“Wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

We stayed here to celebrate a birthday and it really did not disappoint. As I have a Club Carlson Gold card we were upgraded from a standard room to a suite. It was magnificent with a large bedroom, sitting room, bathroom, separate toilet and hallway, all in the traditional Austrian style. The bed was really comfortable and the room was nice and high so there was no noise from the street. There were lovely toiletries in the bathroom and there was a large bath as well as a shower. The sitting room was nice and had a Nespresso coffee machine. Location-wise, this hotel is excellent as it really is in the Altstadt as per its name and easy walking distance from all the main sights in the city centre. One small niggle was that we had to walk through a courtyard from where our room was to get to the hotel lobby, but this is understandable given the age of the buildings. Highly recommended!

We selected this hotel as my spouse is a Carlson member and there is no hilton, here....so were not very sure of the place. Moreover, it was raining when we landed from Vienna and the taxi dropped us on the road onto a steep flight of stairs.....my husband had to walk up and call the bell boy to help us with the baggage. We were allotted an attic room which we found a little spooky..up and down some steps.....and displeased about the same...but in a second....smart and efficient Sabrina allotted us 402 (i think).....an excellent suite.

Nice bedroom, (no king bed though), double sink bath, a large sitting room..the window of which opened to Mozart's birth place.....I stood at the window..seeing/ gazing at Mozart's haus window. There were double wardrobes, too.

It was beautiful to get upto the chimes of the surrounding Dom and so many churches and opening the bedroom window, I could see the hills and imagined Maria running up there. We didnt have breakfast in our package but that is no bother..cos the back door opens into so many cafes and there are at least 2-3 spars just a stone's throw away.

The house -keeping does an excellent job and very obliging. I think Moreno(Albanian bell boy) does an excellent job..carrying the baggage up and down with a sweet smile..though the other man....will frown even in an encounter!

If not for residing here...I would have never experienced " the real old city"....impossible. This hotel is so conveniently placed in the heart of the old city with everything around...the cafes, shopping, churches, river, university, local market.....what more could one ask for?

The front office staff is so helpful, efficient and kind. Kristina did my tickets to Innsbruck and SOM tour without charging an extra penny. She and Sabrina were excellent. Desire too was kind with any query. Gentleman Altaf on the night shift too will help with whatever itenaries you may have in mind...soft spoken but efficient and kind. For those who love partying...there is an excellent Irish Pub below and Maredo restaurant...a good place to eat...just to the right from the back door.
If you have baggage, pl request the cabbie to take you to the back door.
Stay here to experience the Real Salzburg.

Room Tip: 402 was excellent...like an apartment.

Convenient location - just take the bus from the Bahnhoff and get off at the Rathous next to the river, walk just a block to the hotel. Everything in the old city is just at the other side of the hotel. Large, comfortable room with sitting area and huge bathroom.

They coordinated the Sound of Music tour and they picked us up from the hotel, then it was an easy bus ride back from Mirabel Gardens.

It was really hot this summer in Salzburg, so our only complaint was that there was no air conditioning - however, we found that our other hotels in Europe also didn't have AC. At least they provided a fan.

Breakfast was really expensive at the hotel, but there's a cafe just next door.

I really struggled determining where to stay in Salzburg so when we arrived at this hotel and were assigned room #314, we were pleasantly surprised ! It was a large bedroom with a separate small'ish sitting room, which is perfect for a couple like us who go to sleep at different times ! The bathroom was large and very comfortable for two. The location is ideal - right in the old town and a very easy walk across the bridge to the newer part of town. Everything was very accessible.

Reviewing the hotels in Salzburg, hardly (if any) come with breakfast. The buffet here is 26 Euro, which is pretty standard (the same at our hotel in Venice a few days later). However, this location is perfect to walk to a small café for a much more reasonable breakfast. Also, there is a market very close to the hotel where we picked up yoghurt, cereal, fruit etc and we made our own breakfast in the room each day. There is a small fridge where you can fit some food.

We were in Salzburg just after the flooding and saw no evidence whatsoever of it.

Room Tip: We were in room #314, overlooking the river and fortress. It was a beautiful view and very quiet.

We booked three days in the Radisson Blu Hotel Altstadt for the weekend 24th to 26th May. On arrival they stated we had been upgraded and gave us room 406. The room and the location of the hotel were good, until we returned to the room at 10 pm on Saturday night and there was a extremely loud buzzing noise vibrating from the wall behind the bed. My husband rang reception to report this but we received no response to our call. He then visited reception where they stated this was an ongoing problem with this room as when the bar downstairs switched on the air-conditioning the pipe and grill ran up through the wall of the rooms. They offered us a different room 215, but on visiting this room above the bar, we felt we were in the disco with the music vibrating loudly round the room. The next morning the receptionist assured us this would definitely not happen the next night - it did - a member of staff told us this occurred all the time and not to believe what the receptionists told us, they simply said this to shut guests up and they would also say there was no managers in the hotel. In fact this was the case, for our inconvenience (no sleep for three nights) the receptionist stated there was no managers in while the Wednesday but they would be in touch with us - and offered us a free cup of coffee for our unfortunate experience. Unsurprisingly they have never been in touch.

Room Tip: dont stay here!!!!!!!!!!!

It's executive rooms are very large and restaurant has great view. Location is perfect if you want to stay in the heart of Salzberg. I would certainly recommend it. The breakfast was good. Yes I did agree with few reviews that no one was ever there in the bar to serve drinks. There were no tea coffee maker in the room which was pity. Staff was warm and accommodating. There were no porters hence we had to pick up out luggage on check out. Those were few things that stood out of a good experience. Rest was fine.

Incredibly disappointing. If you stay here avoid room 307 like the plague. We stayed for two nights and the first night was a disaster. This is a five star hotel, however our experience was far from that level. Our double room was grubby, one entire wall had incredibly bad scuff marks on it that appeared to have built up over time, the previous occupiers had obviously been shopping as the size sticker from their clothes was stuck to the wall beside the mirror, large as life. There was one hole in the wall that should have been a proper socket as there were wires coming out of it but without any socket cover. Another socket was too small for the hole in the wall behind it. We have the photographic evidence. One light bulb was blown already and the lockers and the bedhead were scratched. No wifi available in the room despite it supposedly being available throughout the entire hotel. Can handle all that but the worst thing was that the floor sloped, hence the bed sloped too, it was incredibly uncomfortable to sleep on as you naturally kept rolling towards the floor and I woke up the next morning with pains in my neck, shoulder and back. The porter who changed the light bulb indicated this was not the first time complaints had been received about this room. They could not move us that night as they were full, however the next day we were given a different room, slightly bigger. Incredibly disappointing experience of a five star hotel, especially considering these basic things should have been spotted by house keeping supervisor and are east to resolve - basically paint the wall, balance the bed. Will not be staying here again.

Room Tip: Room 306 is a good size with a view over the river
