Just a couple of miles outside Salzburg old town, is the palace, grounds and the main attraction, the garden containing dozens of fountains that the Archbishop who ruled here used to entertain and surprise his guests. The fountains can only be seen on a 35 minute guided tour and expect to get wet at least partially since water spits out of the most unexpected places on unsuspecting people. The elaborate marketplace scene with moving figures is amazing. The grotto is cool and the statuary is nice too but the main attraction is the surprise jets of water that the guide unleashes while doing his commentary. The only downside was our tour was in German and English and although 90% of the people were interested in the latter, the guide was more comfortable with the German commentary and we got a very abbreviated version in hard to understand English. If you use the Hop on Hop Off yellow bus service, it is easy to get to and back.
