As many tourists I have seen my share of churches and Cathedrals throughout Europe. The Salzburg Cathedral is actually one of my favorites for several reasons. The interior is beautiful but not overly ornate. It has good lighting - not dark and depressing. It is not cluttered or crowded. It is clean!! Many of the other famous churches (Westminster Abbey, Notre Dame) in Europe are so ornate that it is impossible to keep them clean and dust free. It has an impressive baptismal font and I loved the arched hallway leading to the font. It is also the Cathedral in which Mozart was baptised. The downstairs crypt area was also beautiful and peaceful. Maybe we were fortunate that there were not hoardes of people there when we visited - serenely Beautiful.
