofwirt than negative.

The positives about the hotel, were the price, the fantastic location which is hard to beat (at the end of the pedestrian street) and very friendly and caring staff from the front desk to the breakfast room staff to the cleaning staff. The room was very clean and functional. The breakfast was included with the room rate and we thought it was extremely good. There was a cappuccino machine, various teas, hot chocolate, breads, sweet goodies, hard boiled eggs, sliced cheese/meat, cereals and yogurt. The room was well attended to and when items became low, they were refilled and everything kept spotless. The restaurant and lobby have a modern feel and the cleaning staff keep both meticulously clean even during a snowfall. There is a computer in the bar/reception area for guest's use but there is also free wifi if you have your own laptop. The staff were friendly and caring. We arrived after a dreadful flight from Canada that had us missing our first night's paid room and arriving 24 hours later with no luggage. The staff seemed genuinely pleased and happy to inform us when our luggage did finally arrive on two separate mornings. Two of the three suitcases did not arrive until the morning we were to leave and we were grateful to receive them. The staff gave very good suggestions for purchasing immediate items that we required (we arrived the morning of Dec. 21st and left the morning of Dec. 24th). I can recommend if you need a department store in Salzburg if you arrive without luggage, C&A store which was great. Free parking if available at the hotel is also an incredible bonus in a European city.

Unfortunately, the negatives are that there is no sound proofing. You can hear hall noise, room noise and outside noise. However, this is an old building and it is Europe and sometimes you just have to overlook some things. One fix that is easy and the hotel could make would be to replace the mattresses. At least in our room, they were very, very uncomfortable and and a comfy mattress to sleep on would probably make most guests forget the room noise.

I guess the bottom line is that there were more positives for the Hofwirt than negatives and therefore I would not only return to this hotel, but I would recommend it to others.

Negatives: The room faced onto a busy road which was incredibly noisy and kept us awake. We asked to move but we were told there weren't any alternate rooms available. I was woken up on the first morning to the TV from next door through the paper thin walls. The room could only be described as an unfinished Ikea room with no litter bin and no kettle, for the price it was very bad value. I was with my husband and we were shocked and bemused to find two single beds pushed together in our 'double' room. We were told all double rooms were the same.

Plus points: We arrived by car after staying at great hotels around Europe. There was free parking available (although v small spaces). The location was very good only a few minutes walk to the old town. The staff were friendly enough and helpful.

This, slick, modern looking hotel was one to avoided.

Just as many others have said, this hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to the train station and town center. The rooms are spotless and comfortable... helpful staff and the continental breakfast is great. Perfect base camp. You can spend more elsewhere, but ...why? We would certainly recommend this hotel to others.
