“Ideal choice for a long weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014 via mobile

Everything about the hotel was excellent, particularly the location and the staff who were extremely friendly and helpful. The only negative point was the fact that the hotel doesnt have its own bar which is a shame when returning at the end of the evening and being unable to get a night cap.

As mentioned before by many reviewers this hotel is in a fabulous location. Turn either left or right out of the hotel and you are amongst all of the history. The hotel was very clean and the staff were always friendly and very helpful. Our room on the fifth floor had a view of the fortress.
The room had everything you needed, great bed and clean crisp sheets. Bathroom not overly large but it did the job. Be aware they have soap dispensers on the wall( which I hate) but did provide small tablets of soap.
The restaurant is within the hotel but not owned by the hotel, so you cannot charge the bill to your room. Not a problem but best be warned. Excellent meal and wine.
Breakfast was very good with scrambled eggs that were the best I have had, very soft and creamy, also very friendly breakfast staff.
This hotel is a gem and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

Room Tip: Room 507 is front facing with a view of the narrow streets and the fortress on the hill. Quite nois...

The hotel is located in the heart of Salzburg's old town and a perfect base for exploring the city. We did not have a car so it was very nice to just walk out the door of the hotel and be in the heart of the city. The hotel has a warm atmosphere and an extremely friendly and welcoming staff!

The room was large (see attached photo), clean and comfortable with a very nice and spacious bathroom. The breakfast room was very pleasant and there was a good selection of cold and hot foods.

The WiFi is free, but uses a clunky password scheme that was annoying to repeatedly log into – and you need one per device.

We were extremely pleased with the generous hospitality from all the hotel team!

Regards
Svein-Magne Tunli from Norway

First, let me say this hotel is a gem. The best location possible, fabulous history, the staff is so helpful and nice, the breakfast is wonderful. I would stay here again anytime. We loved it. But, just to save some other traveler some heartache sometime (and isn't that what this site is for?) we stayed in room 203, a double room. The room looks out onto an air shaft type space, which didn't bother us because we didn't want street noise, and we loved the privacy of being able to open our windows all night. Unfortunately, the roof directly outside our window had a tin covering. Every drip of rain from the eaves sounded like a hammer on a nail. We had to close the windows to be able to sleep, which we hated. They were really busy and we didn't complain to the hotel staff, just decided to do the best we could. And we really liked the room otherwise. It was large, comfortable, and had everything we needed. So other than some nights with poor sleep, everything else about this hotel was perfect!!

Room Tip: Avoid room 203 in rainy weather!

We've stayed here on 3 separate trips and love this hotel. I know there are others that reviewers rave about but I like the proximity of the Hotel Elefant to the Getreidegasse (the main cobblestoned street in old town Salzburg). It's a family-run hotel with a tiny (have to to laugh) elevator that fits usually 2 people and 1.5 suitcases. It's literally around the corner and half a block from the Mozart birth house. We look forward to staying here again!

The first comment must be that the location could not be better; it is within walking distance of everything in the town and yet it is in a quiet street just off the main shopping thoroughfare in the Old Town without any significant traffic. The staff were really helpful, speaking very good English and being only too willing to offer suggestions of where to eat and how to get around. We had a room on the 4th floor (411). We paid a little above the basic price but had a really spacious area with a sofa and armchair, a small separate lobby and a spotless shower room. We found the bed comfortable - but we had walked around most of each day so could probably have slept anywhere! The buffet breakfast had everything that we wanted with fruit, cereals, a good selection of meats and cheese and a couple of hot items if you wanted them. The serving staff were pleasant and ensured that, as far as we could tell, everything was replenished as soon as it was nearly empty. Even on the Sunday when the breakfast was busy, their efficiency and good humour never wavered.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Elefant and endorse its high ranking. We have given it some thought but cannot come up with any valid criticism given its cost. We would very happily stay there again and recommend it to friends. We did not have a car so I have no idea about any issues with parking, so I would ask in advance if that might be an issue.

Room Tip: The fourth floor was fine and lifted us above any noise. We had the window open above the road and...

Location, staff, condition of hotel and breakfast all excellent. Good value. We had a quiet twin room but should have asked to change to a double as the beds were really narrow. (Room 506) . The charming receptionist the following morning apologised, but it was our fault really for not requesting a change of room to a double.

Despite this I highly recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Go for a double if you are a couple.
