“A very special place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

This hotel gives you quiet authenticity with a fantastic staff team working hard behind the scenes to make sure every detail is in place. If you want glitz then this is not for you but that, perhaps, is its charm. We left after a week feeling relaxed and refreshed (although possibly a dress size larger than we had arrived, due to the ample and delicious food). The valley in which the hotel lies has a range of ski runs and an excellent ski school. The better skiers in our party had exhausted the runs and done lots of off piste skiing by the time we left, so we probably won't return. However, there were many families there who return to the hotel annually (sometimes more than once), having taught their children and now their grandchildren to ski there, and that possibility might draw us back some time in the future!

Room Tip: We stayed in the newer rooms and they seem to be more comfortable than those in the older part of th...

We've stayed here many times and have always loved it. Beautiful ski area, hills not too crowded. Staying at this hotel is like staying in a beautiful country estate. Population of the village is 300. It's at the end of the road going up the mountain. Great for any age, with or without children. And the food is wonderful. They raise their own cattle and sheep. So mostly organic. Great value.

Stayed at the Madrisa for an extended weekend with two friends. Very helpful and friendly staff. Great atmosphere and the dinners were excellent. Good location, and the heated room for skies and boots gave a really comfortable start of the day. Two things that can be improved:
- The bar have free smoking. Since the room is not separated from the rest of the hotel, the smell is quite strong in the halls. On busy nights we skipped the bar due to all the smoke.
- Wifi is available for a charge, but the signal was weak in our room. Free wifi in all areas is the way to go, in my opinion.
Besides this, I would warmly recommend the Madrisa!

Pleasant family hotel. All the staff are excellent and do their jobs with real pride. If
you stay in the old wing the rooms are a little dated and bathroom facilities are poor, however this is reflected in the price which is cheaper. Having stayed in both I'd recommend paying the extra and using the new part.

A wonderful family hotel. Great food. Great service. Nice friendly atmosphere. Excellent location. Good value for money. This was our first time but one of our party has been every year for over 20 years. We will be back next year.

My family and I stay at the Madrisa for 6 years now to spend our skiing holidays there. Still we can’t wait to return. It is a beautiful old hotel, next to the slopes, in the lovely skiing area Gargellen.
The atmosphere is friendly and quite. The food is absolutely delicious and service personal is very courteous. In the bar area is a cosy big fireplace where you can relax after a long day on the slopes.
The only point for criticism is the fitness centre because the equipment is aged. Additionally the wellness area could be improved as it only contains one sauna and one stem bath. The swimming pool is simple but the room is nice as it is very bright.

Very recommendable for people how want a beautiful holiday to relax!

This was our fourth time staying in the Madrisa, and once again it fulfilled all our expectations. A family run hotel (in all the meanings of that where the owner helps carry the bags) it is what an alpine skiing hotel should be like. Ski in and (virtually, if you are experienced) ski out. Probably the biggest log fire in the Alps, certainly the best food we have eaten in Austria, and it is quiet. Apparently there is a disco in the basement but we certainly had no idea that it was there.
Could not recommencd it higher.
