“Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

The hotel is a walk from the train station and a very short walk to the gorgeous Mirabel gardens. If you continue walking another 5-10 minutes you are in the old town. It's also a short walk to the bus tour pick up point.

I'm a priority clubs reward member and they treated me like one which was nice. Spacious room. No view to speak of but no regrets with this booking. Great breakfast.

Stayed for one night during the summer with our three kids. The decor is a little dated but the hotel was very nice. We had a quick lunch in the traditional Austrian restaurant in the basement called the PitterKeller. We were there at an off hour and in a rush due to a last minute booking of the Sound of Music Tour with Panorama Tours (I was a little apprehensive that it might be corny but the tour and the scenery are a must). The staff quickly served us and the food was very good. The indoor pool, also in the basement, is small but adequate for the kids. The hotel is near the lovely Mirabel Gardens which we used to cut through on our way to the old town a little further away across the river. If you don't like walking to and from the old town this hotel may not be for you but we and the kids enjoyed the walks. The breakfast buffet, which was included with our room, was one of the best we have had anywhere.

Dear Spyridon,
it is wonderful to read that you and your family enjoyed your stay and that you loved the breakfast! Yes indeed the Hotel is dated...it is built in 1864 !! =D But I understan what you mean. we will next year move into the next generationand turn our "old lady" into a pretty old one with some modern touch. We hope that this will add even more value for families like you as we also intend to built more family rooms and bring the breakfast to a brand new roof top Restaurant!!
So please come back in 4th Q next year when everything will be ready. Thank you for your comments and time. Best regards, MArtin Gissel - General Manager

This hotel is an easy walk from the train station on the north side of the river. Also an easy walk across the river to the old town and major sites. I was upgraded to a family room and was given free wifi as a priority club member. Hotel room was spacious and clean - decor slightly dated. friendly and helpful staff.

I stayed here for 2 nights on a Salzburg+Vienna Convention in October.

The hotel is very deceptive! It looks from the outside and from the inside front-office and resturant to be 'just another 4/5* Crowne Plaza hotel. BUT look a little deeper and you find a range of hidden gems; ranging from genuine Old-Austrian Beer and Food restaurants with original furnishings and ornaments - makes you feel in a bygone age! - to traditional Austrian dishes presented with equally-traditional excellent service-manners.

The hotel is located in a strategic location just short walking distance from elegant shops and traditional sites e.g. Old Palaces and the enchanting Hoensalzburg Fortress/Castle. The city is pure romantic elegance and laced with equally-elegant shops and tea-shops/cafes...the cakes and pastries are to-die-for!

This hotel is ideally positioned and served for the business or artistic traveller who can appreciate and enjoy the sophistication and welcoming of Salzburg with it's grand history, musical traditions, and welcoming peoples.

It was a wrench to leave both the hotel and the City in which it sits.

We were most impressed with this hotel. Within easy walking distance of the main sites in Salzburg; comfy rooms with King Size bed; nice indoor pool, sauna, and exercise room; incredibly courteous and helpful staff at front desk. One block walk to bus tours (yet the staff at hotel arranged for us to be picked up at hotel). Between the great staff at front desk, comfortable room, and convenient location--can't imagine staying anywhere else when we return to Salzburg!!

This hotel is very tired, and I thought a bit far from the old town, although it was very near the Mirabel Gardens. However, we went to Salzburg to see Salzburg, not the inside of a hotel! And the staff was excellent. Although the desk clerks double as concierge, they did a lovely job.

Dear KimberlyWestmoreland,

tahnk you so much for your valuable feedback We are so happy that you enjoyed the Service Quality at the Crowne Plaza Salzburg The Pitter. Regarding the location we can not do anything but we think that it is a very convenient one because of the proximity to all the sights but also to the main station. But what we will definitely do is to renovate the Hotel next spring in order to attract more guests like you who like a more modern touch paired with the tradition of a 150 year old Hotel withj plenty of tradtition and histories! Thank you again and we hope to welcome you again in Salzburg ! Warm regards, Martin Gissel - General Manager

Really not sure what hotel some of the reviewers who have given it bad reviews stayed at. They seem to be unfairly giving the hotel a bad rap. Unless we just happened to get one of the newer better rooms, I have no idea what hotel they are talking about? Knowing this, when I showed up I had low expectations of the Pitter. What a relief when we checked in and saw our room! I can honestly say now that I have absolutely no complaints about this hotel. It is first class from top to bottom. I am giving it a coveted 5 stars in every category.

This is easily the best hotel we stayed at in Europe. Large lobby area, several restaurants, the rooms are fairly large for European standards, with all the amenities.

THIS HOTEL IS ALL ABOUT RELAXATION! Gotta love that! The beds are very comfortable and the pillows fluffy. Lots of different shampoos and body lotions to tinker with, and even a small package with some sprays for helping you sleep. Pool and gym areas were also really nice. The pool is small but was the perfect temperature so although we only went one time, I really enjoyed it. I am not taking away stars for them having a small pool, because this is not a resort nor beach area, it's Europe and you are not going to be seeing many swimming pools at hotels, let alone gyms and spa's. Not at €100 a night. I can guarantee that. We thoroughly enjoyed our luxurious stay and would come back in a heartbeat! After tramping around Europe for a month walking and cycling mile after mile it was great to kick back and relax a bit at the hotel at night!

The location is pretty good, wish it was a bit closer to the old part of town but its not too far. Breakfast was excellent with lots of selections.

I recieved a very good price for this hotel. €112 a night including breakfast, for this quality of a hotel in Europe is unbeatable! I thoroughly researched all the hotels in each area we stayed at for months looking for the best deal as far as price vs quality of hotel and this was the one!
Bonus was all the extra points incentive I recieved from IHG rewards program for staying at another brand over the weekend!

What a way to end our 1 month tour of Europe, in high style and class and total comfort at the Pitter!

SALZBURG AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS ARE SOME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CITIES AND TOWNS IN ALL OF EUROPE WITHOUT A DOUBT. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR, SPLURGE A BIT AND STAY AT THE CROWNE PLAZA THE PITTER - YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
