“Clean, Good Breakfast and Convenient Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2011

The hotel was clean and located near the city centre. The breakfast was good, with sufficient choices. The hotel staff was helpful and friendly. Great value for money.

Stayed 3 nights and while the room was spotless, it was very very small and very very noisy due to the hotel being on a busy corner and, because of the road layout, the traffic has no other option but to go around the corner. The windows are double glazed and almost block the noise when closed but there is no ventilation unless the window is open, so we endured some stuffy nights. The breakfasts are generous with cereals, yoghurts, canned fruit, boiled eggs, various breads, cold meats and cheeses, sweet cake and lovely croissants. A great place to stay if you won't want to spent much time in the room but it would definately pay to ask for a room away from the road! It's a pleasant 10min walk to the old town.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face the road.

The range of reviews posted already address a number of issues and qualities of this hotel.
We stayed there for a couple of days and nights during the first week of January 2011, having enquired for the availability just the day before, asking for a quiet room.
The price was very good (eur 72/room/day +breakfast) compared with what we had found (available) in the immediate surroundings.
Room: faced the rear of the building and was quiet, wardrobe and shelves would be OK in summer time, but for a couple travelling 9-10 days here and there, in winter (it was -10°C outside!!) one could have to leave some stuff in the luggage. There was space for luggages, not in a wardrobe though, just in front of the bed. Furniture was essential, meaning: small desk on a corner, shelves for clothes and anything else in front of the bed, open, not inside a wardrobe, self-contained wardrobe, separate space for shoes. Can't recall if there was a TV. Wi-FI internet was available for free but we didn't use it.
Bathroom: large and comfortable, with a good shower, and adequately lighted.
Breakfast: yummy! and plenty! The hall where it can be enjoyed might resemble that of the student house or of a office-like cafeteria, but all in all is bright, the air is fresh (not that granted in some hotels) and it is spacious, i.e. if you are one of those feeling "grumpy" in the morning and like to have their breakfast quietly, on their own corner, then that's the place.
Position: very convenient and central, especially appreciated if you happen to have to come back there as your girlfriend (or you) forgot something!
Air conditioning: no idea about it in summer, as it was deep winter. The room was mildly heated, but probably we got not the best of the rooms from this point of view, as it was on one of the rear corners of the building, so it didn't get any sun and it had 2 side exposed to the -10°C outside.

Room Tip: No idea of how noisy a room facing the front side might get. I feel to recommend rooms at the back...

The hotel is located at an extremely busy intersection just before the pedestrian zone starts. This means many vehicles are travelling back and forth at all hours of the day and night. Due to the hot weather we could not close the window while we slept so we were subjected to the noisy bus/truck/car traffic until about 3 or 4am! We asked to switch to another room but they could not accommodate us. 2 sleepless nights made us too tired to sightsee during the day. Even with the window shut, we could hear the traffic. No air flow in the rooms at all. The reception area should be moved to the 3rd floor facing the traffic as the ground floor was much cooler. I considered sleeping in the lobby just to get some rest. WIll never return here. Room was very expensive at almost 140 euros/night for such a terrible experience. If they give you a room facing the street, ask for a room on the opposite side otherwise just cancel the reservation.

Room Tip: Don't stay here. If you have too because there is no other hotel available, ask for a quiet room...

Simply put the Hofwirt is a great deal if you are not a fussy traveler and don't like to spend all your vacation money on accommodation. If you want good service, a clean comfortable bed and a decent breakfast, the Hofwirt fits the bill.

The hotel is quite utilitarian, I would say one step above a hostel. All the flooring in the hotel is linoleum, no carpeting. If you like 4-star comforts you will only be disappointed and the hotel is not trying to be in that league. Yes, the rooms are extremely small but very clean and our beds were very comfortable, better than some more expensive hotels we have stayed in. Make sure to ask for a quiet room if you are bothered by noise as some of the rooms face the street.

The breakfast is a typical European continental meal with more than enough to satisfy most people, you are welcome to refill your plate as many times as you like. Great coffee machine that makes, espresso, lattes etc. The breakfast room is huge so there is always an available table.

Hotel is very well located for walking to all the interesting sites in Salzburg, being directly across from the pedestrian way into the Old CIty Centre.

As far as the staff were concerned we found them to be most pleasant and helpful, especially Mirella (not sure I' ve got the right spelling) who was always smiling and assisted us with a couple of good restaurant suggestions.

We were happy with the hotel and thought the price of 79 Euros including breakfast was a great deal.

We stayed in Hofwirt in the end of August for 8 nights. It's very nice hotel - very clean, staff is helpful, etc. - I can confirm past, positive reviews. We were with baby (6 months) and I asked about quiet room with baby bed - we got quite, huge room with windows to the courtyard, not to the street, so there was no problem with noise even with windows open. The hotel is not cheap, but good location compensates it.
I definitely recommend this place!

Best Regards
Martin

The hotel was excellently situated, immediately next to the pedestrianised part of central Salzburg - so all the sites were within walking distance, or a quick hop on the excellent trolley-bus. Everything was very clean - nothing fancy, rather like an upgraded hostel really, but we stayed in two twin rooms with our teenage children for 3 nights, and were very happy with it. Even though it was extremely hot - 35 degrees celsius one day - the rooms weren't unbearably hot, despite no air-conditioning. The receptionists were friendly and helpful, the breakfast buffet was fine (if nothing spectacular), and when our son was ill one day and couldn't go out sightseeing, they were very helpful about allowing us to take him some breakfast in the room. The only downside was that at night, with the windows open, it was very noisy from the street - not so much traffic, but late-night revellers shouting into the early hours. Apart from that, it was a good stay.

Room Tip: Request the newly-refurbished 'design' rooms.
