“I expected a little more”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

Our guide suggested that we try the traditional Sacher cafe in the famour Sacher hotel. Sacher hotel in Vienna & Salzburg are very famous for offering a 5* service. Some of the walls are covered with photos of famous people who have stayed in this hotel. The cafe is traditional with attractive furniture and most of the clientele seemed middle class people enjoying their shampagne etc.
We had to wait 5 minutes before a waitress attended but once we ordered our drinks arrived quite quickly. I did not like the small glass mug where my chocolate was served, it was too small and the choc cake was very rich but this is a matter of tase. Overall it was like every other nice cafe.

“A must, maybe a bit overrated but still a must”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012 via mobile

Nice early 900s atmosphere, friendly and professional staff, good cappuccino and original sachertorte.
The sachertorte is however similar to the others, less expensive ones around the city.

But you have to go once!

“Well worth a visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

A must do - the home of the Sachertorte. When you walk into the cafe itself, it's as though you've walked into the 1940's era, decor and all - chandeliers, pink table cloths, mahogany furniture etc! In the front part of the menu's is the fascinating history of the Sacher family and how the cake came to be! The ambience is lovely, the staff are very welcoming and friendly. Make sure this is on your to-do list!

“Recommend highly if you're staying here.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

My wife and I walked in from a day at Eagles Nest, disheveled. We didn't have a reservation. They didn't know we were staying at the hotel. We were pretty worn out and feeling, well, the Bavarian food is rich. When we ordered only entrees, the staff, ratio one staff for every two diners, thought we were there for the exquisite food and service but saving on expenses. They brought us a complimentary soup course and generous portions of the most delicious regional meals.
We like this place on a number of levels.
