“A good deal in Salzburg”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

The hotel is about 10 minutes walking distance from the city center, actually all the sights are within easy reach.
The hotel has been renovated and the rooms are large with brand new furnishing. The bathroom was spotless and we had a good many towels to use. We had breakfast, which was the usual fare, with hot items included as well. It was nothing outstanding, but of good quality. Interestingly they have a Tchibo coffee machine in operation which was excellent - really good quality coffee there.
They have a fitness room and a sauna, but you need to activate your room key to get in, which was somewhat odd.
All in all I can recommend the hotel. The staff was helpful and the few minor glitches we experienced they always tried to remedy immediately.

Salzburg was our second destination and we stayed here for 2 nights. We arrived via train and walked from the train station. Wasn't very close but we knew that. The male receptionist greeted us with a big smile, while the female receptionist ignored our existence. He told us about the rooms the city and how we should go around the city. the city center was very walk-able. The hotel dint have the best location but then you get what you pay for. On to the rooms, the rooms were fine but you could get a drastically better rooms for 10 - 20 more euros. The economy rooms don't have double beds they only have twins :(. All in all this is an average hotel with average rooms unlike accor and mercure hotels. The only saving grace was the guy at the reception. Helpful and happy.

Room Tip: All beds are twin keep in mind!!

An unusual opportunity this, staying at the Mercure City Centre hotel about a quarter a mile away and then a week later at the Mercure Central. It may be there are differences which account for the two distinct experiences and one would not wish to be unfair to Central. The room there was more modern in decor but sadly lacked storage space and is only suitable for an overnight stay. At City Centre there was plenty of storage but we were staying a week so perhaps we got an appropriate room - who knows? The restaurant experience at Central was a disaster - How can the wrong order be placed in front of one when you are the only person in the room? At City Centre they handled multiple orders from an assortment of customers without any problem whatsoever. Breakfast was superior at City Centre also. We checked out of both hotels on a Saturday, City Centre was seamless but Central was a near disaster; one person on the till and a line of people wishing to check out - I was in fear of missing my flight it took that long.
So, it might be comparing chalk with cheese but, for three different criteria, namely restaurant, front desk and room facilities, the City Centre in Bayerhamerstrasse beats this place on all counts.

This hotel is ideally situated to get to all the attraction Salzburg offers. Our bigested concern was the restaurant was closed for dinner on a cold and wet night. This proved a bonus as we found a local Austrian restaurant which had excellent Austrian food at a reasonable price. Offer than the restaurant being closed this is an excellent hotel.

We booked into this hotel (not the Salzburg City one), on a very wet evening, we groaned as we saw the two tour buses outside and thought we would be in for a long wait at check-in as we steered around the coach passengers in the foyer. We were welcomed with a big smile and greeting by the male receptionist who beckoned us forwards and said he would book us in before the big group of tourists. We were given an upgraded room as there were none at the back of the hotel which we thought might be quieter. The entrance foyer is modern, clean and bright. In fact the outside of the building might put you off but go inside and it's like a different world. We were on the top floor, facing the road in a very large and spotless room, it was fantastic! Yes, it was a bit noisy but we had aircon which kept the room cool at night so we didn't need to have the windows open. The bed was large and comfy. Bathroom spotless and well stocked. Breakfast WAS the best I've had anywhere. So much choice in breads, cold meats, cheeses, cereals, cooked food, etc, and the quality and presentation was excellent. The dining room was airy and light, well set out, and all the waiting on staff were friendly and helpful, hot and cold food was replenished quickly. The reception staff spoke excellent English and were always friendly and helpful, in was nice to start the day with a smile. It was only a short walk into the old town which wakened you up in the morning. I wouldn't say the hotel is in a very industrial area. It is opposite a garage showroom but traffic was light especially as it is a main street, infact it is quieter than the small town I live in. The weather was awful but the hotel experience made up for it. We would not hesitate to book in here again and will look for more of this chain in other countries. A truly brilliant find!!

It surprised me how I much I enjoyed my stay in this hotel. The male receptionist spoke excellent English and helped with a variety of services including, arranging tours and providing maps for us. He also always greeted us as we walked through the lobby which was excellent. The two female receptionists also were very friendly and helped book a taxi and even offered to carry our bags to the car.

The room was adequate in size, clean and had all the 'needed' utilities. The breakfast was very diverse and was regularly replenished and checked upon by the staff. I did find the staff in the breakfast room less friendly, more stern and serious; although they were clearly under a lot of pressure as the hotel was very busy.

The location is OK. It is a good 10-15 walk into the Old Town and is quite easily navigable once you initially know where you are going.

The hotel in summary is very good, the staff are generally very friendly and helpful and it provided us with a nice stay.

I booked Mercure Salzburg Central through Gate 1 Travel and was pleased with the value I got booking through them. The staff at the front desk are especially helpful and they speak English. They were glad to help us plan our sightseeing. The room was very modern and spacious. The breakfast that was included was GREAT! I recommend booking through GATE 1 Travel, because they got me a much better rate than I could have secured booking on my own.
