“Great family hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

We didn't know what to expect when we booked a room here, and if the room would comfortably fit all 4 of us in the "family room," which is a suite. Turns out it was spacious and perfect for a family with two separate areas. Hotel was easily walkable to key locations, including the old city (10 minutes at slow pace) and Mirabellgartens (2 minutes), and a very short taxi ride to the train station (5-10 minutes). The hotel was also clean with good service. We also very much enjoyed the restaurant in the lower level for dinner which was family friendly with an excellent selection. The breakfast was also convenient and good. Would definitely stay here again. Pretty good value also; just under 100 euros for all 4 of us.

My parents and myself recently spent 10 days on holiday in Salzburg staying at the Crowne Plaza which is ideally located between the railway station and Old Town with easy access to both the trolley bus and post bus services. If on foot, within 5 minutes one may enjoy the picturesque Mirabell Gardens and within 15 minutes one may be exploring the beauty of the heart of the Old Town. All of the hotel staff were friendly, courteous and provided excellent customer service, whether on Reception, in the Dining Room, in the Pitter Keller, on the housekeeping staff or at Management Level. The en suite bedrooms were well appointed, comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was of continental buffet style with every imaginable choice and could not be faulted. It was an absolute delight every morning to go down to breakfast being greeted and served by such charming staff, in a beautiful dinning room with excellent food. On a number of occasions we ate an early evening meal in The Pitter Keller which again provided a good choice of excellent food in convivial surrounds. The Pitter Keller has an excellent reputation with locals and if one is able to eat later in the evening it is sensible to book a table in advance. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Crowne Plaza Hotel to anyone wishing to visit Salzburg.

Room Tip: As my Dad has severe arthritic problems and difficulty with walking, I contacted the hotel by email...

the hotel is at central location and have easy acess to transportation. the rooms are large but the AC was not working properly..and it was abit hot in few nights. the service and staff attitude was the weakest point of this hotel..just pure lazy or under staffed; on cleaning bathroom i saw them using used towels to wipe the floor..rather than mopping it propperly. I n breaakfast time i saw the staff removing the top layer of table cloth and without rwmoving crumps of food,, he/she t coverd it with new cloth..so the next guest do not see it. i would expect it from 4 star hotel!!!

I have passed your comments to our Exec Housekeeper and the Chef de Service. The Salzburg Crowne Plaza was a fine property to stay at during a brief two days in Salzburg. While the hotel isn't in the heart of the tourism center, I was at least within a convenient walking distance to everywhere I wanted to be (5 minutes to the Mirabell Palace & Gardens or the Sound of Music Tour; 10 minutes to the Altstadt; 10 minutes to the train station). My air-conditioned room was spacious, inviting and comfortable with a very clean, well-appointed bathroom. (The retractable clothesline in the shower/tub was a nice touch, and helped me accomplish some in-room laundry!) WIFI access was free in the lobby (hour-increment login/passwords available the front desk) or at cost in your own room. I chose the former option, and never had a problem with connectivity. WIFI will also work while you take some time to unwind in the very classy hotel bar! You cannot go wrong at the Salzburg Crowne Plaza.

My wife, 2 adult daughters and husbands and I stayed here the first part of September, 2012.
Great hotel, staff and location.
Was very quiet and clean.
Had dinner and a few Austrian beers in the beer cellar.
Overall a great experience.

We spent 4 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very close to the main town and of course lots of historic and scenic places were nearby.
Staff very friendly, rooms very clean and made up each day with clean supplies.
On arrival our room was not ready despite asking specifically for an early booking. Despite this we spent an hour in the outdoor garden bar The Pitter, quenching our thirst with the local beers. Very pleasant.
We breakfasted every day and there was a good assortment of food there to eat. Staff were always happy and helpful. We did not dine there at night. However we did have a nightcap in the bar one night which, surprisingly, was very busy around midnight.
I'd stay there again.

Dear pollyH64,

thank you very much, that you took your time to give us and all travallers your valuable feedback. We are really sorry that we could not honor your request for an early check-in. We really try our best in this case, during high season it is sometimes really difficult as many guest check out at latest time possible.
We hope that you will come back to Salzburg and wish you all the best!

Checked in when we decided to arrive in Salzburg a day early and our original hotel could not accommodate us for the night. After giving Priority Club number, was immediately upgraded to a junior suite and given the option of late check out. While the décor is slightly dated, remember that this is a hotel in a HISTORICAL building. After staying in a few traditional European hotels, I am not offended by slightly dated décor and know not to expect much more than CNN in terms of TV channels in English. Our room was larger than the average European hotel room and had lots of windows which faced the street. The AC was a welcome relief as an unexpected heat wave was sweeping through Salzburg. We Americans are quite accustomed to air conditioning and you don’t realize how much you need it until you don’t have it. Bathroom with separate toilet was big by European standards and spotless.

The hotel is just blocks from the Mirabelle gardens, where you can join the Sound of Music Bike tour (highly recommend for fans of the movie). There is a nice bakery just around the corner (small, authentic and not even listed on TripAdvisor, I wish I could remember the name) where you can get croissants for about 1 Euro each. Also close are two of the top TripAdvisor restaurants for Salzburg – Heart of Joy (vegetarian) and Café Fingerlos. It is about a 15-20 minute walk to the Old Town, where we stayed for the rest of our visit. We had a bad experience at our next hotel, which makes me appreciate the Crowne Plaza even more.

I must note that we were travelling for fun, not business, and were dressed very casually (probably looked a little disheveled after a long drive from Venice) when we checked in. Even without a suit, we were treated like valued guests. The young man at the front desk was named Christian and his friendly attitude as we arrived very late and it was raining. I think that shows a lot about the level of service this hotel provides to everyone. We paid 110 EU for one night, which was a great value for the location.

The Crowne Plaza is great place to stay if you are looking for the comforts and service level of American hotels. Yet it’s location gives you access to authentic Salzburg.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are different and your experience can vary depending on what type of room you...

Dear ohno4,

wonderful feedback and a big thank you for that. I have pased your compliments regarding check in to Christian, who is a real asset for our team.
Regarding the breakfast opportunity I can only say that we think that we also have a great value for money here as we offer an including rate for only 12,50 Euro per person. If you have a breakfast in a nice Cafe liek the Fingerloos you will easily reach more then 12,50 per person when you order additional coffee specialties and egg dishes. These are all included in the breakfast buffet of the Crowne Plaza Salzburg. But I fully understand your choice if you like only a coffee and a croissant =D
Dear ohno4, thank you again for your time and please come back once! Warm regards, Martin Gissel - General Manager
