“Great location, worse service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2009

Great location directly in the city centre, almost without the competition. Our double bed room was nice, clean, big enough for two adults and one small kid. So far so good, but I have to say that I was really disapointed by the staff support and friendlines. Altought I booked baby cot in advance nothing was prepared, even it took several hours to assamble it (at the end my wife had to do that). Nobody offered us help with lugage altought we had to several times to car to bring our stuff.... What a shame for such a nice hotel in centre. Parking is outside from the hotel for 26euro per day. Rooms have external air condition to keep the rooms cool.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2009

We stayed in Radisson for 4 nights and had supposedly 2 family rooms booked as we were 2 couples with 3 kids and a baby. Firstly let me say the location is very good everything is right at the doorstep and we walked to all attractions. But it ends there.

The hotel is decor shabby and outdated. There are a lot of dirty musty carpets and wall hangings which looked very moth eaten and filthy.
We were given one suite with two single beds and a sofa bed and one normal double room with one double bed and a single bed in which we could not accomodate our kids. The baby cot they said was just a bassinet too small for larger babies. So we had to share rooms to accomodate our kids.
One of the rooms had a perpetual bad smell in the bathroom and the other room had a partially blocked sink and a non- functioning airconditioner. By the way the air conditioning is not proper it is those small portable AC's in which the duct has to be put out of the window. If we opened the window the noise from the cafe and bars and the garbage truck early morning as well as the rowdy revellers in the night kept us awake. If we closed the windows the heat would not let us sleep. On day three when we complained to the reception in the wee hours of morning that our AC was out of order she said "why dont you open your window" . It was only on the last night after we asked to see the manager that our AC was replaced and we slept 1 out of 4 nights there.

The bathroom smell was overpowering but we were told that we had to live with it as there were no other rooms availaible.
The room service was pathetic, even after the room was serviced they did not remove the dirty dishes from the previous night and left it decorated in the lobby or in the room itself till we called up and asked them to take them away. The choice on the room service is very sad. Breakfast cost 22 euros per head and was not worth it . After the first day we just ate out. The lobby is dark and depressing.

I would not recommend this hotel to people who like to live in a nice hotel on their vacation. It is cheaper than other 5 stars but it is not worth its 5 star status . only go if discomfort doesn't matter and you would like a good location.

My partner and myself booked this hotel for 4 nights in the first week of June. We arrived at the airport and easily found a taxi and within 10 minutes were outside the hotel door. Its next to the river and right in the centre of the old city. In terms of location I don't believe you could do better; its honestly right in the middle of everything!

Upon arriving the reception staff were very friendly, helpful and could speak English fluently. We were advised we had been upgraded for free (didn't ask why!) and were handed the key.

Our room was on the top (5th) floor and was lovely. Two arm chairs, desk, mini bar, LCD TV, double bed, wardrobe, chest of draws. The bathroom was massive - large bath, 2 sinks, gold taps, marble floor etc :) The room also included bathrobes, hair-dryer, umberella, safe, soaps & shampoo etc, local magazine and lots more nice little touches. There was also a door leading to a terrace on the roof. While this didn't have an amazing view you could see the mountain tops and it was perfect for sitting out on in an evening.

Whatever we needed - taxi bookings, tour bookings, general information, anything - the staff were so helpful and very efficient and I honestly can't think how it could have been bettered.

Neither of us dined in the restaurant, but the bar has a fantastic selection of drinks and although small is nice for a posh cocktail while planning what attraction to visit next!

In conclusion I don't think you could regret staying here - perfect location, perfect staff, clean and spacious room, and a lovely interesting building.

Salzburg is a magical area, and the Radisson is a nice addition to the city. The hotel is in a building that dates back to the 1300's, and I understand that it was also used as an inn at certain times during the centuries. You cannot beat this location. On one side, you have the river and are close to the Mozart footbridge. On the other side, you have the Judengasse, which turns into the Geitredegasse. Our room overlooked the Judengasse. We were on the third floor. It's a very short walk to everywhere in the Old Town--by this I mean, 15 minutes' walk at the most for any of the tourist spots. The room we had was decorated with antiques and had cushy duvets. The bathroom was quite large and well appointed. We had big windows that we had open the entire time we were there. It was unusual, but it was about 75-78F while we were there, whereas the week before we arrived they had about 4" of snow. We opened the outer windows and then the inner windows and let the fresh air in. It was great. It also let some noise in from passersby and cafe diners at night, but to be honest, that just added to the atmosphere of the place. I could have done without the street cleaner noise in the early a.m., but if we had both sets of windows closed, I'm sure we wouldn't have heard anything. The staff at the Front Desk was wonderful and catered to our every need and question. We did not use the hotel restaurant, as there are so many other places to choose from in the Old Town. There are so many great things to do in the city and the area. Take the elevator up to the Museum of Modern Art for a great view of the city. There is also a restaurant and bar there. We went up around 7pm and took some photos before dark. Then we went and had a few drinks and waited for the sky to darken so we could take some shots of the city at night. Be sure to visit the fortress for more great views. We took the Sound of Music tour, which I thought my boyfriend would think was hokey, but he said he truly enjoyed it, and we laughed and sang along with the others in our tour bus. Mondsee is a lovely little town--you will like it there. Be sure to go have an apple strudel at Cafe Braun during your brief stop on the tour. The sights of St. Gilgen and the other lake towns also make this tour a plus. We also went on the Salt Mines and Bavarian Mountains tour. The trip to the Salt Mines was a hoot. I'll never forget the sounds of the little kids in our group who were afraid to go down the first slide. You could hear their little screams all the way down the chute. At the end of the chute they started to laugh. For their first trip down, I guess it was just a fear of the unknown, because before the next slide, the kids were already giggling in anticipation. The drive from the salt mines in Hallein to Berchtesgaden is a jaw droppingly beautiful ride. Berchtesgaden is larger than I expected. Our stop there was only for a half hour, but we managed to scope out a bakery and had a quick pastry and cappucino. Also, if the weather is clear, take the #25 city bus to Untersberg, and take the cable car up the mountain. The bus station is about 100 yds. from the front of the hotel, and it costs 2 euros per person each way. The bus will take you right to the base of the cable car station (the ride takes about a half hour). The views from the top are fabulous. Dress properly, and wear proper shoes. There was snow at the top when we went, and there are no real trails. It can be slushy and slippery. I actually saw someone there in beach flip flops--not kidding--trying to manage their way through six inches or more of snow. Where there's a will, there's a way, I guess.
Have a great trip!

This is the perfect spot for a short vacation in Salzburg. Ideal location in the old town, many restaurants nearby. Old building, all rooms have antique furniture. You get the impression of living in the baroque era. Only disadvantage is the missing parking area but hotel offers valet parking.

Loved this hotel.

We stayed here for a couple of nights prior to our Wedding. It was lovely. Staff were so friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good with lots of choice. The location was excellent.

Unfortunately we discovered on our first night that there was a niteclub below the hotel (not belonging to) which created a lot of noise but in fairness to the hotel, when we rang down to the night porter, they gave us a room at the farther end of the hotel which turned out to be a suite. We moved right then in the middle of the night and were aloud to move our things the following day. We found this most helpful.

So I would definately reccommend this hotel to anyone. It is lovely quaint old style and in a brilliant location
