“Good hotel, nice experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2011

We stayed in this hotel for two nights starting Sept. 18. It’s a nice hotel, and just about 10 minutes walk from the main railway station. We stayed in room 603, which had a bit of a view of a distant castle and some roads, nothing extraordinary. The hotel is vast and didn’t seem to be brimming with people, except during breakfast hours. We were greeted at the check-in by a trainee, who did all the explanations quite well. The room is well appointed, spacious and they offered us free wi-fi use for 120 minutes. The room is big, has a nice LCD TV, comfortable bed, place to keep suitcase, a desk etc. The hotel staff were helpful whenever you had a question about the local region. It was raining quite heavily when we were there in Salzburg and the hotel staff was kind enough to lend us umbrellas every time we asked.

The only two minor issues we had were: 1.) I think they charged us additional 50% for laundry in the name of express service. They didn’t give it back in 3 hours as per the guidelines of their express service, but charged me 50% extra, although the laundry paper in the room said otherwise. 2.) Minor one -- We had to remind the hotel four times to get two mugs sent to our room.

The breakfast is nice and offers a wide spread. The staff are very helpful as well, although you can’t expect Asian service in Europe.
Access to travel within Salzburg isn;t a problem from this hotel at all. Everything is nearby. There is a Burger King, an Italian food outlet, a Subway, a Kebab place and McDonald's nearby as well.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor with a view of the castle.

We stayed 1 night here because we wanted to be close to the train station. It is just 2 blocks from the train station and there is a Migros, Mcdonalds, and Burger King a block away. The hotel is a conference center but was very quiet when we were there. Rooms are well equipped and comfortable. We walked to Mirabell Gardens and the Old City which is about 15 minutes. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights in September 2011. We booked the hotel as a 'mystery hotel' via lastminute.com - -somewhat apprehensive as we didnt know where we were staying until the confirmation was received.

The hotel is situated approx 2 minutes from the main bus station with a variety of small cafes, restaurants and fast food outlets (McD's/ B King) nearby. It takes maybe 15 minutes to walk to the Mirabell Gardens (kind of the gateway into the Old Town). The stroll is quite nice. We had heard from reviews that the area can be a little questionable at night - but we saw no problems and felt safe walking to and from the hotel both day and night.

The hotel is opposite a Casino and located near to an 'Erotic' club - but again, there was no noise or presence of dubious characters!

The accomodation (non-smoking doubel room) was excellent, spotlessly clean with good room service. We had food devilvered to our room on 1 no. occasion, which was excellent - although you do pay a 10 euro charge for this service. The hotel staff were polite, curtious and friendly on arrival and throughout our stay. The only bad thing which we could comment on is that the only English Channels available on the TV (large flat screen) are BBC World News, Bloomberg, CNN and something else.....so if news and finanicial climiates dont appeal to you - you may miss the TV during your stay!

We ate in the hotel restaurant - which although empty when we visited - provided excellent high-standard food. We only had breakfast on 1 day - which is buffet style, but with lots of choice (maybe alittle expensive, but you expect such prices when visiting a city like Salzburg).

In terms of the town, a must visit in the Augustinabrau (Brewery come all day drinker - run by the Monks). You can buy their home brew in 0.5l/ 1l steins and buy some local food from the various sellers. Other reviews will say how expensive this food can be and suggests taking a picnic with you (as the locals do), but for 8 Euro, you can get a good plateful and it avoids carrying food with you for the day. It opens between 3pm and 11pm.

We stayed here for one night with small children as we wanted to fully experience Salzburg on the way to our holiday the Austrian Alps.

The family room we stayed in was large and comfortable, however when we arrived there was some rubbish from the previous occupants left in the bathroom dustbin. Also before we left I was looking under the bed to find some lost toys and found a brown apple that had been left lying there.

It was extremely hot and humid the day we arrived and the air conditioning was not too well - functioning. The front desk staff was helpful and when we requested non-allergic duvets and pillows they were provided extremely quickly.

The location for us was very inconvenient. We had intended to walk to the old town which involved walking through a rather unpleasant, uninviting area, which is not recommended, especially with small children. There is another way to walk though, along the river, which is probably more pleasant.

Once you get to the bridge, you will start to experience the real charm of Salzburg and therefore I recommend someone who is coming for a short trip, just to experience the beauty of this charming city, to stay in a better area. We ended up taking a taxi back to the hotel which costed around 7-8 Euro.

All in all, a rather bland chain hotel, with decent, large rooms, but lacking charm and character.

The hotel was quiet and very clean. The staff was very helpful e.g. offering us an umbrella in the rain. The location is not in the main part of Salzburg (it is close to the train station) but most aren't. We did not have breakfast here but there is a nice food truck near the train station with pastries, coffee, juice etc.

I stayed in the hotel for 13 nights for business and had to repeatedly ask to have my room cleaned and it was never cleaned to my satisfaction. When I checked out the front desk tried to charge me 600 euros in extra fees, which i did until i stepped outside to check. The bill that the front desk gave me did added up to 200 euro even though the total line said just under 600 so i dont know what the woman at the front desk was going to do with that extra 400. I was charged for 6 breakfast even though i did not have them and she tried to charge me one nights of accommodation that supposedly was not covered by lastminute.com who i booked with. Not acceptable. I will be contacting the hotel manager to make an oficial complaint. Be careful! who knows what they will try to charge you for if you are not paying attention.

Pros:
Decent Location - The distance from the historic city center is around 2 km, but once you reach the bridge that overlooks the historic city center you'll enjoy the view so much that you'll forget the walk till there!
Good Breakfast - the breakfast that is included with the stay is great. Try the omelets that are made to order. Good selection of hot and cold food.

I didn't find anything wrong with my stay at the hotel. The parking is paid for, so if you have a car enquire about the charges and availability at the reception if you can, before you arrive. There is ample space in the basement.

Overall, a good place to stay with family. The lobby is spacious, and the staff will help with any questions you have about visiting the city.
