“Great fun - take the kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Thankfully we visited these gardens on a hot day so the guided tour of the fountains became great fun especially with families. The guide knew exactly when to operate the fountains and made this part of the tour very entertaining. If you don't want to get wet then watch for the drier bits of ground. The guide was also sympathetic to anyone with cameras etc and hinted as to where to get out of the way.
Getting there is easy enough - there are bus stops outside (single adult fare was 4.80 Euros) straight from Salzburg centre. Anyone with a wheelchair can get round the fountains - there was at least one wheelchair user when we went.
There's a good cafe in the courtyard - the ice cream is recommended.
I'm definitely not a Sound of Music fan but lots of people went to the pavilion where some of it was filmed and seemed to return satisfied. The gardens are not spectacular away from the fountains but this place is worth a morning or afternoon especially if you've children with you.

“Fun and easy to get to”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

If you have extra time, make sure to purchase a Salzburg Card from any news stand in town before you go. It covers all the main attractions in Salzburg and transportation. Well worth it!!! After visiting the fountains where you will get wet unless you stay close to the guide - head back on the bus and head over to the Untersberg cable car and take in a view of the city. Entire trip takes about 3-4 hours

“Fountains are terrific”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

The castle is interesting, and worth seeing, but the fountains on the property of Hellbrun are terrific. Definitely worth the bus ride or drive down the road on the outskirts of Salzburg.

“The trick fountains are incredible”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

The castle is quite interesting, but, in mu opinion, overshadowed by both the story of the castle and the trick fountains. There is a guided tour of the fountains that are powered solely by water pressure-no pumps. I believe they were built in the late 1700's or early 18oo's.

“Water water every where, fun, fun and more fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

We purchased a SaltzBurg 24 hour card, this was very good as many attractions are then free on entry (cost of card at time of purchase was€26.00 each person 24 hours ). we went from centre of city by boat about 25 min's up river to Hellbrunn ,then short bus to site we went on an old London Red bus, you have to have ticket to get in so just showed our S.Card ,then timed entry every 15 mins, guide took us round site, what fun trick fountains water water every where, you have to go so will not say any more as is will spoil your trip...... his lasted about 20/30 mins children thought it was fun about 30 people in group from all around the world so got chatting to so many people it was interesting. grounds were very good plus you can go into palace. Could spend time just walking around ,when you go into palace they give you a hand held guide in your language . Used bus 25 to get back to city, just walk out of exit turn left up to main road then bus stop on your right.
