“Nice boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

We didn't care much for Salzburg the city as a tourist but enjoyed our brief stay at the Auersperg and recommend the same highly. I will encapsulate as follows -

- We were a family of 4 (children 9,5) and payed Euro 245 inclusive of taxes and breakfast. Parking was Euro 12 extra.
- Rooms - we had a nice family room which was reasonably sized and was modern and newly done up with a nice cherry veneer everywhere. The room was on the top floor and hence we had a good view outside. It was also very well accessorized with a nice heritage floor fan, lamps and a beautiful desk.
- It had a DVD player and the hotel had a DVD collection which kept the kids busy with DVDS that they wanted to watch.
- Had 2 nice shower and bathroom areas with an excellent choice of toiletries.
- The breakfast was very nice - lots of fresh fruits, yogurt, jams, breads, cheeses and more, A very vast selection to chose from - all set up in nice cutlery - very away from the regular chain hotel set up. You also had a choice to sit indoors and eat or eat in the patio overlooking the garden.
- Its a 10 minute walk to the old city but away from any noise as its on a side road and not on the main road where there could be traffic noises.

Its a pity we didnt like the city of Salzburg as tourists but this is a nice hotel to stop by in when in Salzburg.

Lovely rooms , super helpful, friendly staff & fantastic breakfast , the best I have ever had .
Free sauna & steam rooms were most welcoming .
Bowls of free apples around the hotel a nice touch.
I would highly recommend this hotel .

My family and I stayed here between Christmas and New Year's for 2 nights. Hotel Auersperg is 10 minute walk to Old Town and most major sites in town.
The breakfast buffet was very nice and included a large selection of organic high-quality items. We had a family room with very nice decoration but it was not very comfortable for the four of us. Ann-Sophie at the reception was very polite and helpful. She is always ready and willing to help with whatever we needed.

After staying in over 7 hotels in Salzburg I can tell you that this one beats all others hands down. They have all the amenities you are looking for, with maintaing their charm and amazing service.

From an amazing mostly organic breakfast to blazing high speed wifi, to beautiful rooms and free bikes to borrow and free car park this is the hotel for you.

Within walking distance of the Linzer Gasse and old town and close to the highway out of Salzburg it is great for all purposes.

The roof top sauna and reading area is also very nice place to relax.

Room Tip: Stay in the Villa for the best rooms as they are more renovated

We were in Salzburg for the weekend and spent a night at this hotel. It was very pleasant. We were very well welcome by the front desk person, our room was clean, quiet, comfortable and bright. We had a good sleep after spending the day walking around the city.

Breakfast is included in the price and it is a nice buffet.

Do not miss the sauna and steam bath in the upper floor. Very well set with lounge chairs where you can relax before or after the sauna. Nice views from the upper floor and a terrace that I suppose will be very nice in the summer.

Great!

We had a shockingly terrible experience with a front desk staff member. We asked her to book dinner at a restaurant. She said that the restaurant was closed and booked another restaurant for us. After some brief online research we realized that the restaurant she recommended had received horrible reviews. We called back within 5 minutes and requested nicely that she cancel that reservation for us, as we could not do so ourselves. Her response was that of utter disgust. She scoffed, "The restaurant won't be happy and I don't like to cancel reservations."

Baffled that we were paying almost US$300 a night to be treated like dirt, we went downstairs to talk to her in person. We specified that her mistake was telling us that she did not like to cancel reservations and hesitating to cancel the reservation that we had not chosen. We further explained that while she is of course entitled to her opinion, it is not necessary for her to convey that to a paying guest, because it is rude and unseemly. Her emotional response was thinly veiled; her eyes rolled back and she finally blamed it on us being American. This cop-out argument ended shortly as the phone rang and she decided to answer it while we were talking to her. The entire time, there was nary a mention of "sorry."

The lack of service and courtesy extends to the kitchen. On the first and second mornings, they offered cut grapefruit. On our third and final morning, we realized that there was no grapefruit out and we asked if we could have some grapefruit. The waitress's response was, "If we have any in the back," as if she were doing her paying guests a massive favor by scouring the kitchen for fruit that they had been offering every morning we were there.

We have both traveled extensively and one of us has actually lived in Italy. We have never experienced this level of rudeness anywhere else in the world. We also stayed in other places around Austria and did not experience such rude behavior.

If you are in Salzburg, take your money elsewhere. The rooms are on the lower end of the four-star scale and certainly not nice enough to redeem any potential rudeness you might face. Also, the wi-fi is very shoddy and you are lucky to get more than five minutes of continuous use at any given time.
