“Clean, modest and inexpensive hotel near the city center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

We were staying for a conference at the medical university and wanted a place within walking distance. The Achat Plaza is close to cafes and restaurants and an easy walk across the bridge to the U. Rooms were clean and comfortable with more of a European style. Hotel wireless was ok in the lobby, but I think the thick walls make it harder to get a signal upstairs in the rooms. Staff was attentive and helpful and went out of their way to accommodate our group. This is a nice place to stay and see Salzburg without spending a lot.

This hotel is a few blocks from the main train station but far enough away in avoid the atmosphere which normally surrounds that type of area. We stayed 10 nights so we really got to know the staff - and, they are excellent. The room was very large, including an entry foyer, large closet area which has hanging and storage shelves, a safe, trouser press, and a nice little makeup desk with mirror and a lockable drawer. The bathroom has two sinks, the tub/shower has a pull out dryer line, and the toilet is in a completely separate room.

Our king bed was very comfortable, bed lights on each side were strong, and the room included a large easy chair, TV, and desk with wine glasses & opener, small fridge, and storage shelves. This was very helpful because across the street from hotel is a small mall which includes a very nice grocery store with many takeout options.

The included breakfast buffet was one of the best we have ever experienced in years of travel: eggs, sausage, cold meats and cheeses, many breads, cereals, fruits, and various vegetable dishes. The tea and coffee selection was extensive. Items were restocked quickly by a staff which seemed happy to be doing this service for you. The breakfast room is also a lovely restaurant in the evening and there was never a time when there was not plenty of seating: since we were there for 10 days we had lots of experience with the breakfast quality, service, and attendance at different times of the morning.

The top floor of the hotel has a large spa area with lounge areas, sauna, and exercise equipment. There is also a bar so that you can really relax after your visit. The hotel has another small bar with comfortable chairs in the main lobby area, and tours can be arranged for you by the staff.

This hotel is not a large luxury brand, but we found everything well run in a convenient part of Salzburg - easy to walk to all parts of the city - but, close enough to the train station so that we could easily take day trips to many beautiful parts of Austria.

We were happy to find that the hotel was near the main train station. We were able to walk our luggage to the hotel from the main train station. However, the hotel is not in the town center near the major tourist attractions, this may or may not be a good thing depending on your preference. It was easy to get into town however, as the bus stop was down the street. Bus #1 dropped you off right in the center of town. An unexpected bonus of this hotel was that it was across the street from a supermarket. We were able to buy water and other necessities without purchasing at high prices near tourist spots. There was Wi-Fi (though it was not always working during our stay) and AC that was able to get the room nice and cool. The room and bathrooms were very clean but the shower stall was very small. A bit cramped when washing up. Upon arrival the front desk staff (Male) was a bit unwelcoming. However, upon check out the front desk staff (female) was a lot friendlier. Overall, a solid hotel and would consider staying again.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights in August 2011. We enjoyed the stay very much. The room was relatively big and “homey” and very clean. The beds were comfortable and there was a/c. The bathroom was very nice with a big shower with a very good pressure. The breakfast was plentiful with all the things we wanted. And it even came with a “morning news”. The staff was helpful and nice and in the reception fresh water and fruit were available. We also had a massage at the top floor and it was really lovely. The hotel is situated about 15 minutes on foot to the center, but if you like walking as we do, it is a pleasant walk. It is also very close to the railway station. We would like to stay here again :))

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights recently. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk into the old town and there are buses close by. We had a car and therefore this hotel provided us the opportunity of parking at 4 euro per day. The rooms are quite comfortable with airconditioning and a fridge - with large bathroom - including bath! We enjoyed our stay though found the front desk person to be brusque and surly. There has been a change of staff so hopefully the new person will be far more accommodating and welcoming. We ate at the restaurant 1 night and found this quite good - its in the courtyard - though finding it took some effort given the lack of signage or direction from the staff. It is closed on Sunday - this is not advertised - but found a local hotel - about 5 minutes walk - quite good with an even better menu. We suggest buying the Salzburg card (at the local info centres) as it gets you into most sites and saves you considerably even if only using a few entries. The fortress on the hill is a must as is the place at Hellbrunn. Would recommend the hotel for comfort and location.

Just spent 2 nights at this hotel. Nice staff, nice location, no breakfast included...but nothing over the top. There must have been some water damage in the bathroom area of our room....a warped door and boards nailed down by the bathroom was what we found. Had to be very careful when stepping there. There was air conditioning in the room....but did not work well at all. Overall, it was an average stay in a beautiful city. Not one of our best choices.

this hotel is conveniently located , 5 min walk from train station and mirabell garden. after walking thu the length of the garden, cross the bridge and you are in the old town. hotel in salzburg in july is v expensive, esp those close to old town,. we pay 70 euro,so it is good value. there is a small shopping centre across the road where we bought some bread and cheese from the supermarket for our breakfast. this is the only hotel weve been during this trip with tea and coffee making facilities which is a big plus. weather was bad when we were there, raining all day, it is nice to be able to have coffee in our room. some small eateries nearby, nothing fancy, the chinese restaurant opposite c&a is good. room is good size, well renovated, clean and comfortable bed. they only have 1 receptionist but they are v friendly and helpful. wasnt able to explore salzburg fully because of the weather. it is useful to buy a 24 hr salzburg card and make the most of it during the period. salzburg is a small city, if u plan carefully, can take in most of the sight in 24 hr. it also offer discounts for tours and shows.
