We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The rooms were spacious and clean, the service in the restaurant was excellent and the boot room had large separate lockers for each room complete with heated boot racks.
But for us, the best part was how well our toddler was treated during our stay. The Perner hotel isnt particularly advertised as a family hotel and indeed I dont think there were any other children staying there that week. However, the restaurant and cleaning staff all made a real effort to interact with our child and the hotel provides an excellent three course meal for children. Only once was our toddler given a 'typical' restaurant children's meal ie fish fingers and chips. At all other times, the food offered was basically the same as ours, with some subtle changes where necessary (to avoid alcohol, raw eggs etc) and it was even presented nicely too. This was great to see and our toddler really seemed to enjoy trying the wide variety of food offered. The staff were also very considerate in bringing our child's first course as soon as possible after we'd arrived each evening, so she didnt have to wait. Another positive was that the cot provided was a proper wooden cot and not a travel cot (very sturdy and no sagging mattress base).
The only negatives about the hotel were: no free afternoon cakes etc; no free internet access and having to pay to hire pool cues/balls etc. Also, smoking was unfortunately still allowed in the hotels cafe and bar.
